NEW HOPE FOR PATIENTS WITH BRAIN TUMORS
Malignant brain tumors (gliomas) can rarely be cured by surgery and/or radiotherapy alone. Chemotherapy, as generally available, has been of limited value.

Dr. Isaac Djerassi has perfected a form of intensive chemotherapy which is proving to be the most effective treatment for brain gliomas. Among 200 patients with brain glioma, treated by his method, 70% have shown substantial reduction or disappearance of their tumors, with marked improvement of their symptoms and prolonged survival. Eighteen of 57 (31%) patients with advanced and terminal Grade III or near Grade III Glioblastoma were alive at 10 to 28 years with a median of over 10 years. Four of the 18 long-term survivors received this chemotherapy alone with no radiation therapy at all. Higher success rates are expected in recently diagnosed and previously untreated patients in good general condition. The destruction of gliomas in 70% of the patients treated with high-dose methotrexate is illustrated below with the MRI pictures of the brain in a patient with malignant glioma taken before and after treatment. In a series of 79 patients who had MRI or CT scan observable cancers, 52 patients (70.9%) had their cancers shrink in size. These results were reported to the profession in 1988. (See References).

what rules has rudolf breuss cure for guys with glioma 4? ive been operated 3.5 weeks ago.?

He sells books. That's it . . no evidence of 'cure' for any type of cancer. He gets wealthy from everyone who buys his books because they are desperate enough . . this type of book selling where the author promises 'cures' is all over the place on the Internet . . these authors are cashing in . . patients want desperately to believe that a 'cure' is simple enough to be found in a book and so they buy it because they feel 'they have nothing to lose'. No scientific evidence exists that Breuss's diet has ever 'cured' anyone from cancer. Unfortunately there have also been deaths due to the diet. There are no laws to protect the consumer against this type of misinformation because all Breuss really offers is his 'opinion'.  (+ info)

I am in need of help my granddaughter has just been diagnoed with Brain Stem Glioma.?

There is a doctor in Houston TX that can help us with treatment. We are in need of funds to get there if you can help in any way please call my daughter @ 360-213-6427 and let her know if you can help in any way. My daughter's name is Jessica and my granddaughter name is Mary PLEASE HELP US AND THANK YOU
----------

I'm so sorry that your sweet Mary has to go through this. Please check the link below for help with transportation. It is Angel Flight, a Christian organization that gives free transportation to people like Mary.

If you live in a small area, you can check with the local churches or even call the airport to ask the names of some of the pilots that do charity flights for Angel Flight. Sometimes it is much quicker to go directly to the source than it is to deal with large organizations.

Ronald McDonald House can help you find a place to stay near the hospital. You can do a web search or ask at the hospital in Houston.

Best Wishes.  (+ info)

I had my tubes tied. I lost my last baby to brain tumor. Is in vitro the only way for me to have another baby?

I had my tubes tied when my last child was born. At the age of 4, she passed away from a pontine glioma. (brainstem cancer). I am considering having another child. I am not sure how to go about it. To try to get my tubal reversed, or try invitro fertilization... I am also curious as to the cost of such a procedure, as we are not rich people and insurance won't cover it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
----------

I am so sorry to hear of your loss . . .

You are right - IVF or tubal ligation reversal are your only options. I would start by contacting a fertility specialist. They can check your tubes and help you to decide which is the best option based on your situation.

Tubal reversal tends to be in the $5000+ area . . . a benefit to this option is that you will have cycle after cycle to try for a baby. IVF tends to be $10,000+ (many people that I personally know were $16,000 area) and many couples only have one chance at it. There are some shared risk programs that you might want to research where they will help to cover the cost of meds or future cycles if the first one does not take.

Here is a good website for info:

Best wishes to you!!!  (+ info)

What are the advantages of MRI for guidance in operating suit?

More specifically, when performing the resection of glioma?
----------

It allows the surgeon to see exactly where the tumor is, which can be difficult in areas where the tumor is not palpable. It enables them to do a more precise surgery with the least amount of trauma to the surrounding areas and to the patient in general.   (+ info)

Brain stem glioma????

can u explain what this is and how it is caused to me please??????
thanks.
----------

Brain stem glioma is a cancerous tumor that involves the brainstem which is located at the very center of the brain. First symptoms can be mild and contributed to other disorders. An MRI is used to diagnose a brainstem glioma. Unless it is caught very early, radiation and chemo will not really help. Symptoms can get worse gradually or get worse by leaps and bounds. Throwing up for no reason often is one of the signs of a well progressed tumor. Because of the location of it it will cut off the spinal fluid surrounding the brain stem causing severe nausea. Crossing of the eyes, often mistaken for lazy eye is another symptom. Slurred speech, clumsyness and enlarged head are early symptoms as well. A brain stem glioma affects mainly motor skills but can also affect learning skills as well. In the latter stages of this glioma, symptoms progress rapidly which can include seizures, difficulty swallowing, loss of muscle movement, etc. A baby can be born with a brain stem glioma and the only way it is suspected at birth is the baby may be born with knots on their skin. Brain stem glioma is slightly hereditary but for the most part is just one of those unfortunate things that happens. If a parent, child or sybling is diagnosed with a brain stem glioma, it is said that close blood relatives run a little higher risk of suffering from one themselves. A brain tumor can be suspected if the nerve in the back of the eye is seen to be swollen and if it is even a small chance that someone can have a brain tumor, by all means please get it checked just to make sure.  (+ info)

Is there a non-profit organization for this?

I know there are organizations for cancer, and brain tumors, and breast cancer. But I was wondering if there is one for a specific kind of brain tumor. It is called pontine diffuse brainstem glioma. It mainly effects kids and my friend just lost his 10 year old brother to it. If there are no organizations to raise money for this specific type of brasin tumor. I would love to start one. I need your help finding out if there is one or not.
