One reason why people who wear contact lenses are more likely to get eye infections is because

Choose one answer.
a. Contacts shuttle tears away from the nasolacrimal duct

b. the lacrimal aparatus works less when one wears contacts

c. Contact lense wearers tend to have dilated pupils

d. Contact lens wearers do not blink as much, allowing microbes to settle on the eye

e. Contact lenses inhibit tear production
----------

NOTA.

f. b/c contact lenses have the following effects:

1) hold microbes onto the eye b/c of lack of tear exchange
2) create a low oxygen environment
3) hold microbes in the matrix of the lens (soft)

contacts DO NOT "decrease tear production" nor do they have much to do with the lacrimal gland or "shuttling" tears anywhere or pupil size or number of blinks. is this a real question on some test somewhere? if it is, its one w/o a correct answer (among the 5 listed choices)  (+ info)

Anyone who knows anything about eye infections out there?

I just got back from my eye doctor who said I have epidemic keratoconjunctivitis or EKC. She was very unprofessional about it, and was yelling at me to not touch anything, she also new nothing about it at all. She said I have white dots on my cornea. I looked it up online and it said it;s pink eye. Is this what I have? Or do you know anything about this at all? I[m confused, she didn't know what it could be caused by, what to do to treat it, or anything at all.. Thanks in advanced everyone.
----------

I just looked it up on webmd.com and from what they say about it is that it is pink eye. They suggest you use a precribed eye drop or ointment to clear it up. If your doctor does not know about this, then I think you need to see a Ophthalmologist. Not just any eye doctor. However, your eye doctor should have known what pink eye is. So I would find a new doctor. Good luck.  (+ info)

How can antibiotics worsen fungal infections?

I have 4 choices.
I want to make sure I got the right answer.

A) Antibiotics increase the likelihood of developing resistant organisms.
B) Antibiotics kill only the weakest fungi, leaving the strongest to survive and thrive.
C) Antibiotics kill the bodys natural flora, which tend to keep the fungi in check,
D) Antibiotics can antagonize the uptake of antifungal drugs into the infecting fungi.

I think its A or B.
But I'm not sure.
Help please (:

Bleach + hot water, I think that's a bad idea.

Over the counter drugs: got an antimycotic nail lacquer (Ciclopirox). Been using it for a week. Too early to tell. Pack includes files to file away the nail entirely.

Lamisil? None of that in my neck of the woods.
----------

Lamisil (terbenafine) is the only antifungal over the counter that has been proven to kill fungus instead of just retarding its growth. I would seek one of the Lamasil AF creams. Lamisil comes in a tablet form as well but it is only available via prescription and the cost is substantial.  (+ info)

Do skin fungal infections ever really die. or do they go away for a while and then come back?

I had a gross purple-looking fungus on my thigh years ago, but the doctors were able to get rid of it. Now I have a rash that looks like the fungus did when it was new- could it be the same fungus? can they just hide under your skin, biding their time till they want to come out again?
----------

A good way to fight fungus is to stop eating things that are full of sugar. Fungus organisms feed on sugars. Another thing you can do is get a bottle of acidophilus capsules or tablets at a health food store, or Walmart, and take them as directed on the bottle. The acidophilus organisms tend to kill fungus. Another thing is to put some anti-fungal cream on that area, you can buy this at drugstores or Walmart. I would do all three things at once if I were you.  (+ info)

Diluted bleach as a natural home remedy for toe nail fungal infections?

Well, maybe it's not so natural. But it worked! Diluted 1 part bleach to 2 part water, applied daily to nails cut way down so nail bed was saturated. In about a month the nail grew back clear and pretty! Does this sound safe?
I tried tea trea oil and didn't get any results :(
