In general a contusion of bone is a mechanical injury usually resulting in some bleeding. Perhaps you injured your hip and that was the diagnosis. Elastic roller bandage. The sprained area is also the bruised area, right? You're not just wrapping a bruise just because...?
Definitely go with the elastic roller bandage. Think ACE wrap. If it's an ankle or wrist or whatever you can wrap it and the elastic will keep it tight enough to hold support. Gauze would be great for controlling bleeding on open wounds...triangular bandages are typically used to make slings and adhesive tape is not what you want.  (+ info)
