What are the long term effects of superficial frostbite?

Yeah so i have been looking on the internet for a while and havnt found anything about my question so if you know anything about it please contact me. thank you
----------

Well the affected part doesn't take cold like it did before in doesn't take near as much cold to make them cold, and even just be cool for an extented time can cuase them to be cold.
Also the feeling of them when they get cold they'll feel like therer burning, colder they are the greaster the burning sensation is. Burning like when ya grab hold of something thats hot. even though it's not hot it'll feelt that way.  (+ info)

Is this a normal reaction to Frostbite?

I managed to get frostbite on my index finger and Thumb, and now a few weeks later both have blistered and the skin has fallen off. It just surprises me since I hadn't even thought about the frostbite in awhile. It was just a very mild case contact case, I got it from turning the ignition in my car.
----------

You're lucky more than that hasn't fallen off. Seriously, sounds like normal healing. If you have open wounds, though, be sure to give your physician a call in the morning. In the meantime, apply triple antibiotic ointment and leave open to air. Sorry to hear how easily you got frostbite. RN  (+ info)

Why does a burn hurt so much more than frostbite?

Don't both injuries kill the nerves in the affected area?
----------

No only third degree burns do nerve damage first degree burns are only surface damage.  (+ info)

Went to do graffiti and it was 17 F and I pushed on the can hard now my finger red & hard do I have frostbite?

Finger was dented from pressing on the can too hard, it was like that for a good 20 mins
It has been 2 hours and it still is hard, red, and hurts.
Tip of finger still red and hard. I also can't feel it.
And drank 1/2 of a 40oz MGD
will that have any effect?
----------

You are a complete idiot. You don't have frostbite but it would be nice if you lost the tip of your finger to keep you from doing this again. :)  (+ info)

What can I do about frostbite?

I have mild frostbite on my fingers after I was walking outside
It's not purple, they look normal but I can tell I have a mild case
Is there anything I should do for it or put on it? Should I see a doctor? And how long will it last about?
----------

i am from alaska, so i know this one:

put it in warm warter and keep it there. not too warm, just cuddly kind of warm. If it swells keep moving it from 15 minutes in medium warm to 15 minutes in tepid water. cover your whole hand in the water. This will use the reflexes of your own blood vessels to pump out lymph and excess blood and so reduce swelling.

always wear good gloves *always* if that hand will be chilled again this winter, and you may get off without the restricted circulation that is common after a frost burn/bite.

good luck

yes, it does hurt  (+ info)

What's the best way to ease the painful, itchy sensation when you have frostbite?

place the affected body part(s) in warm water. Gradually increasing the temperature of the water. If you have frostbite it is better to seek medical attention than self-medicate yourself. The painful, itchy feeling is your skin freezing.  (+ info)

How serious is a deodorant frostbite?

I let some friends give me one and I didn't feel a thing while they did it but now I have a massive red scar and a large blister on my arm.
I am wondering how serious it could be because of the chemicals in deodorant and it's progressed into a third-degree burn. I was also badly sun burnt on the area.
I didn't know how bad it would get until this guy told me...
----------

If you have a third degree burn, you need to seek medical help immediately...third degree burns usually result in nerve damage and can lead to more serious conditions. Chemical burns are also not to be taken lightly.

Please, I cannot stress how important it is, get professional help today!!! You want to eliminate as much long-term damage as you possibly can!  (+ info)

I think I might have a bit of frostbite? How do I tell?

I had to walk most of the way to work and home today, it's about a 45 min walk each way so I was outside for about 2 hrs, and the temp outside was -27 degrees celcius. I bundled up as much as I could but now small patches of my legs are sore with an itchy/burning throb.

Could this be the start of frostbite? What do i do?
----------

Seeing that its on the legs, I wouldn't really think so. Frostbite would first begin in the extremities, such as the ears, fingers, nose, toes. It May be the beginning of frostbite (Frost-nip) if you don't cover those areas correctly however. I wouldn't be exactly sure though.
Btw, loss of feeling in the area would be the beginning of frosbite.
If it doesn't get better, but worse, you'll want to get that checked out!  (+ info)
