Dear woodjunkie,

I have a 5 yr. old nephew with neurofibromatosis. It is a bad genetic disorder. His mother recently got him diagnosed with ADHD and is trying to get him labeled an autistic child. I disagree with most of these modern neuro logical disorders but not NFM.

The VA will give disability for diseases caused or aggravated by military service. Your best bet is to get some one who is conversant with the VA appeals system to write up your applications and appeals for disability. Try the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or AMVETS; they have much experience in processing claims and will work with you till you get it resolved. The local chapter of both these organizations can usually be found in your local phone book or use the e-mail links given below.

Good luck, good health, peace and love!

How do I get rid of a fibroma on my leg?

I have what my doctor calls a Fibroma on my shin. It's been there over 2 years, last year,I had it looked at,and he gave me some itch cream for the itching, and he said it might go away without surgery. It still hasn't gone away, and I think it should be removed, even though the doc said I'll have a scar if removed, but I keep opening the skin from scratching it,and I'm gonna have a scar anyways, and I don't want to keep having to get cream for it.I want it removed.I don't care if I have to go to the hospital to have surgery.

i'd have it removed by a plastic surgion caude constant irritation may get you something worse.  (+ info)

should I get a biopsy on a NONOSSIFYING FIBROMA?

they took an MRI and they didn't tell me much at all. They called me and said that they were gonna take more x rays in 6 months and that i was to start physical training for a possible cyst. after several weeks, i got irritated and went up to the doctor's office and requested the MRI report. it said that it was a possible NONOSSIFYING FIBROMA.

okay, my question is: why is everything "possible," and why haven't they done a biopsy or something to PROVE that that is what it is? why do the doctor's call it a cyst, when many science websites call it a tumor?

any help will be most appreciated. please be kind
this is on my distal femur and my proximal tibia (my knee)

what is fibroma molle?

Fibromas are benign tumors that are composed of fibrous or connective tissue.

A fibroma molle is a soft fibroma with less fibroid tissue than other fibromas. They are mostly seen on the neck, armpit, and groin, but can be found in other areas.

See my source below for a photo of a fibroma molle, and for more information.

Hello Adrianna, Swimming, "treading water", or even laying on your back doing bicycle pedaling in the air might be good. If you plan well you could also raise your heart rate up by doing floor exercises all back to back with no rest times and try monitoring your heart rate to see if you can get to 50% maximal heart-rate. Some examples might be to do bicyle pedaling, "clam shells" for the glutes, bridges, abdominal crunch and pushups onset followed by another set (of different bodypart) with no breaks. Wear a heart rate monitor to see if you can get your rate up. Makes sure these are all mat/floor work so you don't put weight bearing pressure on the lower legs. Alternatively, I'd give the orthopedist nurse or a physical therapist yo may be working with and ask thier advise. I hope this helps.  (+ info)

Has anyone's infant/child experienced Infantile Digital Fibroma?

My 4 month old was just diagnosed with this. It is a hard bump on end of his finger. The dermatologist has not seen it before so couldn't give me much information but a page from her book (with all that medical lingo I just do not understand) So I googled it and just not too much out there on it. There is no known cause. I would like to know if any have experienced and what they did about it. The Derm told me could biopsy it but since not bothering him and is benign, can just monitor it. Said should go away in first 2 years. If not can surgically remove it. Since she did not know what is was to begin with, wanted to get others thoughts about it. Thanks!!!

What is the treatment for infantile digital fibroma?

Eventually many fibromas resorb and disappear by themselves over 2 to 3 years, so that a conservative wait and see approach is best if they are not causing problems. If desired, they can be removed by a simple surgical procedure in which the lump is shaved off. However, many recur after surgery.  (+ info)

I have a lump in my uterus, what will happen to me now?

I had periods on August 2, then - second periods on August 20, and the second periods did not stop, never did, and I bled and bled, and bleeding now. Then I went to the doctor, and had ultra sound and I have a lump in my uterus, 1.26 inches long, and I am waiting for the pap result, and other tests, they will come up on Wednesday, and I can't stop crying and reading things about cysts, fibroma and cancer.
Do you think that they made a mistake and I have no lump? I know, they then will start cutting piece after piece of me, and then I will die.
and I can't sleep.
----------

I have been in your position & I know how hard it is to wait for all the results to come in! Hang in there! Honestly, you have a 99.9% chance of it being a Cyst or a Fibroid. Either one is a treatable condition. To calm the bleeding down, they will probably put you on a b/c pill. If it is found to be a cyst, sometimes surgery is the best option but, on some occassions they do resolve themselves on their own. If it is a Fibroid, this is a benign condition, which means it is NOT cancerous & can be treated without surgery. The chances of it being any form of cancer are very slim. You are very young & it sounds like this bleeding may be a new symptom. I commend you on going to the Dr. immediately, best to diagnose early. Since you have had so much bleeding, I would be sure that you do get bloodwork to test for Anemia, including testing Ferritin levels.

When you have been healthy for the majority of your life, it is very easy to immediately think the worst when something like this occurs, but don't! The good news is that they were able to find a reason for the bleeding & it is most likely very treatable & you are not going to die! If I were you, go ahead call the Dr's office tomorrow morning, ask to speak with the Dr's nurse & let her know your feelings & concerns. She can relieve alot of your worries too & explain more specifics of your case. Also, ask her if the results come in early, to have the Dr. call you, so you don't have to wait. Hope this helps! I know all will turn out O.K.!!  (+ info)

This is not uncommon, its usually a hereditary thing and can be corrected. I have seen this before and seen how the dentist and orthodontist can fix it, they can do wonders.  (+ info)
