How early can gingival recession occur from using Snus tobacco?

I just recently started using the new smokeless tobacco product Snus. I have heard that it can cause gingival recession. I am not a consistent user. I use about two packets a day about 3-4 days a week. Sometimes I do not even use all week. How early can gingival recession occur? Please let me know. I use tobacco as a stress-reliever, having a huge amount of stress in my life. Please be serious about the answers, I will report any inappropriate answers. Thank you very much.
----------

Andrew, Yes snus can and does cause recession. The tobacco in the snus causes the capillaries to constrict, decreasing blood flow, which can and does cause the tissue to recede. As stated before, snus use is strongly related to mouth cancer. This is a very messy cancer that typically causes disfiguring destruction to the mouth. Please, find another way to relieve your stress. Small white patches where you use the snus are actually precancerous changes! Stopping NOW will greatly reduce your risks. Good Luck, Dr. Dan  (+ info)

What is the difference between hyperplasia and dysplasia- and can anyone give me a reference for it?

I can't seem to find a book or journal article that specifically defines the difference between dysplasia and hyperplasia- any help would be much appreciated!
----------

Hyperplasia is a general term referring to the proliferation of cells within an organ or tissue beyond that which is ordinarily seen

Dysplasia is a term used in pathology to refer to an abnormality of development.

Hyperplasia = excessive normal cells which are benign.
Dysplasia = excessive abnormal cells which can become malignant.  (+ info)

What are they symptoms of a ruptured Focal Nodular Hyperplasia?

I was diagnosed with Focal nodular hyperplasia, which is a type of benign tumor on the liver. I've been having a lot of pain lately. Along with tingling sensations that just started today. I was wondering if anyone knew the symptoms of a ruptured Focal nodular hyperplasia. I can't find any info online about it. Thanks so much.
----------

Pain is the only symptom. If you look under
"presentation"of this web page, you will see it mentioned.
I definitely would have it checked out right away. From the second article that
talks about rupture...it is very rare.

Usually what symptoms a patient has
with a tumor, will only increase if there
becomes a problem with it.

Wish I could tell you more.  (+ info)

Are fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia or polyps a precursor to cancer?

I'm 44 and had heavy menstrual bleeding. Ultrasounds and MRI showed three small fibroids, focal complex hyperplasia and polyps. I've been trying natural remedies which have improved menses dramatically, no longer heavy, nor as painful. Should I still have hysteroscopy or other procedure done, or does the resolution of symptoms mean I'm OK?
----------

Not a precursor to cancer. Chances are the pain and bleeding will return. Interuterine scraping is another option, but I hear it is painful and not always effective. Hysterectomy may be another option for you if you just want to be done all together.  (+ info)

Can anybody tell me how effective a gingival graft is?

I am considering a free gingival graft to add tissue to an exposed lower tooth. If you or someone you know has had this procedure done, how effective was it at covering up the exposed area? Also, how painful was the procedure and are you satisfied?
----------

I and many others have come to believe that gum disease comes from bacteria and imbalances in the mouth. I have been able to heal gums and tootheaches and unfilled cavities. I took a water pik(they are generrally about $60) and an antibacterial solution of some sort. I like using Xylitol(you can find at most health food stores) as an antibacterial lately.

I started on a mild setting and found which areas were sensitive or bleeding. I used it about once to twice a week. Even after just two uses the teeth and gums become much less sensitive and I was able to turn up the power of the jet. It might not be the same for you, but for me it is always worth trying anything that activated the body into healing itself than to force, cut, burn, or poison which is usually very temporary.  (+ info)

How would you prevent intimal hyperplasia?

Intimal hyperplasia is the universal response of a vessel to injury and is an important reason of late bypass graft failure, particularly in vein and synthetic vascular grafts.
----------

Low dose beta radiation seems to be a goer.
Antioxidants seem not to be useful.

Femoropopliteal PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) bypass with distal AS interposition provides improved graft patency and limb salvage rates when compared with those published in the literature for PTFE bypass without the (distal arterial segment) AS.  (+ info)

What is atypical hyperplasia of the breast?

Mine is not cancerous, but can it turn into cancer, and what can I do to prevent it from turning into cancer. Right now they have me on tomxafin.
----------

You're already doing what you should do, taking the tomixafin. Atypical hyperplasia means that the cells are abnormal, but not cancerous. It does put you at a higher risk in developing cancer. If you have family history that raises the risk. But because you've discovered this you will be monitoring very closely and if indeed something turns up, you'll be ready. Tomixafin is the treatment of choice because it works...so try not to worry too much.  (+ info)

What is the recovery period from gingival grafting surgery?

What can you recommend for my benign prostatic hyperplasia besides drugs?

I have been diagnosed of having BPH. I have this condition for about ten years now. I take saw palmetto and pygeum africanum. They seem to be working because my urination, while of low "caliber", has not gone worse. But I still experience "dribbling" at the end of my urination. Can you recommend other effective supplements?
----------

Good thing I saw your question, your symptoms call for the Homeopathic remedy CONIUM MAC in 1M potency take it once a week for atleast 3 weeks(3 Doses) and please keep me posted about your progress. It would be lots better if you can post your complete details and symptoms which you are feeling. But as far as I see it just CONIUM MAC will cure you 100% without any side effects or complications. To read about the said remedy please click the link and read carefully :- http://homeoint.org/books/boericmm/c/con-m.htm

Can you use Saw Palmetto for horses with similar symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia?

There is a horse at my barn who urinates up to 12 times before noon, and we have noticed that his case resembles prostate issues. Saw Palmetto was recommended by a doctor for prostate, so why not for a horse?
----------

What is recommended for humans may not be recommended for animals. You need to talk to a vet to get the answers you need.  (+ info)
