fibrosarcoma of left thigh and fertility?

My husband had fibrosarcoma on his left thigh when he was 7 years old he's since been fine and I've been trying to talk to him about possibly starting a family in the next year or two and everytime he makes a comment about it maybe not being possible because of the radiation being so close to that area. I'm trying to find some statistics to show him or if any of you have had this or know someone and can maybe give some advice that would be great I can tell he's really worried and I want to show him there's nothing to worry about! Thanks!

This question can be answered very simply by going to his Physician and having a sperm test. You will not have to wonder.

Normally radiation therapy is guarded by shields from the genital area for this very reason .  (+ info)

Is there a syndromee with biliary atresia and fibrosarcoma?

They appear to be separate syndromes. Hope this helps

Biliary atresia is a rare condition in newborn infants in which the common bile duct between the liver and the small intestine is blocked or absent. If unrecognised, the condition leads to liver failure but not (as one might think) to kernicterus. It has no known cause, and the only effective treatment is by surgery or liver transplantation.

[edit]
Symptoms and diagnosis
Initially, the symptoms are indistinguishable from neonatal jaundice, a common phenomenon. Symptoms are usually evident between two and six weeks after birth. Besides jaundice, other symptoms include pale stools, dark urine, swollen abdomen and large hardened liver. Prolonged jaundice that is resistant to phototherapy and/or exchange transfusions should prompt a search for secondary causes. By this time, liver enzymes are generally measured, and these tend to be grossly deranged, hyperbilirubinaemia is conjugated and therefore does not lead to kernicterus. Ultrasound investigation or other forms of imaging can confirm the diagnosis. Further testing include radioactive scans of the liver and a liver biopsy.

Biliary atresia is a very rare disorder. About one in 15,000 to 20,000 babies in the U.S are affected every year. Biliary atresia seems to affect girls slightly more than boys. Within the same family, it is common for only one child in a pair of twins or only one child within the same family to have it. Asians and African-Americans are affected more frequently than Caucasians. There does not appear to be any link to medications taken during pregnancy.

[edit]
Pathophysiology
There is no known cause of biliary atresia.

As the biliary tract cannot transport bile to the intestine, bile is retained in the liver (known as stasis) and results in cirrhosis of the liver.  (+ info)

Has anyone been diagnosed with Fibrosarcoma? Can you please explain what it is?

Fibroids develop in women because a lack of folic acid. Folic acid is drawn from a womens body from taking birth control pills for a long time. We have lost a child because of it and it caused me to do extensive research. Drink your water and take your multivitamins and you should be cool.  (+ info)

Anyone gone through chemo and had kids later?

I'm 32 and going through chemo for fibrosarcoma of the bone. Because I'm in my 30s I've been told I only have 50/50 chance of having kids once chemo is all done because it kills off eggs and such. So has anyone been through chemo and had success getting preg later on? Also egg preservation is NOT an option for us so don't suggest it. Thanks. :)
My chemo drugs are adriamycin and ifosfamide

I know someone close to me that had chemo with 5FU in her 20s and was able to concieve very quickly with no problems. But the dosage was not enough to make her lose her hair completely. I have not heard that chemo can make you infertile.  (+ info)

Has anyone had or heard of this cancer?

When i was 3 year old, i currently had Fibrosarcoma, on my left shoulder blade, or at least around it. And i didnt know much about it. Now that i think of it, is there any sites that define of it. because i just wanna know. and plus in my family, Cancer has been a trait for some reason. I had it, my mom had it (she passed away), my both grandparents did, on my moms side, since then, we've had it
----------

A fibrosarcoma is a malignant (cancerous) tumor that originates in the connective fibrous tissue found at the ends of bones of the arm or legs, and then spreads to other surrounding soft tissues. Soft tissues include fat, muscles tendons (bands of fiber that connect bones to muscle) nerves, joint tissue, blood vessels and other fibrous tissue. It most commonly affects either a lower leg or arm There are generally two forms of this disease:

Infantile or congenital fibrosarcoma: this type of tumor is the most common soft tissue sarcoma found in children under one year of age. It presents as a rapidly growing mass at birth or shortly after. This form of fibrosarcoma is usually slow-growing, and tends to be more benign than fibrosarcoma in older children, which behaves more like the type found in adults.
Adult form fibrosarcoma: The adult form of this disease can occur in older children and in adolescents, roughly between the ages of 10 and 15. It is more aggressive than the infantile form and generally involves more complex treatment.

Can this turn into cancer??

I found a lump a couple of weeks ago and it keeps getting bigger. It is on the bottom of my foot on the arch of my foot under the skin. It hurts! My doctor said it was plantar fibroma. BTW i went to an orthopedic. I was wondering if this could turn into fibrosarcoma. Can it?
----------

A plantar fibroma is not cancerous. Many plantar fibromas will go away without treatment.  (+ info)

How old is the youngest cancer survivor?

When I was 10 I was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma, through surgeries, tests, faith and prayers I was told I was cancer free. This was obviously over a period of time but I'm curious, is 10 the youngest? I already know it's not normal for a 10 year old male to even get diagnosed with this type of cancer. Usually males between the age 30 and 40 are diagnosed with ot.
P.s. I meant if I'm the youngest with the type of cancer I had. The kind I had is rare. Only 1% of cancers are what I had. Obviously kids younger then 10 have cancer but is it fibrosarcoma? I don't think so.
----------

There are different kinds of fibrosarcoma . . some are more likely to occur in children (Infantile fibrosarcoma) while other subtypes are more common to adult patients. I know of a two year old originally diagnosed with stage III adult fibrosarcoma in her upper right arm/shoulder. Do you know which type you had?

You can check little Maya's page as she is now 'cancer free'. Please be respectful to these parents and child:
