Does anyone have Epstein Barr Virus? And if you do, how do you cope with it?

I was recently diagnosed with Epstein Barr and my doctor seemed to have no real answer for me other than to get plenty of rest. I was wondering if someone else had more information on how I should deal with this virus.
----------

Everyone gets EBV. Everyone.

How sick you feel depends on how old you are when you get it. The older you are when you get EBV, the sicker you will feel. Teens suffer much more than 5 year olds, that's just the way this virus is.

Rest and you will feel better in time. Avoid contact sports until your doctor clears you, because you could rupture your spleen. That would not be good....  (+ info)

Is there a connection between Epstein-Barr Virus and Fibromyalgia and where can I find information?

I was diagnosed with EBV 10 years ago and got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Depression 5 yrs ago-is there a connection and if so where can I obtain information.

If anyone can help-Thank You!
----------

Is there a connection? No.

Here's one reason why. EBV only lasts in the body for no more than 2 years and that's in severe cases. Most people only have it for about 6 months.

There's no way you could've had it 5 years ago muchless now. Once the body overcomes EBV - or any virus - it builds antibodies to protect itself. You are not at risk for contracting it again.

Initially it was believed that EBV was connected somehow to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but they are two completely different illnesses. The bottom line is that EBV is really just an expanded version of mono - they are both herpes viruses.

That's a good place to learn more about Fibromyalgia. It is *not* a form of arthritis, just a relative. I'd love to elaborate but I've got to be a good answer fairy and keep it movin. Ask a specialist if you have further questions.

Best wishes.  (+ info)

Has anyone ever had epstein barr virus and suffered with severe fatigue and breathing problems?

I've been very ill for about 4 years and have been to every specialist that I can think of and all they've found is ebv which is associated with mono.
----------

About 95% of the population has EBV, so this virus correlates with nearly every symptom in the book. Chronic fatigue syndrome is thought to be a possible complication of EBV and it causes fatigue as the name suggests. Breathing problems are not generally associated with CFS. Also, most cases of suspected CFS that persist for more than 6 months are caused by something other than EBV.

The breathing problems you have makes it very likely that EBV is not the cause. Investigation of the breathing problem is probably the most likely path to discovering what is going on. If abnormalities causing the breathing problem can be identified, the possible causes of the abnormality would provide a clue to your illness.  (+ info)

Epstein Barr virus can I get this infection by drinking uncooked water or dirty food ?

transmission of EBV requires intimate contact with the saliva (found in the mouth) of an infected person. Transmission of this virus through the air or blood does not normally occur.  (+ info)

how do doctors treat a really bad case of epstein barr virus?

i'm having one of the WORST cases ever and just wondered if there is anything to help at all?
no, i haven't kissed anyone and i already have chronic fatigue syndrome. i'm on disability for that and fibromyalgia. i've been sick for 20 yrs and this is the worst case ever. the doctors give me adderall but, it's not working this time. i was just wondering if there are different treatments.
----------

Epstein-Barr virus is not mono. EBV is a virus and infectious mononulceosis is an infection. Mono is often caused by EBV but it can also be caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV). Therefore, EBV & mono should not be synonymous. EBV can also trigger CFS. EBV infects B lymphocytes and establishes a latent infection.

Symptoms can flare up or worsen under certain circumstances. Your EBV levels can skyrocket. Always but always follow a good diet and take a multivitamin-mineral supplement. Increase your protein and fiber intakes. Add zinc to your diet. Zinc is necessary to support a healthy immune system and aid in healing. Symptoms of zinc deficiency include fatigue, hair loss and digestive disorders. Zinc can naturally be found in many of the foods above, including beans, nuts, whole brains, fortified breakfast cereals and dairy products. Cut back on or eliminate caffeine.

Try to get 6 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Stay active. With EBV symptoms mimicking that of CFS and with your CFS, it may be hard to get out of bed but it's important to keep moving. Develop a daily fitness regimen, in which you elevate your heart rate continuously for at least 30 minutes. Increasing your heart rate gives you a mental and emotional boost and helps control stress, which triggers EBV symptoms. And try to manage stress. Do what makes you happy and allows you to unwind.

I wish you well.  (+ info)

----------

It's mono. Don't you have a sore throat? Epstein Barr virus or mono most always has these acute symptoms almost like strep throat.

There is a theory that Epstein Barr causes chronic fatigue syndrome but it hasn't been proven. What kind of test did he give you?

Epstein-Barr virus, frequently referred to as EBV, is a member of the herpesvirus family and one of the most common human viruses. The virus occurs worldwide, and most people become infected with EBV sometime during their lives. In the United States, as many as 95% of adults between 35 and 40 years of age have been infected. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/ebv.htm  (+ info)

is it possible i could get mono a 3rd time with the epstein barr virus?

i hate mono ive had it twice and had the epstein barr virus im really tierd ive been dealing with this for years and im only 10my dumb Doctor said it was because i was going to bed at 8 and waking up at 6:30 i don't think that's it is it possible i could get mono a 3rd time?????????????????????????
----------

when you get mono it stays in your blood forever so it Can become active but not likely with exceptions i think your virus is still effecting your system and hasn't been treated properly see a different doctor because yours sounds like abit of a Quack going to bed at 8 and waking up at 6:30 is not going to cause any problem ask your parents to send you to a different doctor, Because getting it 3 times would be very strange i suggest he hasn't treated you properly ,good luck !  (+ info)
