Getting a Diverticulitis diagnosis...?

I have had on-going gastric issues for over eight years now (and I'm only 27!). I have been to countless specialists, doctors, clinics, hospitals, etc, and NO ONE has been able to figure out what is wrong. I have been told I have gastritis and eosinophilia, but they can't really tell me why. The only thing that has ever come back on tests (consistently) is a high eosinophil count (both in the blood and in my stomach tissue). I have bouts where I can't eat for days to weeks at a time and typically end up in the hospital about once a year. I was just in the hospital for three days last week because I couldn't keep food down for 10 days!

I've been trying to figure this out for myself and stumbled across Diverticulitis. It is the FIRST thing ever that has seemed to fit 100%! Everything from the nausea & pain in the lower gut to the elevated white blood count to the fact that it gets worse at night and even the "feeling hot while having no fever" and the exchange between diarrhea and constipation! I swear, it HAS to be this!

HOWEVER, I have had two or three CT scans in the past few years and no one has ever brought this up. Is it possible that it can be missed?? Is there any other way to diagnose?? I'm DESPERATE for answers..........
I WANT to tell myself they could miss it --especially since they weren't really looking for it-- but I just don't know if it's possible. I'm supposed to have a colonoscopy in three weeks, but I'm still having acute symptoms and REALLY don't want to / CAN'T wait that long. :/

How Does The Doctor Diagnose Diverticular Disease?
To diagnose diverticular disease, the doctor asks about medical history, does a physical exam, and may perform one or more diagnostic tests. Because most people do not have symptoms, diverticulosis is often found through tests ordered for another ailment.

How can L-Tryptophan be making it back onto the market after being banned by the FDA?

I use to take L-Tryptophan in the late 80s/early 90s for sleep (it was awesome), then it got banned by the FDA due to causing Eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome. They pulled them off the shelves. No I see Alteril being sold at CVS with the main ingrediant beign L-Tryptophan. I called the manufacturer, and they said suplements are not managed by the FDA. I asked them if they knew about the ban and they said no. I asked to speak with a laboratory manager, and they said it's only customer service. I asked where it was manufactured and they said California. Try Googling L-Tryptophan and the word FDA ban. I'm feeling afraid to take this stuff again.
----------

A lot of issues in your question.

First, the FDA DOES REGULATE nutritional supplements.

Second, L-Tryptophan was banned because of ONE batch that was accidentally contaminated during the manufacturing process. It was the contamination of the batch, not the L-Tryptophan, that was the cause of the problem.

Third, L-Trytophan (when in pure form and not contaminated) is not toxic in normal doses.

Finally, I am not aware of a removal of the ban by the FDA (of course, I could be wrong about that, I'm just not aware of it), so L-Tryptophan is still banned as a nutritional supplement (for scientifically invalid reasons as noted above). Consequently, I would be very suspicious about this product and the company that manufactured it (and CVS for selling it!).

I would suggest that you contact the FDA.

Best wishes and good luck.  (+ info)

School drama...please read this.?

Alrighty. Well I'm in 7th grade, and there's this girl. We'll call her Ann. Well Ann used to be my best friend. We were always partners in PE, ate lunch together, had sleepovers, giggled together, talked on myspace, etc.

Well recently, me and my other friend who is like my BESTTT friend, we'll call her Tia, got in a small argument. It was over in no time like always. But Tia talked to Ann about what was going on. And Ann became veryyyyy defensive. She started sending me comments on myspace cursing me out and threatening me and telling me to go kill myself or die from my intestinal disease (i have eosinophilia.). I am obviously very upset. She said she is going to beat me up tomorrow which I doubt but I am still nervous about what she will do to me in PE, etc.

So pleaseee help.
Thanks<3
----------

Here's something I learned through experience:

Emotions tend to affect a person's decision-making.

With that in mind, I'll try to answer the question.

Tia, because she's a good friend of yours, easily made up with you over your little argument. Then, she goes to tell Ann about it. Ann becomes really defensive.

Ann shouldn't even meddle. She's not part of the trouble, is she?

However, I could say it may not be Ann's fault that she's like that. Maybe her attitude is like that because of what Tia told her. Maybe Tia altered a few things.

Ann, now, becomes really horrible, saying you should kill yourself or die, and she's gonna beat you up the next time you meet.

Horrible as it may seem, you should not worry.

Emotion drives a person to such statements and clouds his/her judgment, but don't worry, she can't do that. Even if she does, you shouldn't be afraid, because who would be in deep trouble afterwards? You? NO.

Cheer up, chin up, smile. :)  (+ info)

Would a high WBC account for blue lips...?

okay... kinda complicated, but...

I have Eosinophilia, which is an elevation of a certain type of white blood cell. I have a feeling my count is up lately, because when it goes up, the WBCs attack a certain set of tissues and my lungs haven't been very helpful lately... no constriction, necessarily, but just a LOT of mucus and unnecessary coughing. I went over to my sister's tonight and she said my lips were purple. She thought I was eating some colored candy or something, but I didn't have anything!

