Composite bonding and fixed retainer?

I want to have composite bonding to close a diastema between my two front teeth and I'm wondering if the dentist will apply a fixed retainer to the back of the teeth so that the gap will not re-appear. I really don't want to wear braces because my teeth are fine except the space.Has anyone had this done? If so, did your dentist put anything on the back of your teeth to keep the space from returning? How was the experience? Thanks
----------

Cosmetic bonding to close a diastema is very commonly done. As long as the frenum (gum between the teeth) isn't too thick or webbed, the space should stay closed. If the dentist feels that the space may reopen, then they would likely bond a wire behind the teeth, like a retainer. Each case needs to be assessed individually.  (+ info)

what happens if i DO get braces??

i have a 4mm size diastema(gap) and my tooth right next to my bottom left tooth is crooked and looks like it's about to come out!!!(i'm only 13) WILL IT GET WORSE???- my left lateral incisor is the one that's crooked and my two upper front teeth has a big 4mm gap between it.
i mean how long will it be until i see results stuff like that?
----------

Omg get braces right away....and as you say u have gaps btw teeth so u prolly wont need to get any teeth taken out...

Speaking with experience > you should normally see results in 3-4 months

I've had em for 9 months and my teeth are nearly perfect! My teeth were pretty bad...not crooked ...but overlapping and stuff
And the pain is definetly worth it! Trust me...

Seriously get them!  (+ info)

gap in my front teeth?

i have a natural gap (diastema) in my 2 front teeth, most people say its cute but i hate it and always have iam nw in my mid 20s and have to get rid. i believe tht i can get veneers or braces, has anyone else had this prob fixed and how much did it cost and were the results good
----------

I have that too and I got braces today...

my friend had it, and she had braces and now her teeth are PERFECT.

I hated my gaps too, but with braces you can hardly see the gap and I hope they will close up soon! :)

Good luck if u get braces! x  (+ info)

Whar orthodontics treatment should i have? please answer!!!?

here are the things wrong with my teeth.
•Increased profile convexity - Bimaxillary Protrusive
•Slightly increased LAFH
•Normal Saggital Facial Symmetry
•Upper lip is protrusive - Lower lip Is protrusive
•NO dental or skeletal crossbites
•Maxillary dental midline is coincident with MSP
•Mandibular dental midline is left of midsagittal by 1 mm
•Class I dental malocclusion
•A class l skeletal relationship
•Permanent dentition stage
•Excessive space in the maxillary arch : Mild crowding of the mandibular arch
•Overjet is 3 mm : Overbite is inadequate - 10% Overbite
•Centric relation and centric occlusion are coincidental
•No Apparent Tooth Size discrepancies
•Previous extraction of third molars
•No Apparent Ectopic vs Impacted Teeth
•No enamel defects noted
•Lower Anterior Gingiva Thin, Prominent Maxillary Labial Frenum - Concomitant Upper Midline Diastema
•Oral hygiene appears good at this time
•Mild to moderate - A tongue thrusting habit exists
----------

You should get what the orthodontist recommends. Judging from the list alone, I would say 18-24 months in braces. If you are unsure, get multiple opinions. Many offices offer free exams.
Good luck  (+ info)

Braces...?

To fix a diastema (front teeth gap), do i have to get top and bottom braces. Isn't possible to only get top braces because my dentist is saying in order to fix my teeth (and cross bite), they would need to remove one incisor (bottom teeth) and then put on my braces?
----------

most likely they will put bottom braces on,
because it would be needed to fix your cross bite,
but not in all cases.
so just ask your ortho and if you don't want them,
try your best to not get them.
however,
if you need them,
i suggest getting them,
they will help in the long run.  (+ info)

Experts on the teeth area!!Help!!?

Hey i'm ma 17-year-old girl who had braces time ago, i got them off when i was 14 and i used the retainers the time i was supposed to. Ok my problem is that i got a little diastema between my incisors teeth(about less 1 milimeter)and i dunno what to do. My mom was an orthodoncist(R.I.P.) and she put me the braces(i got perfect teeth for a while) but now, from the time i could leave my retainers i pierced my tongue a year ago and about 4 months ago i noticed the diastema in my teeth. My mom once told me there are many alternatives to correct this, but now she's gone i don´t know wether i should wear braces again or have veneers. Experts gimme a choice to take please!!Thanx!!
----------

If you're willing, go for the braces again. It won't take long and you'll get a good result, for life. Sometimes there's a little flap of muscle between the front teeth and the upper lip that may need to be trimmed - because it can seperate your teeth. Once you're teeth are where you want them you can even bond a lingual retainer (tongue side) to keep them together. Don't go for the veneers because you have to remove perfectly good enamal - and you will need to periodically replace them for the next 60+ years! What a pain!  (+ info)

Am I too critical on my appearance..should I go through with treatment?

I'm a 19 year old male who is going into his 2nd year of college, and I have a part-time job..keep this in mind haha

Up until the 10th grade I never really paid attention to my appearance, so I was kinda chubby, diastema between my two front teeth, acne..and being white made the acne a lot more noticeable.

But I looked in the mirror one day and realized how much I hated my appearance...I'd neglected it for a long time haha. So I lost a lot of weight, started working out, and I just recently finished my invisalign set (It took 9 months to close the diastema and make my teeth completely straight).

I go tanning as well, because it does look better (since I was super white before) and I have a really good skin tone now that I do that.

However, I recently started focusing more on my acne. My skin isn't oily..I just get acne from stress if I don't moisturize. I moisturize daily, but my acne seems to never want to go away (I have some acne scars as well). My acne is mostly on my face, but I have some on my back as well. It's not severe...maybe mild-moderate.

I'm ok with my appearance now since my skin tone, body, and teeth are good, but my acne I just hate.

I did research and I'm thinking about seeing a dermatologist for a specialized treatment. And after that rids my acne I would do a chemical peel to get rid of the acne scars (they are all superficial).

However, do you think this is too much? I spend 60 a month on tanning, I just finished payments for my teeth (900 dollars overall), and my moisturizers usually are 15 dollars a month. The skin would cost about 700 (if I do the chemical peel, like 60 for just treating my current acne).

I know you'll think I should be happy with who I am, but I'm really self-critical and I know I can't change my mentality.

What do you think? I think if I had addressed these issues sooner than 10th grade, everything would have been better and I wouldn't have to spend so much money and time.

Should I do the skin treatment. I don't lack self-esteem but I know my confidence would be higher if I finally got rid of my acne.

Thanks

Diastemas?

I go to the dentist today to get a fairly small gap between my 2 front teeth filled in, but the dentist ends up making the gap bigger, stating that he couldn't fix the present diastema. Anyway, I would like to know two things. Firstly, does the gap eventually close up as I grow older (I'm fairly young)? Secondly, is there a way to fill in the gap, naturally or with cosmetic dentistry, other than veneers, because my dentist wishes to place them in when I'm eighteen... Oy...Oh, that brings up another question. Why does he want to put veneers in when I'm eighteen, is that just a personal choice on his part?

To MK: No, I wasn't given the option for orthodontal work. Should I do it without his knowing?

Your dentist is waiting for your jaw to stop growing and that is why he is waiting until you are 18 yrs old.
Sometimes the space can be filled with a composite resin, and sometimes a veneer might be a bit better.
He may be able to close it up a little with the filling material until then, but the space shouldn't be any bigger than it was before, if it is, I would find a new dentist.
Your very best option would be braces, did your dentist give you that option?  (+ info)
