Getting cryptosporidiosis from drinking tap water ?

I was wondering about the safety of the bottled water itself,since some tap water is believed to be drinkable in N.Y and few big cities etc...
Bottles for water are sterilized, and the water is filtered and treated to minimize the content of micro spores.
You will not get sick from bottled water, unless you fill the bottle yourself from a dirty pond ...  (+ info)

Regarding the recent contamination of Anglian water in and around the Northamptonshire area, has anyone actually been affected, or know anyone that has been by the cryptosporidium bug?
Why the hell has 'gangadharan_nair' posted all about the illness. I didn't ask for that. We've just had a contamination in Northamptonshire, and I've not heard of anyone who's got ill from it.

Cryptosporidiosis is infection with Cryptosporidium. The primary symptom is watery diarrhea, often with other signs of GI distress. Illness is typically self-limited in immunocompetent patients but can be persistent and severe in those with AIDS. Diagnosis is by identification of the organism or antigen in stool. Cryptosporidiosis is a diarrheal disease caused by microscopic parasites of the genus Cryptosporidium. Once an animal or person is infected, the parasite lives in the intestine and passes in the stool. The parasite is protected by an outer shell that allows it to survive outside the body for long periods of time and makes it very resistant to chlorine-based disinfectants. Both the disease and the parasite are commonly known as "Crypto."

Cryptosporidiosis was first recognized in 1907 by Edward Tyzzer in the gastric glands of asymptomatic laboratory mice. Since the 1970s, Cryptosporidiosis has been identified in the gastrointestinal or respiratory tract of most species of animals, including mammals, reptiles, birds and fish.

Cryptosporidiosis has now entered the forefront of public attention as it has become a lethal threat to immunosuppressed individuals. How long will it take me to get back to my 'normal' self?

After a 5 day hospital stay with Cryptosporidiosis and then followed by, a case of staph infection, that turned into mrsa? I was hospitalized late Janurary with Cryptosporidosis for 5 days, I had lost a lot of blood, but did not need any transfused. The Doctor said I had been very healthy before the attack, and that helped with the blood. Then about a week later I began treatment for a 'boil' that ended up a full blown case of MRSA. I am still healing from that. I get very upset, because I just can't seem to get back on my feet. I tire very easily and my body aches a lot. I eat and drink very healthy, take supplements and I am at a really good healthy weight. I just turned 49.
HELP, I am in the mist of moving a family of 5 into a new house, I only have 3.5 weeks left and I have so much work I need to do.
Are there any suggestions or is this normal to still be affected by what I had?

Wow, you really had a rough go of it there. You have really been thru a lot, and I understand your wish to feel better already. It seems you are doing everything right, and the only thing I would add is stress management (ha ha with all you have going out right now) Still, try and take at least a few minutes daily for a quiet time or meditation or prayer, whatever. And yes, it is normal to still feel not as strong as you were, and it may be some weeks more before you do. Please get as much help as you can with the move, rest as able, and remember to take it one day at a time.  (+ info)
