What ear is best for a cartilage piercing?

I am going to get my cartilage pierced, but I do not know which ear to get it done on. Left or right? Is there any significance?
----------

There is no significance. However, if you have a side part and more hair hanging over one ear than the other, choose the side with less hair over the ear.

hair is dirty and can cause infection easier.  (+ info)

How do they remove and upper ear piercing that go stuck in my ear?

My upper ear piercing went halfway inside my ear, and is stuck. I can't get the backing off, and it went in diagonally. I was told to go to emergency, how do they remove it?
----------

I agree with the first answer, why are you waiting - get yourself to emergency to have it removed. If you do not have it removed now - you may end up with a severe infection and could loose part of an ear which would be far worse than worrying about having it removed.
I would imagine that they have the right sort of instruments to take it out such as tweezers etc to get the end off so that the other part can be removed
Why are you worrying about the removal - if its a difficult one they can give you some pain relief so that you don't feel it coming out anyway
Your question raises another in my mind and that is - How come you ended up with it this way - were you or friends doing it at home instead of going to a proper piercing place and having it done under sterile conditions.
Please note the part of what to do if an infection develops in the website below - especially the bit about seeking medical care immediately - if you act now you may not get an infection   (+ info)

Why does my ear hurt after putting olive oil drops in my ear?

My doctor has prescribed olive oil ear drops to remove excess wax in my ears. I just took my second dose about 30 minutes ago and my affected ear is starting to hurt and feels a bit tight.

Is this normal? I've heard that sometimes this can happen because the wax is expanding in reponse to the ear drops.

Thanks.
----------

Thats right. Oil drops r prescribed so that the wax gets soft before it is syringed out. As it gets wet, it expands in size & since the space in the ear canal is limited, it is a bit painful.  (+ info)

What is the best way to hide your ear piercing from your mom?

I'm wanting to get my ears pierced but my mom says I can't. Maybe because my older sister got an infection in her ear from her ear piercing. I have cornrows so my hair won't cover it but she would probably notice the holes in my ears when we have dinner or something. Also if by any chance I do get an infection or something like that what can help prevent it?
----------

There really isn't a way to hide it. It will be pure noticeable. Depends how old you are as well. If you are at a silly age, then your mum is looking out for you, yeah my mum got mine done when I was 2 so I didn't feel the pain and when I was 15 yrs old, she came with me to get my belly button done but that's the only piercings I will have in my life. If you are at a mature age, then your mum should let you, get it done at a proper place and not do it yourself as you will ruin your ears.
Best thing to do is to not do it if it is going to cause trouble and it will make you look a bit silly for thinking you could hide it x  (+ info)

How can you tell if your ear piercing is infected?

My friend pierced the top of my ear a couple days ago, i told my mom and she wants me to take it out if it gets infected. But i dont know what an infected ear feels like or looks like. My ear is sore but thats because i got it 48 hours ago. Can you give me your oppinion?
----------

Oh trust me you would know. Your ear would be really pussy and a lump would form. And it hurts really bad. Just make sure u clean your ear really good wit alcohol to avoid this problem. It happened to me before. Yuck! The lump will be permanent! It won't be as big as it was when it first comes up but there will always be a lil lump or something there. At least that's how mine is, and some other people I know.

Hope this helps!  (+ info)

How can you tell if your baby is having ear infection or ear wax?

My baby is going 3 months old. I found out that there's yellowish stuff on the external part of my baby's ear, so i thought its his ear wax and used a damp cotton butt to clear it away, but recently i found out that the yellowish dried stuff has a shape like its flow out from his ear. Is this infection or its ear infection? Anyone experience this? Please advise.
----------

Is he fussier than usual? Awake at night? Irritable? does he seem to be in pain? Does he have a fever? Those are other common signs of ear infections, but if he has having discharge from his ear, it sounds like an infection. Take him to the doctor. My daughter is now just over 2 but we went through a period where she had ear infection about every second week. We had tubes put in when she was 18 months old and she has had only 2 since.  (+ info)

How do you get rid of an ear infection that stemmed from a cold or flu that is muting my hearing?

I've have had an awful cold or flu for weeks now and now I have an ear infection in both ears with some discharge (at times dark). It has both of my ears plugged up.Besides a doctor or antibiotics, any self treatment or natural remedy suggestions?
----------

Yes, there are over the counter things you can use to drain your nose and dry up your ears. Any one of them that says it will relieve nasal stuffiness will do the trick, although it will likely take a day or so for you to notice a big change. Sudafed is one drug to consider, but there are others, just ask the pharmacist. The eustachian tubes connect the ears with the rear of the throat, and allow the ear to adjust pressure to match the outside air. When the nose is stuffed, and you have a lot of mucous, some of it can block those tubes. Draining it helps the ears clear. You can also help it along by trying to clear the tubes yourself, along with the medicine. Hold your nose, close your mouth, and gently blow. You will probably not feel a lot at first, or it may hurt a bit, if so stop. Repeat that several times through the day, and eventually you should feel an eardrum slowly start to feel like it's moving, and perhaps even feel your ears "pop". When you feel the movement in the eardrum, it means the tube is clearing, but not quite clear. A drum that will actually pop means it is now all clear. If this doesn't help, along with the medicine, within a few days, then you likely need to have the doctor have a look.  (+ info)
