what is eosinophilia and how it diognise?

Eosinophilia is the state of having a high concentration of eosinophils (eosinophil granulocytes) in the blood. The normal concentration is between 0 and 0.5 x 109 eosinophils per litre of blood. Eosinophilia can be reactive (in response to other stimuli such as allergy or infection) or non reactive.

The symptoms of eosinophilia are those of the underlying condition. For example, eosinophilia due to asthma is marked by symptoms such as wheezing and breathlessness, whereas parasitic infections may lead to abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fever, or cough and rashes.  (+ info)

eosinophilia at biopsy?

sir I did endoscope and Biopsy in my stomach and they found that there is an eosinophilia in my tissues so what should i do. I am suffering severe gastritius and breathing problem
----------

That would be eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE). IM me if you want more info. I have eosinophilic gastroenteritis and eosiniophilic esophagitis, so I can give you as much information as you want. Some really good websites are
www.apfed.org
www.curedfoundation.org

They will give you much information on eosinophilic disorders, and help you out quite a bit.

And the other answer is wrong. I only go on steroids during a flare-up, and 'chemotherapeutic agents' are used only for the most severe cases. The ones that start in childhood. Yes, EGIDs are caused by allergies, but they can also be auto-immune.

The typical treatment includes proton-pump inhibitors (like Prevacid), allergy medications (such as Singulair. Which I'm allergic to. Haha.), elimination/elemental diets, food trials (being on an elemental diet for a while, then slowly adding one food at a time), G-tubes (feeding tubes), IL(interleukin)-5 inhibitors, anti-eotaxin, CCR3 (chemokine receptor) antagonists, and for those with allergic IgE disorders, medications that block IgE (Xolair® or Omalizumab®), anti-inflammatory medications, immunosuppresants (for those with auto-immune forms).

I hope all of this helps! Again, IM me if you want more information!  (+ info)

Child with eosinophilia and mild basophilia. Input please.?

My child recently had bloodwork performed. The following numbers were abnormal. Concerned about the following:
Basophils 2+ High
Eosinophils 14 High
Lymphocytes 31 Low
Monocytes 7
Segs 47
WBC 6.4
----------

Your pediatrician gave you the results of a WBC (white blood count) differential, which classifies the wbc's by type and levels in the blood, as a diagnostic tool. When wbc are elevated, it means your child has an infection, and that his immune system is doing it's job. Each type of white blood cell (leukocyte) fights a different thing (i.e. eosinophils like to attack parasites, elevate with allergies, destroy antigen-antibody complexes). Don't worry about the numbers -- your child's immune system is doing it's job...and so is your pediatrician. Your child will be fine!  (+ info)

How to get rid of continuous cough?

I am 29yr Old and I have eosinophilia and I am sometime getting into continuous cough. I had all of the test by physician and also I do not have TB. Is there any Solution?
----------

Your problem is really serious and I am sorry that you suffer heavily.

continous cough means you have poor resistance to cold atmosphere.
You can not tolerate cold bath, curds, sweets, sour dishes.
you can not tolerate AC cooler also.

symptom is cough but cause is stomach. So you need to look at basic health of your Stomach. how is your digestion, how is your bowel movements.
how easy you evacuate.
Take care of your digestion.
cough is result of undigested food sticking to walls of intestine and getting putrified resulting into too much cough.
No medical practioner will agree on face of it, but fact is this.
So you Do some things and Do not do somethings

one is take warm water as much as you can on rising from bed.
for easy bowel cleaning.
go for jogging.walking

limit your tea coffee to minimum
take light food, do light exercise.
take lot of leafy vegetables, fruits
take 250gm papaya or banana every day before retiring.to bed
take sprouted beans

avoid late night movies.
avoid spicy, sweets, colddrinks ice creams pastry.
avoid eggs, fish meat.
avoid smoking
do not go for junk foods like Pizza and chickens. that are heavy on stomach

Normalise your hunger.
eat only when you feel hunger.
once a week remain on fruits only.
take hot water bath till you feel tolerating cold bath.
avoid breezy and windy atmosphere, use warm woolen vests

all this will give you cummulative effect of reducing cough and after 3 months your cough will no more be there

if you get fever and tonsilitis due to cough , do not go for operation.
as it is natural indicator that something is wrong with Stomach.

and lastly learn some meditation and prayer, so daily fix time to do so .
this will help you know yourself better. and no Medicine will be lasting cure.

best luck.

My son was prescribed 5mg/ml prednisolone for 10 weeks. What are the possible complications?

He is only 15 months old and was diagnosed with Eosinophillic esophagitis. On his Second endoscopy, they saw that the eosinophilia has moved down to the small intestines.
----------

The lowest possible dose of corticosteroid should be used to control the condition under treatment, and when reduction in dosage is possible, the reduction should be gradual.

Since complications of treatment with glucocorticoids are dependent on the size of the dose and the duration of treatment, a risk/benefit decision must be made in each individual case as to dose and duration of treatment and as to whether daily or intermittent therapy should be used.

This is an excerpt from a drugs.com (from the FDA) under precautions. It's a long list and probably will help answer your question. Just scroll down to where it says precautions or you may want to read the entire article. Hope your baby does better soon.  (+ info)
