I am 34 and i have a Thyroid Goiter i was wondering how often this turns out to be cancer?

How does hyperthyroidism lead to goiter formation?

Can someone explain this to me?
----------

I can't answer your question, as I myself have been searching the internet on answers for thyroid cysts. I had a car accident a few weeks ago, and with all the MRI's, CT's, and Myleogram, that is how they found the 'growth?' on my left thyroid lobe.
If you are able to find out anything regarding your question, please pass it on to me so I know where to find an answer. I'm going in this Thursday for a biopsy. (Hopefully negative)
But good luck with your search.  (+ info)

what would be the possible effects and complications of hyperthyroidsm, multinodular goiter to my baby?

i'm 29 year old and was dignosed to have hyperthyroidsm, multinodular goiter. i havn't started any medications yet. i just found out that i'm a couple of weeks pregnant. i'm scared of what my disease could cause my baby.
----------

I am not an expert by all means, however I do Have a son that has a thyroid condition that has been since birth. Since there are several types of this disorder, find out exactly what it is and what the treatments are. Tell your doctor you are pregnant, NOW!!!. I heard there are risks in exposing your child to radiation under 20 weeks gestation. I would also find out if this is a cause of your iodine intake. I would also check with your local and state regulations as to the newborn screening tests and make sure your baby is tested for both hypo and hyperthyroidism AT BIRTH!!!  (+ info)

What is the difference between hypo and hyperthyroidism, also what causes goiter?

Hypothyroidism means that the thyroid gland produces less hormones, hyperthyroidism means it produces too much. Goiter referrs to an enlarged thyroid, regardless of it's activity, the most common cause is iodine deficiency, though, other things might cause it.  (+ info)

What dose of synthroid is administered to reduce goiter or tumor?

swollen thyroid gland, but all bloodwork for Thyroid shows normal.
currently on estrogen and a smoker.
----------

Normal isn't always normal. The ranges at most labs are outdated for their thyroid levels. Many labs have the range as 0.3 to 5.5. AACE recommends treatment at a TSH of 3.0 and some other sources say a 2.0 with symptoms should be treated. Also, TSH should always be done in the morning as TSH is highest while we sleep so testing first thing in the morning is the best time to test.

Find out what your TSH was and the time of day it was done. Other tests besides TSH you shiuld have done if you have a goiter is Free T4, Free T3, and an antibody test. If one of these are off, you may be given thyroid medication that may shrink the goiter. Most doctors will start you on 50 mcg's of T4.

If you show you are hypothyroid, keep track of your blood levels until you get that TSH around 1.0 or to where you feel good and the goiter has shrunk  (+ info)

How might your diet, lifestyle or environment lead to Goiter?

----------

Umm.... that's because you get a goiter when you have a condition where the thyroid gland overproduces hormones (or under produces).

I hate having this big goiter on my neck and im thinking of cutting it off. I have the mini chainsaw oiled, I opened up a garbage bag on the ground to collect the after cut, and I put a stool in the middle to sit on. I taped a mirror on the wall for navigation also. I have a bottle of peroxide, gauze, and some medical tape for afterwards. You think I should?

Nodular goiter, an impediment for Australian migration?

I have nodular goiter, a case where I have a node on my thyroid gland. I had it checked and it was diagnosed to be benign and I now take medicines to help it shrink. I'm just worried since I'll be submitting my application forms for permanent resident visa in Australia soon. Do you know if my Nodular Goiter will cause some problems or will result Australian visa rejection?

Thanks!

You are safe this is not something you can give to anyone its your body and this stays with you .  (+ info)
