I will marriage a man has a gilbert disease how will this affect me and my sons?

First of all ,it`s not an infectious disease.

-Gilbert's (zheel-BAYRZ) syndrome is a common, mild liver disorder in which the liver doesn't properly process a substance called bilirubin. Bilirubin is produced by the breakdown of red blood cells.
Gilbert's syndrome is caused by an inherited gene mutation. You're born with Gilbert's syndrome, though it often goes undiscovered for many years.
Gilbert's syndrome is often discovered by accident, such as when you have a blood test that shows elevated bilirubin levels. Gilbert's syndrome typically doesn't require treatment and doesn't cause serious complications.
Gilbert's syndrome is also known as constitutional hepatic dysfunction, benign unconjugated bilirubinemia and familial nonhemolytic jaundice.

-How the abnormal gene is passed through families
The abnormal gene that causes Gilbert's syndrome is common. Many people carry one copy of this abnormal gene. Two abnormal copies are needed to cause Gilbert's syndrome. If two people who each carry one copy of the abnormal gene have a child, they may pass along the genetic defect that causes Gilbert's syndrome.

So, it won`t affect you and your sons at all.  (+ info)

Is there any correlation between Gilbert's disease and chronic constipation?

Gastrointestinal effects from Gilbert's disease are not common. The literature does not list constipation as being an issue. Gilbert's disease can make some people more sensitive to side effects from some medications, however, so constipation can be a medication side effect.
My advice: drink adequate fluid, take in adequate fiber, and get more physical activity... that all helps with bowel regularity.  (+ info)

I will marry a man has a gilbert disease how will this affect me and my sons?

Your husband and their step-dad will have dark wee.

My husband has that condition; it is really of no consequence other than the dark urine, something to do with bilirubin from the liver not processing bile pigments properly. The liver is still healthy though.

Does anyone know much about gilbert disease?

I have been told that i have this condition and would like to know more.
----------

Gilbert's (pronounced 'jeelbear') syndrome is relatively common and affects around one in 50 people, usually from teenage years onwards. It was first described by the French physician Gilbert in 1907 and is an inherited condition. Men are affected twice as often as women.

It's usually discovered by chance during blood tests examining the function of the liver, as it's uncommon for Gilbert's syndrome to cause any symptoms. It's identified when these blood tests show raised levels of a substance called bilirubin.

Bilirubin is a greenish-yellow pigment produced as waste when the haemoglobin in blood is recycled. It's made in the liver and excreted in bile. People with Gilbert's syndrome have a deficiency of one of the enzymes needed for this process, so slightly more bilirubin than normal appears in the blood.

Possible problems

Although in general it doesn't cause any symptoms, bilirubin levels can rise during times of stress, fever, fasting, surgery or after drinking alcohol. Under these circumstances, someone with Gilbert's syndrome may temporarily become a little jaundiced.

No treatment is needed for the syndrome. However, if you ever have more tests or need to go into hospital, make sure the doctors are aware that you have it.

Gilbert's disease/syndrome.....??

I went to the dr. today for a follow-up and he told me I had Gilbert's disease... He said not to worry about it, it's not harmful, but didn't tell me exactly what it was..

Can you explain what it is, what causes it, does anything make it better??
----------

I have Gilbert's Syndrome. It is a fairly common liver disorder hitting about 5% of people whereby the liver over-produces an enzyme called billirubin. Common symptoms are mild jaundice and forgetting to eat or not being hungry. Basically the diagnosis does nothing to you. Some say you can poison yourself a little more (i.e. drink) because billirubin is essential in cleaning the blood, which is a bonus, though I've never seen any literature averring that statement.

Basically the diagnosis tells doctors your liver is not failing when they do a hepatic screen. If your billirubin numbers were like ours but we didn't have Gilbert's, we'd be going into organ failure.  (+ info)

Gilbert's disease & being bipolar?

I know someone who says they have Gilberts disease and are Bipolar but I'm not sure what either are, does anyone know?

He also said that with having Gilberts disease he cannot smoke cannabis or take any drugs or be near anyone who is as it makes him psychotic, it concerns me, I don't take drugs but have friends who smoke cannabis & am not sure of the outcome if he's near them? Can anyone tell me about any of this & what these conditions are?
----------

Gilbert's disease is a condition that affects your liver function.
In reality apart from a tendency to feel tired occasionally it doest really affect you. It does mean that certain drugs are off limits to you though.
It has no connection with bi-polar disorders which have been explained above  (+ info)

I have elevated bilirubin, also known as gilberts disease. Does this mean alcohol is harder to metabolize?

I have elevated bilirubin, also known as gilberts disease. Does this mean that alcohol (beer) will stay in my system longer than other people because its harder to break down.
----------

It mans everything is harder to metabolize. Alcohol is unrecognizable to your liver which makes it so damaging. But increased bilirubin means, your liver is not metabolizing anything with ease.  (+ info)
