I heard that it was an undeveloped fetus, I have tried asking this in womens health and no one will answer and maybe one of you have experience when TTC, My doc said that these have hair and stuff. ill be devestated if this is an undeveloped fetus. i have been wanting to talk to my husband about having another baby, but not sure how to tell him and im going in for surgery to get this dermoid removed and afraid that i will never be able to have children.
this one is on my Right Ovary
----------

No, they are present from birth, and grow slowly over time. They can be found on the skin, in the skull, on the back as well as in the ovaries.  (+ info)

is it dangerous to get pregnant with a dermoid cyst?

If you are worried about it maybe you should have the Dr. take care of it before you TTC. Or else you will worry your whole PGcy.  (+ info)

Can somebody please suggest me where to seek best homeopathic treatment for Ovarian cyst(Dermoid).?

The correct solution is get it removed by laprascope,
to keep any such disease in ovary is not good, it may turn into cancer
it will give further hormonal imbalance etc.
homeopathic treatment in such condition is not effective and
don't waste time.  (+ info)

Dermoid Cyst Question?

I just had emergency surgery involving removal of a dermoid cyst that was cutting the circulation off the blood flow to my ovary and the cyst ended up being the size of a cantaloupe and weighing 4.5 lbs.. they took it out laproscopically. It's been 9 days since the surgery and they said not to have sex until 10 days, I'll wait the 10 days and longer, but I'm just wondering if the first time it will be painful?
----------

Per my wife, it was not painful........but what we found was that her dermoid cyst was keeping her from getting pregnant. After the 'healing' and she was allowed to be intimate, she was pregnant in no time - which was awesome for us as we'd been 'trying' for 4 years.

This is probably more info than you needed, but to let you know, NO it did not hurt - per my wife ;)  (+ info)

Anyone had a dermoid cyst during pregnancy - help!?

I am 13 weeks pregnant, and during two recent ultrasounds, the doctors have identified a dermoid cyst on my right ovary. They said it measures 4cm x 6cm. My family doctor isn't sure whether it will require surgery and, if so, whether it will have to be done while I'm pregnant, or if it can wait until after I deliver the baby. (They also found a simple cyst on my left ovary, but said that one is common and will likely disappear on its own.) I am waiting to get in to see a specialist now to find out more. Has anyone had a similar experience?
----------

i was told recently i had a cyst on my ovary they never said what type it was only that it could go on its own it is very common and I'm having another scan next week and i will have to go from there
but if yours does come to the point where you need to have it removed I'm sure it could be done safely
they will more likely just monitor you and see what happens before they do anything  (+ info)

Dermoid Cyst on ovary?

I have to get a dermoid cyst removed from my ovary. It is 11cm x 8cm. The doctor says I will need to get surgery and be in the hospital for 3-4 days and I am nervous. I know I have no choice but to get the surgery but I am worried about how safe this surgery is? My doctor also has to remove my left ovary as well.
----------

I had this same surgery last year. Where I am they do it with a scope and I only had 3 small scars. I went home the same day and didn't feel too bad, just the after affects from the anesthetic. You will be fine, they removed my cyst and didn't damage my ovary ( which didn't matter to me sense I am done having children) . Try not to worry too much. I have to be honest though, I was a wreck before I had mine done so I can sympathize. Good luck.  (+ info)

Dermoid, cyst and D&C questions?

I have a small cyst or dermoid. My doc says it has to be removed.Does anyone know that can a cyst like that rupture on its own or not?
And please let me know of a very good Ob/Gyne in Chicago, who has done this kind of surgeries.
Thanks
----------

Your doctor will refer you to an ob/gyn for this operation - cysts are reasonably common so most docs will be experienced.

My sister had a dermoid removed just recently - my understanding if they don't rupture because they are fairly solid, but removal is important because the cells in the cyst if left are more likely to become cancerous because they are not growing in the right place - her one had lots of hairs in it (ewww-gross, I know!)

All her kids insisted on seeing the "hairy toothy thing" as they called it once it was removed so the doctor bought it up to her in a bottle!  (+ info)

I was diagnosed with two dermoid cysts inside my ovaries, what is the outcome of the surgery?

I am 20 years old, the cyst in my right ovary is much larger than the one in my left ovary, my doctor sch a surgery in 3 weeks. She said she is going to do everything she can to save my ovaries. I want to have kids, and I'm not sure what the outcome will be. If anyone has any information on this it would be greatly appreciated.
----------

I hope your doctor would be able to save some ovarian tissue - ovarian cells can grow and compensate for future reproduction - more about dermoid cysts - see below  (+ info)

Dermoid cyst? Someone help! Any advice?

Hi. I have recently being diagnosed with a dermoid cyst but the sonographer said he isn't too sure and that it could be endometriosis as my mum had it. My cyst is only 2cm on my left ovary. Has anyone had a dermoid before? If so should I get it removed? How serious is this?

Any advice appreciated
----------

Dermoid cysts may occur at any age but the prime age of detection is in the childbearing years. The average age is 30. Up to 15% of women with ovarian teratomas have them in both ovaries. Dermoid cysts can range in size from a centimeter (less than a half inch) up to 45 cm (about 17 inches) in diameter.

These cysts can cause the ovary to twist (torsion) and imperil its blood supply. The larger the dermoid cyst, the greater the risk of rupture with spillage of the greasy contents which can create problems with adhesions, pain etc. Although the large majority (about 98%) of these tumors are benign, the remaining fraction (about 2%) becomes cancerous (malignant).