I'm not too worried about it, because I get regular ECHOs and I don't have any other symptoms, but.... I'm just wondering if the two could be connected...? I work in a hospital, so I think I'll just check my O2 at work tomorrow, then go (to get a CBC) in if the problem persists or if my O2 is off.

THOUGHTS...???
I had Pneumonia about 18mos ago... this doesn't feel like that. I feel like I have smoker's lungs, though I've never smoked, nor am I around second-hand smoke. I've been using my sister's neb, which hasn't helped. I highly doubt it's anemia, because I take an iron supplement. I will definitely check my O2 tomorrow... hopefully that's not it!
----------

Perhaps your oxygen intake and diffusion has been compromised by the excessive plugs of mucus resulting in the cyanosed(blue/purple tinge) appearance of your lips.Coughing in excess can also cause oxygen availability to be compromised.
Get an O2 saturation done,it is very quick and will indicate how much 02 is available and circulating at the time.If this is low an arterial blood gas may be necessary.  (+ info)

Swollen lymph nodes... should I worry?

Hi. I've asked a question about this before, and I took the advice and saw my doctor... but can I trust this doctor?

My lymph nodes started swelling up about a year ago, one by one (two in left axilla, two left supraclavicular, one behind left ear...sort of at the back of my head, two back of my neck -right side, several inguinal lymph nodes - left side). A new lymph node seem to swell up every month... and they don't go away. I know some of them have gotten bigger over time.
Size wise they're between 1-2 cm. Some of them are moveable, some are not. They're all very firm and they are painless.
I have just been to a doctor and my doctor is not concerned! She said maybe it's because I'm thin, and it's normal to feel them in thin people... I'm not a person who normally worry a great deal about my health, but I know this isn't normal for me! I've never had this problem before!
The worst part is that she even discussed the possibility of lymphoma with me, but suggested we'd wait and see if I developed any symptoms! This is really upsetting to me... what am I supposed to do? wait and see if I get sick? Great if I don't get sick, but I'm gonna have this hanging over my head for a long time!
I've had blood tests that show that my hematocrit is on the low side, and mild eosinophilia. But she's not concerned about it...I haven't been sick, and I have no alleriges. (Also been tested for EBV - it was negative)

I have been to another doctor earlier, who wanted to get an FNA of one of the lymph nodes, but I'm away from home, and won't be seeing this doctor again for months...
Should I be worried? Or can I let it slide...
I'm 22, female. and I don't have any other symptoms. Not sure what a PBS is?
My doctor also said a parasitic infection was highly unlikely.
----------

I was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and I had no symptoms at all except for an occasional head cold or sinus infection. Usually swollen lymph nodes are the only symptom people get.
Do not wait until you get sick to find out if it is lymphoma, you should have a CT scan done right away of the areas that they lymph nodes are swollen in. If the lymph nodes are swollen in more than one area you made need to have a biopsy to know if they are lymphoma or not.
If you feel that your doctor is not concerned about your health you should switch right away. When I was diagnosed it was me who kept avoiding making the appointments and my doctor would personally call me and tell me that she scheduled the scans and biopsy because of how important my health is. It is very important to have a good doctor regardless of whether you are sick or not.

Good luck with everything  (+ info)

Worms, Allergy Or?

Recently, I've been under treatment for high eosinophilia (28-36%), all other blood count are within range. Also, I been suffering from abdominal pains at various locations. Plus nauseous feelings whenever I take in food.

I've taken Mebendazole & Metronidazole but neither improve the situation.

My doc ran a few more blood tests and found out my Immunogloguline E (IGE) was high and thus ran some allegry test for me. The nurse screw up my stool test and I have to wait another 3 weeks for the results.

In the mean while, my doc gave me albendazole (400mg single dose) to try. It made me feel much better but only lasted for a day.

I'm tempted to get additional albendazole dose for the relieve, but I'm not sure if worms is really my case. Too painful and uncomfortable to think straight. Would like to seek some professional advice here.

Thanks in advance.
Have been on methylphenidate hydrochloride (concerta) for the past 2 years, vitamin suppliments and melatonin. All of which I've stopped taking for the past 2 months.

Blood pressure is normal. No other symptoms has surfaced yet.
----------

A high eosinophilic count is almost by its nature involved with an allergic reaction. What concerns me is that your doctor seems focused solely on your intestines to the exclusion of other possibilities. What I'm thinking of is eosinophilic myocarditis, an allergic reaction of the outer muscle of the heart, the symptoms of which can be difficult to pin down but which can include nausea and pain in areas of the torso some distance away from the heart. I'm not saying this is a likelihood, but its consequences when left untreated make it a possibility which should not be completely ignored. You don't happen to be taking Provigil, are you? Or is your blood pressure unusually low or causing you to feel dizzy? If so, consider going to an ER.  (+ info)
