If I make home made cheese from Vit d fortified milk, does the vit d remains in the cheese?

Process of making cheese: boil vit d fortified milk and add little vineger, Cheese is formed and is separated from the water. Now my question is am I loosing the vit d in this process?
----------

Vitamin D is fat-soluble. You will loose hardly any by boiling the milk. (If it were water-soluble instead, then you might loose some in the process.)

Many cheeses have vitamin D in them naturally.

However, I am not aware of any cheese you can make simply by boiling milk. Are you sure you didn't leave out something? (Like rennet, for example?)  (+ info)

Is it true eating Shrimp and drinking Vit. C will cause intoxication and can lead to death?

I need professional answers. Eating lots of shrimp and drinking Vit. C will cause intoxication because the Arsenic Pentoxide (As2O5) in the shrimp will react with Vit. C to produce Arsenic Trioxide (As2O3) which is very toxic, it can cause heavy bleeding and death. Is it true?
----------

I'm not sure where you heard that ? But what about all those who've used Lemon juice on there shrimp for years and years.?  (+ info)

Does freezing orange wedges kill the vit C in them?

My kids love them but I have been told they aren't as good as fresh ones due to the Vit C being frozen out of them.
Of course I'd prefer to give my children fresh oranges but for some reason they won't eat them.
----------

In general, frozen produce has more vitamins than fresh because fresh produce is losing vitamins all the time it is sitting there until it is eaten, whereas when you freeze something, usually you do it when it is at its peak condition. Frozen orange juice has plenty of vitamin C, so I think this idea is just false. I suspect a little bit of vitamins are destroyed by the freezing process, but more vitamins are lost as the fresh produce sits there.  (+ info)

What could cause me to have difficulties with absorbing Vit D?

Even after 3 months of taking mega doses of perscription Vit D, my D level actually went down a little because I am not absorbing it well. My doctor says it could be a gluten allergy, but i am not sure.
----------

You can find the relevant information in a web search for "vitamin d absorption problems".  (+ info)

how many ounces of vit d milk should my 13mth old son be drinking in a day?

my son is 13mths old and weighs about 25lbs he is eating some table food and lots of babyfood. We just finished switching him over to all vit d milk. How many ounces should we be giving him a day and should i be giving him vit drops as well?
----------

He should be getting 8-16 oz of milk per day starting at 12 mos through adulthood. No more than 16 oz. That's according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. If it's more than that, it forces him to fill up on milk instead of other foods. If he's eating a variety of foods, including fruits, veggies, meats, and cheeses, etc. then he doesn't need a supplement. If he's a finicky eater, then go ahead and give him one. Double check with the pediatrician to choose one.  (+ info)

In dialysis patient does vit K contributes to extracorporal clotting?

in a well nourish dialysis patient there is a tendency for blood to clot in the dialyzer (extracorporal circuit)-my observation any way. I was wondering can it is be due to the high level of vit K in this group of patient.
----------

Certainly, malnutrition can lead to vitamin K deficiency, which then can lead to a mild degree of coagulopathy (blood having trouble clotting).

However, a few other possibilities exist:

1. Patients who are not well dialyzed (missing shifts, arriving early, leaving late, poor blood flow in access, etc) have uremia, which can suppress appetite. At the same time, uremia is associated with platelet dysfunction, which "prevents" clotting of their circuit.

2. Patient who are not well dialyzed tend to have poorer volume control, and thus tend to be more fluid-overloaded. With blood diluted by this extra fluid, it does not clot the circuit as easily.

3. Patients who are well nourished tend to have better hemoglobin concentrations (and hematocrits). It is well known that the higher the hemoglobin concentration, the more likely for circuits (and vascular access) to clot.

In summary, while vitamin K may play a role, most likely this is a multi-factorial phenomenon which you observed.

Hope this helps.  (+ info)

Does switching from formula to Vit D milk cause constipation?

Year old, on Vit D milk full-time, we have noticed that he is struggling to poop. His stool is rather hard as well. Is this normal?
----------

i noticed it at first but it always passed with each kid. some prune juice should get things moving along while he gets used to it.
BUT if he isnt a yr yet and he starts having crying fits, quit with the cows milk bc it can cause intestinal bleeding. (we had an experience)
good luck  (+ info)

Why is some apple juice loaded with 120% Vit C and others have 0%?

I don't get it. I've looked at 2 apple juice containers, different brands and one has Vit C and the other has none. How can this be??
----------

Apples are not a source of vitamin C. The juice with 120% has had ascorbic acid added to it.  (+ info)
