Diagnosed with fructose intolerance. How accurate do you think these tests are?

Do you think the tests is accurate? Has anyone had the test and gotten better when eliminating fructose from your diet?
----------

Hey I'm fructose intolerant. I eliminated fructose completely from my diet and my stomach got 10 times better really fast. Same with lactose. See i'm fructose and lactose intolerant and intolerant to all sugars that end in OL (like sorbitol) I also had a hydrogen breath test where they give me fructose and i have to blow air into a bag every 30 minutes for three hours. Which came back positive. All tests are really accurate and it isn't that bad being fructose intolerant.
Hope I helped (:  (+ info)

How do I get from a high metabolism to a normal or steady metabolism?

I'm really skinny and any thing I eat just goes right through me. I can't gain weight. I want to regulate my high metabolism and turn in normal. How can I do this?
----------

It's really hard for us skinny guys to get bigger. I know that. I've tried drinking liquid cream (for whipped cream), eating at McDonalds and I regularly stuffed myself with loads of chocolate and icecream. It didn't matter.

What I've found that works is to eat healthy and eat a lot of protein. That alone doesn't help ofcourse, so I work out as well to gain muscle. I'll never be really buff, but right now I'm leaning towards looking like that guy from Ninja Assassin rather than the skinny pin I used to be.

Don't just pump around with weights, but maybe start participating in a demanding sport. Like martial arts or swimming, biking, sprinting, etc. Whatever gets you really going and has you aching the next morning.

It's simple: people like us don't get fat. So the only way to get bigger is to gain muscle. Work your way up so you don't get burned out in the first few weeks.

Hope that helps.  (+ info)

Is high fructose corn syrup better than artificial sweeteners?

Of course, both are very bad for your health, but people always choose diet products that contain artificial sweeteners to avoid food/drink products sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, but artificial sweeteners are pretty much made with poison.

So when it comes down to it, which is the least detrimental for your health to consume?

When I eat anything with sugar or fructose my fingers and toes will ache inside, am I a diabetic?

When I eat anything with sugar or fructose my fingers and toes will ache inside and moves from one toe/finger to the other for about 2 hrs. I do have hypoglycemia. and now developing food allergies right and left. is it my liver or what?
----------

First things first, go to a doctor.

One of the characteristic symptoms of hypoglicemia is indeed the aches in your finger, but:

1) You should feel the aches continuously for whatever time the hypoglycemia lasts. It should happen in both arms and feet, at least. Also, if you look at your hand carefully, it should be shaking.

2) It shouldn't happen when you EAT sugar. Eating sugar rises the blood sugar level and actually the correct treatment for hypoglycemia.

So, I would be very surprised if what you are dealing with is either diabetes or hypoglycemia. You could try an allergist, not an endocrinologist. That's what I would do if I where you.  (+ info)

What is an excellent way to boost metabolism naturally?

I am in a weight loss competition and I suffer from low metabolism. I am told it is because I have a tendency to skip meals and allow myself to become dehydrated.

What is a great way to help boost my metabolism?
----------

To up your metabolism you need to exercise every day- since it's a competition, I'd do AT LEAST 45 minutes of cardio (I do an hour) and also strength training (weight lifting). Then, as far as eating, eat breakfast, as well as a small meal every 4 hours. As was said, don't eat "white" things (simple, refined carbohydrates). Eat only whole, natural foods. Stay as far away from sugar as possible. Drink only water and green tea (be sure to swish your mouth with water, or better yet brush your teeth afterwards because tea stains your teeth). Don't eat anything within 3 hours of going to sleep at night.

What is the best way to increase my metabolism?

I am 22 and my metabolism is really slowing down. I cant eat the way i use to. What are some good ways to help make my metabolism speed up a little?
----------

Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is
running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic
rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a
reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the
body at rest in such activities.

The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout
the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we
are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of
body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are
less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than
fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time
staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of
the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to
store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains.
How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is
ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or
sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.

Causes for Low Metabolism

* Fasting
* A low calorie diet
* Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas,
cakes, gum).
* Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods.
* Lack of physical activity.
* Underactive thyroid.

Metabolism Boosters

There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that
improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal
thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may
have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive
sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc.

How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism

* Do not skip any meals
* Exercise daily
* Build your muscles
* Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings
*Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
*Eat foods with high nutrition values  (+ info)

Can just drinking water start or keep my metabolism going?

For instance if i wake up and im not hungry but i know i need to start my metabolism is water enough to do that? Or if i had eaten breakfast but wasn't hungry when lunch rolled around can i keep my metabolism going by maybe drinking a 16-20 oz. bottle of water? Thx in advance!
----------

Water is the number one deficiency of Americans today. Many times people feel hungry, but it is the body's reaction to being dehydrated. Fatigue is one of the first symptoms of being dehydrated. If you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated before you get that feeling.

Your metabolism is due to the health of your thyroid and where you get most of your calories. If you get most of your calories from carbohydrates, you will have a slower metabolism. However, if you get most of your calories from fat, you will have a faster metabolic rate. The stored fat in your body secretes a hormone called leptin that determines how you utilize insulin and glucagon. If you are eating a low fat diet as many do, you are not only damaging your body, but you are slowing your metabolism down and will find it more difficult to lose weight due to the "plateauing" that happens as a result of this issue.

Water, along with electrolytes, will contribute greatly to your feeling less fatigue and in that sense, give a boost to your metabolism.

Drinking water first thing in the morning is a very good idea because it stimulates your bowel activity. Only 4% of the water you drink actually gets to the bowels. 60% is eliminated in the kidney, 24% lungs, 12% in perspiration, leaving the 4% for bowels.

The average person needs water at the following rate:

Take your total body weight and divide by 2. That number is the amount of water in ounces that you need to drink each and everyday. Along with that, you should consume 1/4 teaspoon of "air dried sea salt" in conjunction with each quart of water you drink. This puts the electrolytes in your body that will give you proper hydration. The typical white table salt you buy in stores like the Morton Salt, for instance, is terrible for you and has loads of chemicals added. Avoid that junk. If you drink ANY diuretic drinks like, sodas, coffee, tea, alcohol, commercially prepared fruit drinks, energy drinks, etc., these all dehydrate you and you will need to add more water to the total to compensate for the water loss due to these diuretic drinks. Take the total ounces of the diuretic drinks and multiply by 1.5 and add that total to the original total to come up with the proper amount of water you need to drink each day.

good luck to you  (+ info)

How can you make your metabolism faster after starving for 2 weeks?

The starve has already happened (my friend--not me), and she wants to start having 700 calories a day without gaining all the weight back. How can she get back to her normal metabolism?
----------

she should start off with salads, fruits, that sort of thing but gradually build up to adding small portions of meat and other things. 700 calories isn't enough for her to eat long-term, but after a starve it shouldn't be too bad. she needs to get her body into the habit of eating again.

i strongly advise you keep a close eye on her and if she starves herself again, talk to someone about it because she has a problem.  (+ info)
