What is the difference between drug abuse and drug addiction?

I am witing something freelance and just wondering if anyone can give me an addequite difference between drug abuse and drug addiction.

The definition of an addict is: 1. To cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance
2. To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively

Definition of drug abuse: he use of illegal drugs or the inappropriate use of legal drugs. The repeated use of drugs to produce pleasure, to alleviate stress, or to alter or avoid reality (or all three).

The use of a drug for a purpose other than that for which it is normally prescribed or recommended.

the habitual misuse of a chemical substance

They are very similar definitions. Almost the same.

Why are people either classified as a drug abuser or a drug addict? Drug abusers don't usually get the intese care an addict does. Remember, the definition for addic includes psychological addiction... not just physical.

when you are addicted, you are abusing them..so, not much difference  (+ info)

How long does it take for a drug to leave the body?

I have been taking a drug called kava kava which is an herbal drug I don't know if anyone is familiar with it or not but a couple days after taking this drug I started having serious heart palpitations. I researched online and I see that this drug is known to cause heart palpitations. Do you think this drug is actually causing the palpitations that I am having and also how long does it take for this drug to leave the system so that I can stop having these side effects? I have been drinking lots of water to see if that helps.
----------

The time that a drug takes to leave your system is usually measured by its "half life", meaning the time it takes for half of the drug's metabolic by-products to leave your system.

I just looked up kava kava, and read that it has a half life of 9 hours. This means though that what remains in your system can hang around for much longer than this - up to a couple of days.

Drinking water is about the best thing you can do.  (+ info)

What drug causes mind disorder or unable to be himself again?

Some people say that there are a drug that makes someone disabled and unable to be himself again. Because of that drug one of my friend is now unable to think and talking to him is useless now.
----------

i think it's a tie between x or meth.

x because if you take the wrong pill...it can completely change someone around. It's so dangerous.

meth i think though is like...the worst f'in drug. it completely morphs a person into something you don't even know anymore.

without seeking help...it'll always stay that way.  (+ info)

What type of drug makes your eyes red besides marijuana?

My sister is on something, but denies being high from marijuana. I am wondering if she is just lying about the marijuana and it is really some other drug, so technically she wouldn't be lying about smoking marijuana because she is doing some other type of drug. What other drugs make your eyes red?
----------

bloodshot eyes can be a symptom of vitamin C deficiency....... smoking anything will deplete you of your precious water soluble vitamin C supplies ........ as will antibiotics, otc cold and flu meds and painkillers, alcohol, sodas, pop and soft drinks, excessive caffeine, antidepressants, laxatives, diuretics, eating too much processed sugar and processed salt, sleeping tablets, the oral contraceptive and eostrogen supplementation ... other symptoms of vitamin C deficiency are easy susceptibility to cold and flu, easy bruising, bleeding gums, fatigue and exhaustion....... vitamin C deficiency can also contribute to digestive problems and joint pain.....;0)

peace baby

What is the difference between drug habit and drug addiction?

we obviously all know what drug addiction is. - you can't function properly without a drug. Your body and mind are so used to it, you need to use it regularly to feel good.

However, whats the difference between that and drug habit?

What does drug intervention actually mean?

I've heard a lot of people talk about drug intervention and I don't have any idea about it. I am interested to know because one of my family members is a victim of drug abuse. We are planning to make him go under rehab, but we don't know how to do it.
----------

Good that you want to know about drug intervention because it's something that you may really need. Drug intervention is the efforts of friends and family to convince a substance abuser to seek help or treatment. Usually, people who are suffering from substance abuse are in denial and can't admit to themselves that they have a problem. What is the new drug to help addicts from withdrawl?

A dear friend is taking a new drug saboxin(SP) for a long term use of using drugs? I want to know the correct spelling and the adverse reactions this drug can cause!
----------

SUBOXONE is the first opioid medication approved under DATA 2000 for the treatment of opioid dependence in an office-based setting. SUBOXONE also can be dispensed for take-home use, just as any other medicine for other medical conditions.

The primary active ingredient in SUBOXONE is buprenorphine.

Because buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist, its opioid effects are limited compared with those produced by full opioid agonists, such as oxycodone or heroin. SUBOXONE also contains naloxone, an opioid antagonist.

The naloxone in SUBOXONE is there to discourage people from dissolving the tablet and injecting it. When SUBOXONE is placed under the tongue, as directed, very little naloxone reaches the bloodstream, so what the patient feels are the effects of the buprenorphine. However, if naloxone is injected, it can cause that person to quickly go into withdrawal.

SUBOXONE at the appropriate dose may be used to:
Suppress symptoms of opioid withdrawal
Decrease cravings for opioids
Reduce illicit opioid use
Block the effects of other opioids
Help patients stay in treatment  (+ info)

What are some ways of home drug tests and ways to pass drug tests?

My boyfriend doesn't belive me when i say I\m not doing drugs. What are seome ways to prove it to him? Is there a home drug test?
----------

Tell him you aren't again. If he doesn't believe you then you don't have any trust in your relationship. Even if you spent $50 taking a home drug test, it would still prove he doesn't trust you. It could show no drugs but he will think you rigged it and still not believe you. Save the $50.  (+ info)
