How can we protect ourselves and our animals at home from the dengue mosquito? What other things can we use or apply other than insect repel lotions and spraying insecticides?
----------

try putting some alcohol or vinegar the moment you were bitten by a mosquito.there's actually no way to get away from dengue mosquitoes. but you can do something to prevent them. keep your surroundings clean. don't let stock water on drums or pail open bec. mosquitoes with dengue will breed in them. also don't stock clothes anywhere. if your clothes are dry already better fold them and store them properly on drawers, this way you can avoid mosquitoes.  (+ info)

Is it possible that my body fought off the west Nile virus or dengue?

Well im not sure that i ever had these viruses but when i came back from El Salvador in 2006 from vacation i was feeling very sick with all the symptoms of dengue and west Nile. El Salvador is tropic meaning the disease can live there. Well i was sick for 3 weeks straight then all of a sudden all went away. Is it actually possible for your immune system to fight it off i haven't had any symptoms return in 2 years.
----------

The treatment for Dengue typically involves supportive care as it is a virus and no specific drug or vaccine is available to treat it. The symptoms associated with Dengue usually resolve in 1 to 2 weeks. If a person has a confirmed case of Dengue, they have a lifelong immunity from the specific virus which caused it. However, there are four closely related viruses that cause Dengue and the person would still be susceptible to the other three.

West Nile virus is similar regarding care and symptoms, however it is not clear the level of immunity a person develops. West Nile Virus, like Dengue, can also cause severe symptoms and complications that require hospitalization and may result in permanent neurological damage.
