I recently had an ovarian dermoid cyst removed. Do I really need to wait a full month before having sex?

The surgery was laprascopic - the tumor was about 4 cm. I feel mostly recovered and am not entirely sure why gentle, protected sex would be dangerous 2-3 weeks post-surgery.
I'm curious as to the reasoning BEHIND why I was told a month, as I've heard other doctors give a time frame of 2-3 weeks. Why is it that gentle, protected sex would be dangerous?
----------

Yeah, I don't know why doctors would know anything about healing times or anything! I mean, really.

How about increased blood flow, pressure, dilation, stress, trauma?

Give it a rest...a month isn't that long; ask any married guy.  (+ info)

I have never experienced these kind of cysts before but I have the link to a site that may help you find even more information. The site is at: http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health  (+ info)

Will the removal of my ovarian dermoid cyst make my weight or wasitline decrease?

I'm having surgery to remove a 21cm x 11cm (8'' x 5") dermoid cyst on my right ovary. To me this seems like a fairly large sized piece of mass they will be removing and my question was whether this procedure was going to make my weight or more importantly my waistline smaller ... I have a wedding dress which has already been fitted and was seeing if I needed to schedule another fitting.
----------

Good lord, woman! I got a dermoid at the age of 13 and dropped to the floor after school one day, throwing up and moaning. I had to get a Stat surgery to remove it, and it was only 9 cm. How your ovary hasn't burst is a miracle, and I wish you a good recovery!

You will most definitely lose weight. Not only is it likely the equivalent of giving birth to a baby (that cyst is huge!), but the recovery from surgery will be stressful on your body, and you won't be eating much while recovering. I remember returning to school and getting rumors about being anorexic.

I would schedule another fitting about 2 months after surgery. That was about when I could walk like a normal person. Best of luck!  (+ info)

I am 35yrs old & just had surgery to remove uterine fibroids. My right ovary was removed due to a dermoid cyst?

This operation resulted with the doctor having to remove my right ovary. I am not married & have no children. I would really like to have a child sometime soon. My question is what are my chances of becoming pregnant with one ovary especially at my age? Also would my menstral cycle change? How often would I ovulate?
----------

I would have to tell you, that its probably not good. You have half the chance with just one ovary. And you have also had surgery on your uterus. And you are 35. I would talk to your doctor about it. I'm not sure how often you ovulate or have a cycle. Write down all of your questions and take them to an OB GYN. They are the experts.

Im sure its not impossible, you could maybe consider IVF??  (+ info)

Ovarian Dermoid Cyst Removal -how long is recovery -any hints for any aspect of recovery?

I am sore and fatigued. I also lost my right ovary and am quite swollen in the belly area. I am 44. Any hints or info would be appreciated. Also, I am wondering why my left side is more sore if my right side had the work done on the inside. Also, do they use an adhesive underneath the staples on the incision? Thanks so much!!
----------

I had surgery to remove a cyst earlier this year, and I also lost an ovary. I was very sore the first 3-4 days, a little swollen, and pretty tired. If you had laparoscopic like me, it’s possible your left side hurts worse than your right because of the incisions. Each cut is different, and the one in my bellybutton happened to be the one that hurt me the most, especially when I moved. As you know, recovery is different for everyone, but the good news is that despite the pain of the first few days, I recovered much quicker than I expected. I’m 26 and the doctors said I was in good health, but I also think it helped that I spent the first few days after my surgery resting. I was back to work in 5 days, and after a week, I had weaned myself of the meds and was feeling so much better. My incisions were stitched shut and covered in what looked like clear superglue. The clear covering flaked off in a week or two, and the incisions healed in about 3-4 weeks. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!  (+ info)

I was diagnosed with a dermoid cyst in my left ovary anyone with experiance in this?

doctor said leave it alone unless I start having pain what should I do ive had it for about 1 year now last ultrasound I was told it was shrinking

Demoid cyst is basically a benign tumor so dont worry. But since it is a growing tumor, eventually will enlarge and most of discomfort and pain specially in abdomen and lower back will occur. Don't keep it for long because it may become severe and will cause you in emergency situation or it could be deadly once grown big and raptured your ovary. People who are PCOS (Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome) tends to develop ovarian cyst. Better yet have it surgically remove before its too late. Consult other Gynaecologist. Seems your doctor has no idea of your problem. There is no medication, drugs or therapy nor even the use of modern technology can cure or prevent you from getting rid of this. Have it removed and repair your ovary so you could still have a chance of conceiving a child if your planning to have one. Dermoid cyst is also one factor of infertility. Recurrence is minimal. By the way, I am male and my wife previously has the same problem with yours. She had it removed not only one but two (bilateral) and now we're so happy having 2 adorable kids.  (+ info)
