How long after getting ear pierced should you wait before stretching the hole?

I want to get a plug in my ear, but don't have my ear pierced, so im wondering if there is like a certain amount of time you have to wait before attempting to stretch it.
----------

Minimum six months. Your ears have to be very well healed before you can safely stretch them. Here's a good guide on how to stretch using tapers: http://forums.bodyartforms.com/forums/t/5641.aspx  (+ info)

Can an ear infection eat a hole through your skull and expose your brain?

I have an acquaintance who is telling her elderly mother that her ear infection has created a hole in her skull exposing her brain. The mother is scared her daughter might die.

I don't believe this is possible. Nor do I believe that if it were possible that an ER doctor would just send her home with antibiotics.
----------

It's not true and it's not funny for her to say this to the elderly mother. That's cruel.  (+ info)

How can I treat my ear infection at home?

I have an ear infection in my left ear, the pain seems to vary throughout the day. What home remedies, can I use to cure it, or atleast make the pain subside?
----------

I find the best thing that works for me is heat. Apply some heat to your ear - as hot as you can handle it. Make sure it's dry though and not wet (like a wet towel or something).  (+ info)

I have had a cold for the last few weeks now, and my right ear just started killing me! First it got all stuffed up in a matter of minutes, then I would start feeling extreme pressure in my ear. It is making me miserable and I would do anything to stop it! Do you know of any ways to help my ear? Home remedies are preferred, but if you know of a product that helps, that is also fine.

Every 6 months or so I get an ear infection and I can't keep going to the doctor as I don't have health insurance. This started happening after moving to a different climate and until I am able to move somewhere else I need some home remedies to help me get rid of ear infections when they pop up. PLEASE help me with this as it is getting very old to have to go to the doctor for such a thing every 6 months. Thanks a lot!

How do I get my ear clean of puss from an ear infection?

I know its gross and I'm sorry... I got an ear infection from a cold and I don't know how to clean my ear out. It feels like there is a bubble around my ear so I can't hear normal. I've been on antibiotics for 3 days now and it doesn't feel like its changed at all. Will my ear clean itself out soon or is there anything I can do?

PS. I've been laying on a heating pad a lot hoping that would help.

Okay...Personally, I like to go the homeopathic or herbal way when it come to health. Have you ever heard of "candling"? Go to your local health or herbal store and tell them your situation. You want to buy ear candles. You'll need someone to help you do this, but it's really neat. And I promise you you it's painless and will cure you better than an antibiotic! Good luck my friend!  (+ info)

How do I clean my really infected ear cartilage and stop the swelling??

Okay. here's the story. it was about 3:50 am in the morning and my ear started to ache after just shy of three weeks of getting my cartilage pierced. so i look at my ear and the ball from my starter piercing was gone! i tried to pull the earring from behind (the lock) but it would not budge. so i got my cousins to help me and we assumed that the ball fell off. we went online and we read all these stories about infected piercings. so i went to the bathroom and with major pulling, i took out the lock. i then pushed the earring forward and the ball from my starter piercing was INSIDE MY EAR! now there is a huge bump behind my ear, probably from the pulling. it was red for awhile but now i can feel all the blood in my ear. i'm planning on using Betadine (the surgical antiseptic) on my ear. how do i get rid of the swelling behind my ear? and how should i clean it?

what a story, huh?
----------

Hopefully, when you originally got the ear pierced you were given a bottle of a disinfectant solution to use on the piercing. Return to the shop that did the piercing, for them to see the ear. Meantime, put ice on it to help the swelling, and take some Tylenol or Motrin to help with the pain. You may have reacted to the metal in the stud, unless it was entirely surgical stainless steel. If it wasn't they may be able to replace the stud with one that is, and help try to save the piercing. If the site ever produces pus, go to the doctor. It may be you can save the piercing, since it is not currently infected, it sounds more like it is reacting to the metal of the post. If it is actually infected, the doctor may want you to take antibiotics and let the ear heal back. Afterwards, you may be able to repierce it if you like, in another spot. Sometime cartilage just doesn't take to the piercing process, though. If you already had a stainless steel stud, then it may be an early infection. Betadine is not the ideal thing to use, but in a weak tea looking solution, it will work to help disinfect until you can get the stuff from the shop. Use a clean cotton pad to clean the ear, front and back. If it's too gunky, you can also use salt water to clean it as well. Be sure you wash your hands with antibacterial soap before and after cleaning your ear. Good luck, hope it heals well for you.  (+ info)

How do i get my ear to unclog i have used ear wax removal kits and swimmers ear? It has been 2 weeks?

I had a cold for the past month or so, i have tried using ear wax removal kits and swimmers ear but nothing is working. I cant hear anything out of my left ear.
----------

You might have fluid in your inner ear causing the problem with hearing. Go see the doctor and they can tell when they look down your ear canal if there is fluid in there. They might prescribe antibiotics.  (+ info)

What kind of home remedies are there for a clogged ear?

About a week ago I developed what I think was some kind of flu. A few days after getting sick, I got an ear infection. I had planned on riding out the sickness on my own until the ear infection. So I called my doctor and had him call me in a Z Pack (Zythromax).

I've finished the antibiotics, but my ear still feels clogged. There's no pain at all, just a clogged feeling and muffled hearing out of that ear.

Does anyone know of any kind of home remedies that could help me out?

Get some sweet oil....it comes in a little 2 fl oz bottle for like a dollar something at walmart...what I usually do is pour just a little bit into a spoon and heat it a little bit...not much though ( you dont want to burn your ear) and pour it into your ear. Let it sit in there for a little bit and then let it drain out.....it will break up what ever is in there. If you dont want to do the sweet oil...try laying on a heat pack. That should also help break up what ever is stuck inside of your ear. I would opt for the sweet oil thought as it has worked many times for me in the past.  (+ info)

What is the best way to stop my ear producing excess wax?

I have tried putting warm olive oil in my ear, that is ok but I don't want to have to do that forever. My doctor said my ears are full and she can't even see my ear drum. I know sounds disgusting but I have to live with it.
The doctor told me to try syringing but I said no because I did it once and afterwards a doctor told me not to do it because it might damage my ear drum and this time I went to a different doctor in the same surgery and she said to do it but I said no. I always stick the ear cotton buds in deep and go deaf for a week but I don't learn, it tickles so I do it, will have to stop that. The doctors are stupid they all tell me different things.
----------

Carry on with the warm olive oil to soften the wax - do this twice a day for three days. Then buy some eardrops from the chemist which contain hydrogen peroxide (Otex if you're in the UK is a good one) and use them twice a day for five days. Ear syringing is not recommended these days as it can lead to infection and/or perforation of the ear-drum which is very painful. If the above doesn't work, get your GP to refer to you an ENT surgeon.

Also, don't get water in your ears as it will get trapped behind the wax - put some cotton wool in loosely while you have a shower then wipe gently around the ears to clean them. NEVER stick anything in your ears - you'll only push the wax down further.  (+ info)
