How is IV fuilds helping a dog with kidney disease?

I am curious about the process of injecting a dog that has kidney disease with IV fluids. I understand it helps, but how does the fluids make their way from under the skin to the blatter and flushes the kidneys in the meantime?
----------

The fluids are given subcutaneous, which means the fluids are given under the skin. Then the body slowly absorbs the fluids and they get flushed out through the kidneys which help get rid of toxin build up in the kidneys. I did this with my cat for two years and it really helped.  (+ info)

Is it dangerous for women with von Willebrand's disease type 2A to get pregnant?

I am doing some research on this hereditary bleeding disorder and I'm trying to find the answer to this question. I'm curious to know if it is too dangerous for women with von Willebrand's disease type 2A (the more serious form of the disease) to endure childbirth. Also, should women with this disease avoid getting pregnant because it is frequently passed down through parents to children?
----------

Whether or not someone chooses to have a baby due to the fact that they may pass on the gene is totally up to them. I won't go so far as to say they are not allowed or shouldn't do it. If they choose to do it, it's their choice and I won't judge them at all.

As for getting pregnant, and giving that's completely possible. Many women with von Willebrand's actually show some improvement in their condition because the hormones during pregnancy increase many clotting factors. Also, natural birth is completely possible.

I found this for you:

There are some dangers, but if the OBGYN and hematologist work together it can be managed quite effectively.

Do a search on Google for "von Willebrand's disease and pregnancy" and you will find more information than you'll know what to do with.  (+ info)

Type A mom can have a healthy type B baby. Why doesn’t the baby develop a hemolytic disease type of response?

I understand Hemolytic disease only pertains to Rh antigen, BUT I don't understand why there isn't a similar type of reaction when a mom is carrying a baby of a different ABO blood group.

Here's a great website which describes blood typing in detail. I hope it helps!

What type of disease/infection can you get from animals by eating meat?

I eat meat thats fully cooked and well done but I'm still worried that I could get a disease from the animal that it came from. Can we really trust the animals are healthy and well taken care of at the place they are raised and slaughtered?
----------

Yes, there is mad cow diesese and the bird flu, but your all forgetting the biggest one of all! You could get Vocanalisticicitis, (VO-can-alis-TI-CYT-itIS), which is a deisese that you get from cows. When the cows eat grass, there is always bacteria, and this is a bacteria nobody knows how to rid of yet. The symptoms are dying skin, red blotches, neusea, headache, stomachache, bloating, symptoms of dehydration, and diahrea.  (+ info)

What type of diet may contribute to gall bladder disease?

I've heard of the "3 F's", fat, forty and female. But none of the people I know who have had gall bladder disease fall under these catagories. One thing that seems to be a trigger is rapid weight loss (okay, maybe "fat" does fit the profile). But I was just wondering about the overall effects of diet in general.
----------

Actually it's the "4-F's" you left out fertile. Pregnancy is also a risk factor. Actually risk factors include: oral-contraceptive use (or high estrogen in general), Family history (genetics), Increased triglycerides, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, spinal cord injuries, prolonged fasting state, inactivity, certain drugs (like a common antibiotic ceftriaxone), Crohn's disease, diseases that turn over red blood cells rapidly (genetic diseases and very common sickle cell anemia). I'm sure there's more but these are off the top of my head. Generally foods in HIGH saturated fats, low fiber, low calcium, and low vitamin C seem to have the highest risk factors. By the way, a study of 46,000 people who drank 2 or more cups of coffee per day had a 40% less chance of developing gallstones or sludge.

Doc  (+ info)

What type of disease could result from chronic tiredness?

i am always tired, I don't think it's really normal. I could sleep the whole day if you let me. I have tried things like sleeping less or sleeping more, but I am still tired and weak. is there any kind of disease that that could result from? I have already been tested negative for anemia.
----------

So many things can cause fatigue. Some have been covered here. Mono, Lyme disease, lupus, celiac disease or any malabsorption issue, thyroid issues, etc. Apnea or some other sleep disorder is an excellent suggestion, by the way!

I have celiac and I also happen to have Lyme right now. When my celiac was active I was NOT anemic, but was still very tired all the time (so do look into that and consider getting tested if any of the symptoms seem to fit or you have a family member with celiac). Lyme has not been a lot of fun either... I sleep and sleep and it is never enough, but with Doxycycline I am feeling better.
You will need more testing to help determine what is going on with you, I wish you luck, a tenacious Dr. who won't give up or tell you that you are "depressed" to make you go away so s/he doesn't have to admit that they don't know, and a speedy diagnosis.
And I am serious about not taking the "you are depressed diagnosis" seriously. If they ever say that and you know you are not depressed just say,"Oh, I understand. That means you don't know what is happening and now you want to blame it on me. Well, thank you for your time, I am getting a second opinion now." and leave.  (+ info)
