How does pre-eclampsia effect my baby?

I am 35 weeks and three days pregnant and yesterday my midwife told me that i have pre-eclampsia. She has told me that is i get blurred vision, spots in front of my eyes or a headache again i am to go to the hospital.

I understand this and i understand the different symptoms you can get but what i would like to understand is how pre-eclampsia is effecting my baby.

I really hope that someone can give me an insight on this or even a web page that explains it all in a easy to understand way.
----------

I found this on webmd I hope it helps you. Good luck.

Preeclampsia can prevent the placenta from receiving enough blood, which can cause your baby to be born very small. It is also one of the leading causes of premature births and the difficulties that can accompany them, including learning disabilities, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and hearing and vision problems.  (+ info)

Can a woman who is underweight still develop Pre-Eclampsia?

Can a woman who is underweight, and never had Pre-eclampsia with previous pregnancies suddenly develop Pre-Eclampsia?
Monique- that is incorrect. PE and toxemia are the same things.

I had it at 34 weeks, and had to have a c-section at that point because it was severe PE. I was a little overweight to begin with, and ate way too much when I was pregnant gaining a whopping 55 pounds!!
----------

yes... it has to do with the amount of protein in your urine and yes any pregnant women can develop it. i did and had to deliver at 36 weeks...  (+ info)

Can I have a normal pregnancy after pre-eclampsia?

Last year I had a miscarriage at 23 weeks due to pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure and kidney problem) at the beginning of my pregnancy which is very unusual because it's normally happen towards the very end of the normal pregnancy. As a result I am now suffered high blood pressure and kidney damage. After 12 months monitoring my health my doctor gave the green light to try again. I want to know anyone has the same problem and what happen to your subsequent pregnancy. Thanks

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy and delivered my son via c section at 24 weeks. He is fine though. Im so sorry you lost your baby. Were you tested for any clotting disorders? After my son, I was tested and came up positive for MTHFR. I am currently pregnant with my second and I am terrified that its going to come back and I won't be so lucky this time. :( Any success stories would be great!  (+ info)

How soon in pregnancy can pre-eclampsia occur?

It set in at 34 weeks during my last pregnancy.
----------

It's said anytime after 20 weeks, in my first pregnancy it was discovered at exactly week 20 for me.  (+ info)

what is pre eclampsia? What is the treatment for it, does it repeat in every pregnancy, how can v prevant it?

My wife had pre eclampsia in last pregnancy, she is 16 Weeks pregnant now, We r giving her Enoxaparin Sodium 20 mg Subcutanous as a precautionary medicine along with Aspirin 37.5 mg.
----------

Pre eclampsia is pregnancy induced hypertension - or high blood pressure. Treatment usually includes a high protein diet and bed rest.

My midwife stated that pre eclampsia usually only occurs in a first pregnancy, and will not recur with subsequent children. There are exceptions to that, however, and your wife should be monitored carefully.

Quick question - did the doctor advise/prescribe the medication your wife is taking? And if so, did he know that she was pregnant at the time? Or has he been informed of her pregnancy since? If not, call the doctor immediately to inform him - they may alter treatment.  (+ info)

The doctor says my daughter has pre-eclampsia, what are the dangers?

They are inducing on Tuesday.
Do I need to worry?
----------

Preeclampsia is high blood pressure in pregnant woman(hypertension) and large amounts of proteins in the urine and can cause the pregnant mother to go into cardiac arrest if not treated right away or soon enough, but she will be fine and this is why they are doing the induction and as soon as she delivers it goes away immediately .  (+ info)

Can you still have a baby if you had pre-eclampsia?

If you've been diagnosed once with pre-eclampsia, can you have more children later? Someone I work with was told she should never get pregnant again or it might cost her her life. How do you revent pre-eclampsia?
----------

I'm not sure how to prevent it, but my doctor discovered my pre-eclampsia when I went in for my pre-op appointment to deliver my twins. I was 36 weeks + 6 days at the time. My doctor never told me to avoid a future pregnancy, and I'm pregnant with a singleton right now. I'm sure in some cases that the pre-eclampsia case is so serious that the doctor might recommend that the woman diagnosed with it not endanger her life by becoming pregnant again. One of my former coworkers, back when I was still in the workforce, was told never to have another baby because her blood pressure was naturally high and she and her unborn baby almost died on her first and only experience with pregnancy. Probably, each case is different. A lot of women in danger due to rising blood pressure during pregnancy are put on bed rest at their doctor's recommendation, to keep the baby in for as long as possible before delivery becomes the only option to save both mother and baby's lives.  (+ info)

38 weeks prego, some signs of pre-eclampsia? Should I go ahead to the hospital?

I am 38 weeks pregnant now and I do not have an OB,(long story not by choice), I am having terrible headaches as well as my head is tingling and I have some signs of labor. I am torn whether or not to go ahead to the hospital just to be safe. Any advice?
----------

Headaches are a sign of pre-eclampsia. . .so is blurry vision, racing heart, high blood pressure, sweating. . .
Is usually does not happen all at one, but gradually-nothing is for certain. I would definately go to the hospital and explain what you are feeling. They will more than likely give you an ultrasound along with a non-strees test to evaluate the baby.  (+ info)

Please Answer! I am pregnant again after postpartum eclampsia?

I had a overall good first pregnnacy and then developed severe postpartum eclampsia after delivery. i had a seizure, and i'm concerned about this happening again. does anyone know what the chances are.
the seizure happend 8 days after delivery and it was a boy. i had been having severe headaches when i left hospital.
----------

Did you have a boy?

Generally low - you'll probably just be watched for BP and protein, but I wouldn't let it worry you. It's hard for it NOT to worry you since you had it before, but stressing can ALSO increase your blood pressure.

I had severe preeclampsia with baby #1 and baby #2 I was scared to death. After one visit with higher blood pressure, my doctor told me to calm down and to only worry when SHE started to worry. Assume everything will go fine and generally it will.

Like I said, I wouldn't let yourself worry. You know what you're doing this time and what to look for. I'm actually surprised they sent you home if you were having bad headaches.

I know it's hard - it's always on the back of your mind. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but try to stay calm.

The reason I ask if you had a boy is because preeclampsia and postpartum eclampsia are more common with boys than girls. Go figure.

I was told that you have about a 20% chance of developing it again, slightly higher if you have a boy again.  (+ info)
