What are some remedies to relieve an ear ache?

Hi. I have a pretty bad ear ache, and I just wanted to know if there are any home remedies I can use to relieve my ear ache before I go to the Dr. It's my left ear. Thank you for your answers in advance :)
I don't have a cold or allergies, or anything, just an ear ache.
----------

You can use warm Sweet Oil in it, or use Earache Relief by Similasan. These two remedies work pretty well. You need to tell whether you are having allergies, a cold, or even a sinus infection before anyone can recommend anything further.  (+ info)

How long is my ear peircing sopposed to hurt after being peirced?

Kay so I just peirced my ear myself today. It didn't go as smooth as I would have liked it was kinda rough. So it's sore. I don't remember my last ear peircing cause I was so little so I'm not sure how long it's sopposed to be sore prior to healing.
I can't tell my parents I made a second hole myself!
----------

It is very easy to get infected, when you do it yourself. I would personaly tell my parents. You really need to. But if yuo choose not to than, it usually heals within a few hours or at most a day. If you really don't want to tell your parents and you want to keep it from getting infected, than I think yuo should put like some peroxide on it.

Hope I helped!

How long does it take for an ear infection to heal?

I went to the doctor a few days ago because I had this really annoying click in my ear whenever I swallowed. The doctor checked my ear out and he said I had a build up of wax and some redness in my ear. He gave me a prescription for some antibiotics to clear it up if it starts hurting. It hasnt started hurting yet (and ive had it for about 3-4 weeks) so how long will it take to heal by itself?

What are the details about getting an ear pierced?

I am thinking about getting my ear piercd.

1. I've read some stuff, and is it true that you HAVE to keep it in for 6 months after getting it pierced? Would I just be able to wear it a couple hours a day and not have a problem?

2. Also, after the piercing, how long is the ear swelled or bleeding?

3. Finally, all the sites talk about infection. Is it really that big a deal and do I have to wash the ear a couple times a day like it says?

Thanks for the help!
----------

1. No. Your piercings would be irritated, and eventually close. If you're not ready to commit to healing them, and keeping them in while they heal, don't get them pierced.

2. Mine didn't bleed much at all. Swelling goes down in a day or 2.

3. You should clean it a couple times a day. Infection is a nasty problem to deal with.

It doesn't sound like you're really ready to take care of them. Don't get them pierced.  (+ info)

How is hydrogen peroxide bad for infected ear piercings and what are alternative methods?

My ear got infected and was oozing bloody puss a few days ago. My mom put Hydrogen Peroxide and Neosporin on it and it hasn't pussed or anything since, however, it still feels swollen and it's hard to/hurts to twist the ear ring. I got on here to look for answers and kept reading the hydrogen peroxide is bad for it, which brings me to my original question. How is hydrogen peroxide bad for infected ear piercings and what are alternative methods?
----------

yeah i've heard hydrogen peroxide dries it and take longer to heal. it's better than nothing though. if you got it pierced professionally, they should give something to clean your ear with, but if not then mix sea salt and water and apply it with a q-tip. also keep twisting it. and i heard vaseline is good for piercings because it keeps stuff out of the piercing, like bacteria, but i haven't actually tried it.

hope that helps  (+ info)

What are the best ear plugs for sleeping and to block out talking?

My roommate talks all night and she's extremely loud and obnoxious. I bought Hearoes ear plugs from Wal-Mart and they don't work as well as I want. Any other ear plug suggestions that work really well but are ok to sleep in?
----------

when buying ear plugs they will always specify how many decibels (dB) they will reduce the noise. Try to get ones that are washable and reduce the dB more than 30dB. you should probably spend about $10 on a great pair.
it sounds like you bought these
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10533246

those are 33dB which is great but they might not be reusable very much. make sure that you are wearing them properly. if you are wearing them properly then you should be able to hear yourself chewing very very loudly. if you can you should try to find some reusable ear plugs. usually reusable ear plugs come with a small case so that you can store them during the day.
scroll down on this page to see what a pair might look like.

How to get wax out of the ear or any products?

My ear is a little blocked because of excessive ear wax...I am very scared of q tips because of something that happened to me with them, so any products I get buy to put into my ear?
----------

You can buy Auralgan at the drug store. Heat it under warm water and put several drops in one ear. Fill the ear canal with cotton batten. Do the same with the other ear. Leave it in for about 1/2 hour and remove cotton and tilt head to drain.
Repeat.
If this doesn't clear the ear canal, an injector ear cleaner is available (like a giant syringe) that shoots water into the ear and clears it.  (+ info)

What is the best natural remedy for ear infections in children?

My 3 year old son has his second ear infection, we went to the gp and he took amoxycillin. It seemed to clear up, only to return again but much worse this time. His ear is oozing and is a little red. He has no temperature now and seems to be recovering but the ear is still bad.
----------

This may sound strange to some, but if you have access to breast milk, it is one of the best remedies for ear aches and infections. I have used it many times on many different people and it works quickly and very well. I know a little boy who was on antibiotics, had a similar experience as you describe. His mom put breastmilk in his a ear, and after a few times, it was completely fine.
It also works for conjunctivitis, and skin infections.
If you don't have access to any, you could research an herb called Spilanthes. It is a super immune booster, an anti-viral, anti-fungal, and good for reoccuring ear infections.
Also, I use garlic mullein oil, warmed, with a few drops in the ear. I am an herbalist and make my own, but one can buy it in most natural food stores.
Also, you may want to give your son pro-biotics since he has been taking anti-biotics. This will promote healthy growth of intestinal flora, and prevent digestive and other health problems associated with anti-biotic use.  (+ info)

What are the best ear rings to wear with big ears?

My ears have been an on going problem. I have decided to stop hiding them and wear my hair up because I dont want my hair to be forever about hiding my ears. They are round and both protude over 2 inches. What kind of ear rings would be best for my ears. I'm thinking sparkly studs.

STUDS ARE REALLY CUTE
BUT I WOULD SAY BIG HOOPS

How can I remove my piercing from an infected and swollen ear?

My ear is totally infected from my ear piercing. I have a rubber back on it, but my ear is so swollen that it is completely covering the back and I cannot see the rubber back. Puss is leaking from my ear and my ear is throbbing and causing me a lot of pain. I have no idea how to remove it.
----------

Don't take it out. If you take it out the infection will be trapped inside when your ear heals. Go to your local piercing shop. They'll probably give you a ring for your ear so that it can swell as much as it needs to. You can also try a salt solution to draw the infection out. Try H20cean or dissolve like a teaspoon of sea salt in hot water, hold it on your ear and repeat. Hope this helps. :)  (+ info)
