Recovering from Gastroenteritis, what should I eat?

I am 16 years old and this is the 6th day I have had Gastroenteritis. I'm gradually getting better, I don't have diarrhea anymore but the stools are still quite loose and the abdominal pains are easing. But I don't know what to eat? I'm worried eating the wrong thing may make it worse :S. Thanks.

You need to keep your fluids up more than anything. Drink lots of water, gatorade, berocca, gastrolyte, hydralyte etc.
If you can, try eating nothing but bland stuff. Things like crackers, bananas, rice, dry toast.  (+ info)

This infection is caused by a virus, and you need to see your doctor. You may have to have tests run to rule out a number of other illnesses which could be happening. Some of them you don't want to know, trust me. But make an appointment and see if there is anything you can do. The below link can give you a little bit of information and some home treatments, but always check with your doctor to be sure they are ok to follow. Please take this seriously and get checked.  (+ info)

How long does gastroenteritis last on a 30 year old, without medicine?

Gastroenteritis, unlike what we call the "stomach flu" is usually caused by bacteria or parasites in spoiled food or unclean water, although some virus infections also result in gastroenteritis. The severity of infectious gastroenteritis depends on your immune system’s ability to resist the infection.

Doctors usually don’t give antibiotics until bacteria have been identified. Otherwise, using any antibiotic or the wrong antibiotic can worsen some infections or make them last longer.

Gastroenteritis caused by viruses generally last 1-2 days. On the other hand, bacterial cases can last a week or more.

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is the main health danger from gastroenteritis. You will need solid foods eventually to help end the diarrhea. After 24 hours, begin to eat bland foods (like on the BRAT diet) —bananas, rice, applesauce without sugar, toast, pasta, or potatoes.  (+ info)
