Does dystonia kill? After a few complications leading to Parkinson's disease?

Its an inherited disease, and the symptoms are like Parkinson's disease. Could dystonia, after a few complications, actually lead to Parkinson's?
----------

First of all, Parkinson's does not kill so I would guess it is very unlikely that dystonia can kill. A person can die from complications associated with these diseases such as choking, but anyone can die of choking just as anyone can go outside tomorrow and get hit by a car.

Though I cannot answer if dystonia can lead to PD, similar but if you read this link below, you will find a little info on the difference between the two. PD is not always an inherited disease, but there are people with a mother, or father, or brother, sister who have had it and they have it, but many who have siblings with PD or PD like diseases never get it. A GOOD neurologist would be able to better assist in determining what is taking place and treatment.
Here is the link, hope this will help you some! Hugs

Can you develop dystonia through certain dances?

Like tight jerky dance moves like the robot, and pop-locking dance moves.
----------

No - dystonia occurs from abnormal chemical changes in the brain. The only way jerky dances are likely to affect your brain is if you are using ecstasy or some other drug that is linked to brain damage.  (+ info)

The Cheerleader who got Dystonia from Flu Vaccine, is it real?

i'm scared. what if the government makes it mandatory for every citizen to get flu shots? my brother was already required to get one by his job at the hospital.

was the dystonia caused by her genes or by the shot?

i don't want dystonia. i don't want to be killed by the government.

what should i do?
----------

While I won't be getting the flu shot this year and I'm not certain what risks it poses I do not believe that it caused that cheerleaders dystonia. Dystonia is a slowly progressing disease and is usually due to a genetic abnormality. Here is an article from the official dystonia foundation about their view on the disease and the woman mentioned in the video:

Don't get the flu shot if you don't want to, but as for dystonia I wouldn't worry.  (+ info)

Can a disease known as Dystonia turn into Parkinson's Disease?

I have a friend that has dystonia and what it is involuntary movement. Here is a complete guide to what dystonia is.F

Dystonia

Program Description

Dystonia is a syndrome characterized by twisting involuntary movements or sustained postures. Virtually any part of the body can be involved including the muscles of the face, speech and swallowing, neck, trunk, arm or leg. The disorder may be inherited or may occur in the absence of a family history. The disorder may appear in childhood or adulthood. It is an unusual condition, and is frequently misdiagnosed.

In some families, dystonia is an inherited condition. In others, dystonia may relate to an underlying brain abnormality or may follow chronic exposure to certain drugs. The diagnostic evaluation focuses on elements of the history and physical examination which may elucidate the cause of the disorder. However, in many cases, no cause may be found. Once present, dystonia tends to be a life long illness, though
For more information about dystonia go to this website www. rush, edy and type in dystonia.
----------

Parkinson's is from a lack of Dopamine in the brain but the cause of it is not known.
The description above sounds pretty gloomy. The web site below is much more encouraging. An exerpt:

Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. The neurological mechanism that makes muscles relax when they are not in use does not function properly. Opposing muscles often contract simultaneously as if they are “competing” for control of a body part. The involuntary muscle contractions force the body into repetitive and often twisting movements as well as awkward, irregular postures. There are approximately 13 forms of dystonia, and approximately 50 diseases and conditions include dystonia as a symptom.
Dystonia affects people of all ages and backgrounds. 50 diseases and conditions include dystonia as a major symptom.

How are Cervical Dystonia and ET tremors related?

I am having head tremors. I had them once about 7 years ago when I was under extreme stress, but they seem to go away. I have always felt like there was something wrong with my neck on my right side. I always have tenderness and pain and suffer from headaches alot. Do you think this could be related?
----------

You may be suffering from another type of localized Dystonia called Torticollis. (painful neck spasms) Often sufferers of Dystonia have more than 1 area involved. generalized dystonia can occur as a result of neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and strokes. It is difficult to treat but anticholinergic and benzodiazepine drugs often help. Biofeedback is also helpful.  (+ info)

Hello! I had a baclofen pump installed in my stomach for Dystonia. It makes a ticking noise. What is it?

Baclofen Pump for Dystonia and Spasticity! Questioning a ticking noise it makes
----------

Hi Natasha.

I also have an intrathecal pump (with a mixture of baclofen and other meds). I occasionally hear mine tick, but after nine months I generally don't notice it any more. I've never actually asked, but have always assumed that it's just due to the mechanics of the pump as it meters out the correct dose for infusion.

Hope that helps.  (+ info)

What are the chances of getting dystonia from the swine flu vacine? and the chances of the regular flu vacine?

???
----------

The chances of getting dystonia from the vaccines you mention are very slight. Check with your doctor, but sometimes it is a hereditary cause, rather than the vaccine itself.  (+ info)
