How do people with Munchhausen syndrome make themselves sick?

i was just wondering what do theses people do to the bodys to get themselves sick.
----------

Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disorder in which those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is in a class of disorders known as factitious disorders which involve "illnesses" whose symptoms are either SELF_INDUCED or FALSIFIED by the patient. It is also sometimes known as Hospital addiction syndrome.

can sick sinus syndrome of the heart get worse even when the person has a pacemaker?

What is called "sick sinus syndrome" is when the natural pacemaker in the heart isn't sending impulses in a timely manner to keep the beats regular. The symptoms progress over time until finally the person requires an artificial battery operated pacemaker implant to regulate the heartbeat within normal range. After reading numerous articles on Google about this problem, nowhere could I find anything that explained the outcome of the sick sinus syndrome after a pacemaker was implanted after some time goes by. If the pacemaker is regulating the heart rate, how could the problem still get worse, if it does? The person I am referring to is a 71 year old man who has no other major problems and doesn't have a weak heart muscle, just the problem with the electrical impulses. .
Also I was wondering if others who have had a pacemaker implanted, have had pain in their left shoulder or under the left shoulder blade and have you found the cause of it? Thank you for all comments.
----------

The rhythm problem should be all better with the pacemaker.

The left shoulder problem is probably muscle related due to the arm being somewhat immobilized for a few days. Try a deep tissue massage and ask if the therapist found a lot of tight muscles in the area.

If the massage does not help at all, ask the cardiologist to evaluate the pacemaker site. I can;t imagine the pacemaker is causing the shoulder pain because it is so small, but anything is possible.

Is the patient having hiccups constantly ? If so, call the doctor as soon as possible.  (+ info)

Is there a mental illness or disorder in which people make themselves sick for attention?

I thought it was Munchausen syndrome but WebMD describes Munchausen syndrome as a mental illness in which a person repeatedly acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when he or she is not really sick.

Is there a mental illness or disorder in which a person actually makes themselves ill for attention?
What I mean to say is if munchausen syndrome is a disorder in which people just PRETEND to be ill(according to webmd) then is there a form of mental illness or a disorder in which a person actually makes themselves ill for attention?
----------

symptoms are either self-induced or falsified with munchausen syndrome

EDIT: Hypochondriacs don't make themselves sick, they themselves worry that they are ill.  (+ info)

Can someone tell me why most sick people have Geopathic Stress?

I heard that it is also known as the sick bulding syndrome.
----------

What Is Geopathic Stress?

Geopathic Stress is natural radiation that rises up through the earth and is distorted by weak electro-magnetic fields created by subterranean running water, certain mineral concentrations, fault lines and underground cavities. The wavelengths of the natural radiation disturbed in this way become harmful to living organisms.

Electropathological energy created by modern technology can also contribute to geopathic stress in the form of high and low frequency energy from telecommunication towers, electricity pylons, transformers, radar and radio towers.  (+ info)

Is Kartagener syndrome and sick cilia syndrome the same thing?

i have sick cilia and i googled it and it came up with an article with that name and said it was the same thing...but i have never heard that name before! i was held back in kindergarten because i was in the hospital getting sinus surgery like 5 times.....is it the same thing???
so is it the same or not! i read both those websites....does anyone know?
----------

Kartagener (pronounced KART-agayner) syndrome refers to a condition that involves difficulty with clearing mucus secretions from the respiratory tract, male infertility, and situs inversus. The defining characteristic of this syndrome is the situs inversus, which is a reversal of abdominal and thoracic organs.

Sick or immotile cilia syndrome

To date three distinct morphologic types of immotile cilia disorder in man have been recognized. Patients with the disorder have variable clinical manifestations of disease of the upper and lower respiratory tract. Twenty-one patients with immotile cilia syndrome have been evaluated from the standpoint of history, clinical presentation, radiologic changes, pulmonary function tests, and mucociliary clearance. The results have been compared to the pathologic changes noted on ultrastructural examination of the cilia. Although clinical severity does not correlate with the type of abnormality found, a profile of clinical signs and symptoms suggestive of immotile cilia syndrome has emerged. The triad of productive cough, sinusitis, and otitis was a consistent finding in all. Situs inversus occurred in only half of the patients.

why is my 8 yr old daughter getting sick?

My daughter whos 8 only gets sick at nite..She has been to a gastro Dr who ran tests and all is normal?
She gets stomach pains and then a headache.Sometimes she throws up.
Like i said,Dr found nothing and claims in may be irritable bowel syndrome.I dont agree!!What can i give her for it?
----------

This is not emergent, do not go to the ER as stated above and the ER does not do colonoscopies and it is not indicated by her symptoms. Have her seen by her family physician. Ask her if there is anything she is scared of or stressed over at school or home. Even at this young age there are bullies and her worrying could be manifesting these symptoms.  (+ info)

What is it called when you feel sick but your really not?

What is it called when you feel like you have a disease or something like after doing extensive research in it. I once heard there was something called Textbook Syndrome, but i couldn't find any information on it.
----------

I am not sure that this is hypochondria, as that tends to be a condition where the person will perpetually and genuinely believe they have illnesses or disease and seek out medical help and treatment, although no medical reason for the persons "illness" or disease are found.

If it was a one off occurrence, and the person genuinely began feeling symptoms related to the disease it could be considered psychosomatic in nature? For example, if I read in a textbook about appendicitis, and began feeling nauseas and experienced pain in my abdomen, it could be said that the symptoms of appendicitis were psychosomatic (based in my mind) due to having read the textbook rather than being medical in nature.

I have not heard of the term textbook syndrome, but I have heard of people who experience what you have described. To some extent, I think everyone does this! I am not sure if this is a real condition, that exists and is diagnosable though!  (+ info)

Does anyone elso out there have symptoms of sick building syndrome?

Also do you have a hard time getting doctors to listen and diagnose anything related to your illnesses?
I'll try the air filter, thanks for the tip. I've been taking cleansers (Ultimate Cleanse)and exercising a lot lately and it seems to make a big difference. Problems I've had for the last 4 years because of this are chronic sinusitis, rhinitis, asthma, allergy like symptoms, headaches, muscle aches, dry eyes, rash on face, ibs, colitis, and probably some more that I don't remember. It's funny how all these problems go away when I'm out of the building.
----------

YES, my eyes are always RED when I am at work and I have a tickle in the back of my throat, only when I am at work. when I go outside, my eyes are clear and no cough...

try putting on of those air cleaners on your desk, it helped me.  (+ info)
