What do I do with a quadriceps contusion?

I recently bruised my quad after a fall and went to the doctor to see what was wrong. The doctor told me that I; "Probably just bruised it really bad" and told me to ice it and take ibuprofen. I'm a little concerned though since I cannot fully bend my knee and there is no visible discoloration which leads me to believe its intramuscular. Should I be doing anything to prevent a loss of range of motion? I'm walking with a noticeable limp and I'm concerned. Thanks.
----------

if it is still bad after about a week then get an MRI. but keep icing it and streching alot. and get a rolling pin and roll it over the tender area. it sounds stupid but it works. and if you can try to force yourself to walk normal, it might loosen itself up  (+ info)

How likely is it that fracture of the 5th and 6th ribs will cause heart failure?

The fracture occured when a person karate chopped a person in the chest. This can lead to cardiac contusion, but I suppose only if hit in a certain area. Will fracturing the 5th and 6th ribs cause significant bruising to the heart?
----------

T-5 and T-6 disruption in this region will effect general circulation, liver, stomach, and solar plexis. The shock of the blow to the ribs radiates to the spine and could bruise a large portion above and below these ribs to create possible breathing and heart problems.Could also effect the pancreas, spleen ,and duodenum.I am not a Doctor and know from a back injury on the job that the injury can effect above and below.Retire from this sport and enjoy your family.Good luck to you.  (+ info)

How do you know if you have an untreated orbital fracture below the eye?

Several years ago when I was in high school I got hit with a thrown baseball below the eye. I went to the doctor the next morning but they never took xrays, and said it was a contusion. However, ever since there's an on and off slight tightness below the eye after I touch it.

I went back to a couple of doctors the past couple of years, but they refused to take xrays.

Do you think it could be an untreated fracture?

go to the doctor and shove a needle up his A** if he doesnt give u an x- ray  (+ info)

What's the difference between heat stroke and heat exhaustion?

What are the symptoms of shock? What is the first aid for shock? How should i take care of a bruise (contusion) What is the proper way to stretch a muscle?
----------

heat stroke is more severe. a person going into heat stroke STOPS sweating after sweating horribly. The body shuts down and they normally pass out. Heat exhaustion they start to get really sweaty and tired. Both of these need to be treated fast with water, shade, and ice all around the body.
sign of shock:person feels nausous their skin gets cold and clamy and they will want to sleep
to treat take immediately to the hospital give them a blanket and if possible lift their legs 12 inches off ground. do not let them sleep.
bruises don't need special treatment. If they hurt enough or are severe enough use ice to numb it but don't use heat it causes more bleeding
to stretch a muscle: there is ballistic stretching where you just hold it for a little bit which you would do in a game
for not in a hurry hold in stretch for 3 sets of 30 seconds  (+ info)

What is the best way to care for a black eye?

I "iced" the contusion yesterday but today the swelling and discoloration is very intense. Any tips on management during the time the lesion is resolving?
----------

See a naturopathic physician (N.D.) or herbologist. These professionals know of certain plants that address this, which allopathic physicians (M.D.'s) have little if any knowledge of.  (+ info)

How long does a lower back injury completely heal?

I suffered a lower back contusion and my doctor said no broken bones. I still have a bump from swelling on my lower back and it's been already a month since the injury. The bump is not painful just annoying being there.
----------

There is no correct answer because of the unpredictable nature of back injuries. You may feel fine now, and be laid up a month from now. You must be young to spring back as fast as you have. I would say to take it easy because that bump is a trauma that has not healed, even if you feell better. Check with your doctor if the bump there much longer. In fact, you should ask him or her about the bump. Don't be tough, keep an eye on it.  (+ info)

How to tell when a meniscus tear is better?

I just got the results of my MRI and I was told that I had a contusion which accounted for the pain and a meniscus tear. They said I should wait a month and see if it gets better so I don't have an unnecessary surgery. But if the pain is only from the contusion, if that gets better how will I know if my meniscus tear is healed?
----------

When you tear your meniscus, you destabilize you knee a bit. Your knee will not feel as strong underneath you. You probably haven't noticed this though because the contusion is masking it. Once the contusion goes away and if your knee is completely stable (doesn't collapse or waver under you when you pivot on it), then you will know that the tear is healed.  (+ info)

How long will these injuries take to heal?

A car I was working on clobbered me after the emergency brake failed and the car rolled backwards quickly. I ended up with a contusion in my heel and torn muscles in my lower back.

And that sucks for me...I'm not one of those people who likes to take time from what I do to sit around and heal.

How long can I expect to be off my feet?
----------

Your back may never completely get better mine never did and it's been 15 years.  (+ info)
