How long should the distal joint on my finger be swollen for?

When playing football I got hit right in the tip of my left ring finger and the distal joint is still swollen and is slightly painful when forcefully holding a football or hockey stick. The injury first happened a week and a half ago. It is still swollen. What's your guess?
----------

well u got to give it time to heal,ur just aggravating it,but i love football also-so i would tape it tightly but not to cut off circulation-it will keep it immobile and give it a chance to heal.also ice it often  (+ info)

How many people know what Distal Arthogryposis or has known or has it?

I am almost 13 years old and is on a search to find a kid or an adult who has a disorder called Distal Arthogryposis. I think that is all I need to say.
----------

I'm afraid your going to have to say a little more then that. You see that name does not show up in any medical literature. Try your spelling or something related.  (+ info)

How long does it take for distal phalanges to fully heal from a fracture?

I broke the distal phalanges in my 1st, 2nd and 3rd toes (big toe, index and middle toe). Its been 3 days since it happened, but the pain is still excruciating. Any idea how long it will take for all 3 bones to fully heal? When will the pain start to ease up? When will I be able to walk normal?
I'm a healthy 20 year old female.
Thanks in advance.
----------

I have broken toes and yes it is very painful. The pain will ease up in a few days and you will be able to walk normally in about a month maybe. Try sitting with your legs elevated when the pain is real bad.  (+ info)

How long does it take to speak normally after a distal jet device is installed?

I had a distal jet appliance installed and need to wear for 6-9 months. I'm finding it extremely difficult to speak. The orthodontist said it only takes a few days to get used to it but that seems overly optimistic. I need to be able to communicate very clearly in my job so I'm wondering how long this will realistically take.
----------

I haven't heard that particular term but I'm assuming you're referring to headgear. My daughter would have had to wear this device during her orthodontic treatment for an open bite but she avoided it by choosing to have two of her upper teeth extracted instead. That's because some of her friends had to wear headgear and she thought it looked dorky. She also said that all of them had problems with speaking clearly and she didn't want that to happen with her. I really can't say if you'll be able to adjust or you'll continue to have problems. I guess it depends on the individual person.  (+ info)

What are some symptoms of a jammed or broken distal interphalangeal?

I am a wide receiver in football and the football hit me right in my left ring finger and it hurts to bend it from the distal interphalangeal and on. any where else on the finger is fine but the top of this joint hurts to touch and the bottom hurts, but much less than the top. Is it jammed or broken?
----------

you should probably get an xray to find out for sure.  (+ info)

Why is distal third of transverse colon drained by superior mesenteric vein?

Why doesn't it stop at the junction of proximal 2/3 and distal 1/3 of transverse colon like others? Why is SMV extra keen to go that extra 1/3?
I gather some people hate the end of school year. I am sorry to hear that. Now back the original question: why is distal third of transverse colon drained by superior mesenteric vein (and not inferior mesenteric vein as one would expect?) ? Many thanks.

Can my children inherit a missing distal phalanx?

On my mother's side there have been many relatives with missing distal phalanxes (1 to 3). It doesn't seem to be connected only to "Y" because my grandfather's sister had a missing phalanx. Also, not all men had this condition: my great grandfather did, my grandfather did, my uncle did, but my cousin has all his phalanxes. My grandfather's sister had kids, and one on them (male) was missing a phalanx. Is this information enough to know something about the possibility of inheritance? My mother didn't inherit this condition, and neither did my brothers. Thanks!
----------

Looking at the info you have provided, this seems like a straightforward inheritance, not gender linked.

Your Great Great Grandfather passed it to 2 children, son and daughter.

Each of these passed it to one child.

Neither of these seems to have passed it on further.

It looks like your mother missed out, so could not pass it to you or your siblings.

If you do not have it, you cannot pass it on any more than your mother could.  (+ info)

Do you get the distal jet appliance and braces at the same time?

or do you wear the distal jet for a couple of months, then get braces?
----------

They can both be worn at the same time without a problem.  (+ info)

what is the treatment for a great toe fracture at the base of the distal phalanx?

Its been six weeks since I fracture my Big L toe.The findings were a small chip fracture at the base of the distal phalanx of the great toe laterally without significant displacement of fracture fragments.I'm uninsured but the doctor that Im seeing said that she still saw no signs of healing and to stay off it completely and proped up for another three weeks.Has any one been in this situation and what can I do?
----------

nothing.

There is no magic spells to heal bones.

Just stay off of it and let it rest. It will heal with time  (+ info)

Removing pins due to a distal radius fracture?

I have two pins inserted in my wrist due to a distal radius fracture. I have the option to be put under general anestesia or have them pull the pins out of my wrist while I am awake. Anyone out there who has had this done? What should I do?
