sorbitol or fructose intolerance ?

my 18 months old doctor said today the reason why my son might be lose is because of the sweetener sorbitol. so i did a search and found out that it could be a intolerance.

he has a app next week and ill ask them then if this could be the problem, until then ill eliminate all foods with those sweeteners . but I'm not sure which foods/drinks have that in it.

is there a good website that would give me a list of all foods with it in it.
----------

Pretty much any food with artificial sweetner is a variation of sorbitol, especially gums and candys. I haven't found a site with a list yet, and I've had an intolerance for years. I get severe migraines if I so much as look at sorbitol, lol. All diet drinks have it. There hasn't been a lot of research done about the effects of artificial sweetners over a long period of time, it's probably gonna end up finding they are worse for you than regular sugar, lol. But everyone is on such a health kick that it's in practically everything. I just suggest you look at the ingredients list on everything.
Good luck!   (+ info)

Why doesn't crystalline fructose have the same affects as fructose?

I have a condition know as Fructose malabsorption aka Fructose Intolerance. When I have drinks with fructose, fructose corn syrup, or high fructose corn syrup it makes me sick. I drank a vitamin water not knowing its ingredients and it didnt have any affect on me. Vitamin Waters' sweetness comes from its crystalline fructose. I've dranken up to 3 vitamin waters in a day and they still have never made me sick. Can someone explain to me why it doesnt?

Can someone out there give me a list of low fructose foods?

It is becoming more obvious that I am suffering from dietary fructose intolerance – along with glucose intolerance. After eating fruits or preserves or sweetening with honey, I endure very painful, sleepless nights. Sorbitol is downright brutal. I've combed the internet for suggested foods low in fructose (vegetables and fruits, if any). I have found next to nothing. HELP!
----------

Fruits lowest in sugar:

Rhubarb
Strawberries (more about berries on low carb diets)
Cranberries
Raspberries
Blackberries
Blueberries
Grapefruit
Melons
Apricots
Plums
Peaches
Pears
Guava
Cherries
Apples
Papaya

These are fairly high in sugar:

Grapes
Tangerine
Oranges
Pineapple
Kiwi
The following fruits are very high in sugar and generally going to be very infrequent visitors to the low carb diet:

Bananas
Dried Fruit
Mango

Hope this helps!

Lactose AND fructose intolerance!!?

What types of foods are 'safe' for someone who is lactose and fructose intolerant?
----------

Lactose intolerance is easy. Avoid any and all milk products.

Fructose is a little trickier, in that so many products contain fruit sugars.

Since tomatoe is classified a fruit, not sure of its fructose content but it would not be considered a fruit if fructose wasn't present. Amazing how much we consume that has tomatoe as ingredient, including pizza, spaghetti, soups, etc.

Beans, rice, grains, potatoes, eggs, meats/poultry/fish, leafy greens, cruciferous vegies. Can also search out recipes that specify they are vegan, which contain no animal products at all.  (+ info)

To People with Fructose Intolerance?

Hi I think I might have this malabsorption problem, but I was wondering if those who already have it could enlighten me a little. All other informative websites have just listed me symptoms. I think it'll be more clear hearing from other people with the disorder how it's like for them.
I have never been able to take in much sugar. My throat would hurt after eating a few pieces of candy. I can not handle chocolate, but i've grown a tolerance for it. As I grew older eating sweets at certain times would give me the slightest sickening feeling. I also can't eat apples, pears, eggplants (???), and a bunch of other stuff. Sometimes when my stomach is bad i'll have this feeling in stomach like a hole is being drilled there and then i'll get very fatigued. I've been having major digestive problems for who knows what reasons. I was thinking it might be frucotse intolerance?
Thanks to all who respond. I appreciate it immensely.
Also, I have no problems with eating oranges and other fruits.
----------

My daughter was diagnosed by a holistic chiropractor with the inability to metabolize amio acids found in apples, grapes, strawberries, oranges and the more acidic fruits. She was good with berries, tomatoes, rhubarb, peaches and other stone fruits. Once we eliminated these from her diet, her symptoms of seizures and boils stopped. Her medical doctors didn't have a clue. She was off these fruits for years, but gradually she was able to tolerate more and more. She is 12 now, and anytime she gets slightly ill, we stop all these fruits again. She still won't eat apples. I found out that I can tolerate organic apples, but not regular supermarket apples. You might want to do your own dietary testing through organic fruits. Pesticides and fungicides do soak into and absorb through the skins of fruits, past the peels. Some fruits that are more chemically-laden are apples, raisins, fuzzy fruits, and bananas and strawberries.  (+ info)

What is the difference between fructose and sucrose?

I know that fructose is better for health because it is natural, and because it is the type of sugar we find in fruits. On the other hand, we should not consume too many fruits if we don't want to put on weight because of all the sugar that there is in them. Then how is a chocolate bar with fructose better for health than a chocolate bar with sucrose? Is the one with fructose better for health but still likely to make you gain weight?
