what is the % prognosis of oligodendro glioma II,after operation and radiotherapy. How long life patients live?

The morbidity and mortality profile for oligodendrogliomas is much better than for astrocytic tumors. However, it also depends on tumor location and pressure effects, as with any other intracranial lesion. The median survival from initial diagnosis of all low-grade oligodendrogliomas (LGOs) is 4-10 years, but it is only 3-4 years for anaplastic oligodendrogliomas.  (+ info)

does anyone have any info on glioma brain tumors ?

i was just wondering if anyone knew what symtoms they might cause.
----------

"Symptoms of gliomas depend on which part of the central nervous system is affected. A brain glioma can cause headaches, nausea and vomiting, seizures, and cranial nerve disorders as a result of increased intracranial pressure. A glioma of the optic nerve can cause visual loss. Spinal cord gliomas can cause pain, weakness or numbness in the extremities. Gliomas do not metastasize by the bloodstream, but they can spread via the cerebrospinal fluid and cause "drop metastases" to the spinal cord."  (+ info)

Are there any brain cancer(glioma) survivors here?

Or do you know any? What does it take to survive this type of cancer?
----------

My cousin has glioblastoma multiforme. He is 48 years old. As soon as we found out he was rushed to the Miami Neurosciene Center, where he first had it removed by Dr. Azik Wolf (excellent neurosurgeon) and treated first with stereotactic radiosurgery and chemo.
It's been 14 months, he is as good as you can expect from a person suffering from this, but his prognosis remains unknown. Thing is, most brain tumors come back, so what we are doing is this.
Follow every indication from his neurosurgeon, oncologist, thrombosis specialist (chemo made him develop leg thrombosis) and therapist.
We pray every single day, faith has a lot to do in recovering.
We spend as much time together with him as we can, as a family.
Try to make him eat as healthy as possible.
Walk with him whenever possible.
And hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
What does it take? Commitment, strenght, patience, faith....  (+ info)

If diagnosed with a low grade glioma, does that mean you can never drive a car?

UK - This is from the DVLA website:

Gliomas
If you had a WHO grade 1 or 2 Glioma (known as Low Grade Gliomas), you cannot drive for one year dating from completion of the primary treatment of the tumour. After this period, your situation will be reviewed by the DVLA. Examples of Low Grade Glioma’s are Oligodendroglioma’s and Ependymoma’s. If you have had an incidental finding of a Low Grade Glioma and you are asymptomatic and have not undergone any treatment for it, the case can be considered on an individual basis and you may be allowed to drive sooner.  (+ info)

Surgery or not for a glioma patient at the age of 77?

Several days ago, my mom was diagnosed as glioma by CT and MRI. But the doctor cannot tell the glioma is at what grade level before they do surgery. Some doctor says that glioma at the age of over 70 is generally grade 3 or above. Is this true? If we don't do the surgery, what can we do now?

I'm afraid a glioma is the worst type of brain tumor to have, and it is impossible to remove all of it, no matter what stage it is. Fortunately, the patient won't have to suffer long; it kills more rapidly than any other kind of brain tumor.
If I was the patient, I'd refuse all treatment, get my affairs in order, see the people I'd want to see, and do a few things for fun while I still could.  (+ info)

Homeopathic Treatment for Brain Tumor: -

ARSENICUM ALBUM 200C 1st night one dose
PHOSPHORUS 200C 2nd night one dose
To be carried on exactly in the same sequence one night one dose of Arsenic Album the next Phosphorus and follow them up every four hourly with these Cell Salts
1.KALI PHOS 6X
2.CALC FLOUR 6X
3.CALC PHOS 6X
4,MAG PHOS 6X
5.SILICEA 6X
All of these five salts together 4 tablets each every four hours. This prescription will not interfere with the regular medication nor will they cause any side effects or complications of any sort. In homeopathy the best way to prescribe is by the exact symptoms the patient tells you. How and what the sick person exactly feels is how homeopathy goes about treating and curing him. So it would be lots better if the patient gives his or her details in their own words not the pathological diagnosis of the doctor. Keep me informed about the progress and conditions of the patient on regular basis if you decide to take this prescription. Avoid Chocolates, Coffee, Mints, Red Meat and Carbonated and Alcoholic drinks while taking Homeopathic Medicines and keep the medicines away from heat, sunlight, fragrances and scents and do not store in a fridge and keep the lids tightly on at all the times
Take Care and God Bless you.  (+ info)

what is a glioma anaplasticoligodenroglioma tumod?

this is a tumor on the brain
----------

It is a type of brain cancer. It is rapidly growing and surgery may be helpful in removing PART of it. It depends on where in the brain it is locater (usually at the base of the brain near the neck) The surgeon hase to be very careful not to touch the brain stem as tha can have deadly results. That is also why only part of it can be removed. Chemo may help but most don't cross the blood/brain brrier. Radiation is helpful. The long term prognosis is not good for this type of tumor be then agin everybody has different results. My sister has cancer and the university of minnesota told her it was nontreatable and she went to MD Anderson in Hoston (the best cancer treatment center in the world) and is alive, in remission 2 years later!  (+ info)

what is a glioma anaplasticoligodenroglioma tumor?

Do you mean "Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma"?
Oligodendrogliomas are a type of glioma that are believed to originate from the oligodendrocytes of the brain or from a glial precursor cell. They occur primarily in adults (9.4% of all primary brain and central nervous system tumors) and are only rarely found in children (4% of all primary brain tumors). The median age of diagnosis for oligodendroglioma is 41 years of age.
Oligodendrogliomas are among the most benign gliomas. They affect mainly the cerebral cortex, particularly the frontal lobes.  (+ info)
