Have you ever known stomach cancer to skip a generation? partic duodenal?

I know the gene would appear in the middle generation but I mean if the middle generation doesn't get it...
----------

It is rare for cancer to be hereditary. Genes do not skip generations. If you have a rare hereditary type of cancer in your family one of your parents must have the gene in order for you to have a 50/50 chance of getting the gene too. Having the gene usually does not mean you will get the cancer more often than not it only increases your risk.  (+ info)

Do duodenal ulcers heal? How long does it take for them to heal?? Do they heal on their own?

All depends how big is the duodenal ulcers. If you take care of this soon ,clean well every time you use the bathroom with soapy warm water, dry well, apply triple antibiotic. Always keep this area clean , use clean underwear especially 100 percent cotton. Also you can put Aloe Vera alternating with the triple antibiotic. But be sure you peel the green skins out and puree the aloe Vera 2 or 3 aloe Vera large leaves in the blender, add to ulcers with a 2x2 gauze .This is natural and it does wander for burns and cuts an have some natural anesthetic so it help the pain in the ulcers.I have use this in boils also . Check this sites about aloe Vera so you can improve your knowledge about it.  (+ info)

looking for any information on surgery to repair a duodenal fistual.?

My 78 year old father has had 5 major surgeries to repair a duodenal fistula after RFA to treat primary liver cancer. Has anyone had a similar situation?
----------

My Lord! He is so fortunate or unfortunate to be alive. A lot depends on where this fistula of his is connecting, Is he spilling into his peritoneum. Is the fistula malignant? Is the hole related to the cancer?
Is your dad alert and oriented x 3 and up and about, or is he dying?
I hate to be so cruel but 5 operations. Does he want all of this? The Clevalnd Clinic is very good with stuff like this, but then again, I would have to know a lot more, like where do you live?  (+ info)

Are there any herbs that can help with a duodenal ulcer or to reduce acid?

Try drinking fresh raw cabbage juice everyday. The herbs peppermint and slippery elm also work well.
Believe it or not, apple cider vinegar mixed with water works well. Thats what I use. Good luck
I know what your dealing with, I had a peptic ulcer myself that I cured instead of taking the purple pill. Also, as incredible as it sounds, cayenne will heal an ulcer. No joke.  (+ info)

is it any possible peptic or gastric or duodenal ulcer convert to stomach cancer?

I was homeless for a very long time, all the while I also had a mostly untreated anxiety disorder for which it was difficult to find help. A severe duodenal ulcer developed which was also not treated properly... when I finally secured a place to live, with the help of a catholic organization which found me and helped me, I was at then diagnosed with a rare intestinal cancer that had begun in my duodenum and had metastasized to my liver. My anxiety disorder was getting better thanks to the charity housing facility at st. clare's, but now I had this weird, rare cancer. I do believe that an ulcer can make a place for cancer to more easily take hold and thrive. But other factors must also be present too... severe, longterm stress and also an unhealthy lifestyle where you do not eat the proper foods, and of course constant fear or other negetive emotions. My body was not used to eating meat. I had been a lifelong vegetarian but when i became homeless, I had to eat meat sometimes unless i wanted to starve. The reasons I was homeless are harsh and complicated, but I want to let you know that I was living a holy life in spite of the anxiety disorder which would have held me to the house... if i had one. And it did, while i had a home to live in. Many thought i had done something to deserve it, but i had not. I had not sinned or anything, so it just goes to show that there are people who have terrible things happen to them that do not deserve it in the least and we should treat all people well nomatter what we may suspect, and even if they had sinned. Anyway, you don't have to worry about it. It is very unlikely to happen to you or anyone you know. God bless you...  (+ info)

Is beer OK to drink when you have an duodenal ulcer?

When in doubt, ask your doctor.
However, a small amount of alcohol, such as 1 beer, probably wouldn't cause you trouble, in my opinion.  (+ info)

HAS anyone had a baby with duodenal atresia?

i will get results 2mrrow if my baby has down syndrome or not from my amnio test just wondering has any one had a baby with duodenal atresia but did not have down syndrome is that a possibilty for that my baby could just have duodenal atresia but not downs??? really worried first baby at 19 with no family history of down from either side
----------

I looked up Duodenal Atresia on Wikipedia and it says: "Approximately 20-40% of all infants with duodenal atresia have Down syndrome." So your baby's chances at not having Downs Syndrome are pretty good.

Best of luck to you.  (+ info)

Gastric Band or Duodenal Switch? Ideally diet yourself, but which of the two operations is safest?

Watched a program on a 16 yr old lad who had a gastric band fitted overseas, with medical back up in his own country on returning home, I've also heard about the duodenal switch that is a longer op but which is the most successful or which has the most complications?
----------

Both gastric banding and roux-en-y (or duodenal switch) sugery have complications associated with them. The end result of the latter is basically short-bowel (or dumping) syndrome, that is, by decreasing the length of the small intestine, and stomach size, you limit the amount of nutrients which can be absorbed, as well as decreasing the quantity of food taken in. The complication rate can be higher for the duodenal switch because the surgery is more involved and is not reversable.
Gastric banding, depending on the proceedure, can be reversed, however, there is a risk of gastric necrosis from the application of the band, or permanent damage to the stomach as a result of adhesions or scarring.
If I were to chose between the two, I would rather the gastric band, which still permits the duodenum to function normally, and thus reduce the need for supplements to replace the fat soluable vitamins lost in the duodenal switch procedure. The other embarrasing side effects of dumping syndrome are also eliminated. Both surgeries should only be performed by a bariatric surgeon with a great deal of experience in these particular surgeries, and not just any old general surgeon.  (+ info)

No down syndrome but my baby has Duodenal atresia?

i recently had a amnio test and they said everything is normal which was a HUGE RELIEF! but now iam just wondering what happens now? the only reason i had a amino test was cause they saw duodenal atresia in bubs stomach and may of been related to downs but now there is no downs so what happens next??
----------

Amnio is greater than 99% accurate, so you're right, your baby doesn't have Down syndrome.

What they probably saw on the ultrasound was what's called a "double bubble" sign. This means that they're seeing two air-filled sacs in the baby's abdomen that are a sign of some kind of obstruction or constriction in the lower intestinal tract. This is seen in many babies who don't have Down syndrome, but is seen more often in babies who do have Down syndrome. Which basically means that if they see this, the risk for the baby to have Down syndrome goes up, and that's why you were offered amnio. But it's entirely possible for the baby to have some kind of duodenal atresia or similar defect without having Down syndrome or any other problems.

What happens next is up to both you and your doctor. Your OB may consider another ultrasound or two. It's up to your OB to decide if it's needed or not. If it turns out that your baby does have duodenal atresia, he or she will very likely need a surgery after birth to repair it. And make sure the baby's pediatrician knows about this and does a thorough check up for any other problems after birth.

If you have any other questions, make sure to discuss them with your doctor too. They're the ones who actually have all the test results and know the most about your case. They'll also be able to refer you to anybody else who may be able to help.  (+ info)
