pyogenic granuloma?

is there anybody who has or has had pyogenic granuloma. my son got it and now he thinks to remove it it will be painful. but i told him many people have had it. and it is not painful or dangerus to have it taken care of. he was also wondering if there was a medicine for it.
----------

Most pyogenic granulomas are scraped off with an instrument called a curette and lightly cauterized to decrease the chance they will re-grow. An injection of local anesthesia is required (lidocaine is used-similar to Novocaine). Some doctors prefer to treat with chemicals (TCA, podophyllin, phenol, silver nitrate). Laser surgery can also be done but has not been proven to be superior. The highest cure rates are obtained when the growth is removed by full thickness surgical excision, and closed with stitches.  (+ info)

Has anyone had a pyogenic granuloma?

Has anyone had a pyogenic granuloma? I seem to be at a dead end as far as help. I have had it cut off twice and it has grown back both times. I believe that I now have it under control. I am currently using silver nitrate but it is very painful and I develop a lot of drainage from it. Has anyone had one successfully go away by using silver nitrate? How did you use it? How do you know when to stop using it? The pyogenic granuloma is on the tip of my left thumb.

It is not rare for a PG to resprout after removal. The use of the silver nitrate is an easy way to treat them, but if they are stubborn, then either curetting and desiccating the base, or laser surgery, will yield a higher cure rate.  (+ info)

What to do about my Pyogenic Granuloma?

3 weeks ago I had a pregnancy related Pyogenic Granuloma removed from my upper lip using the shave removal technique and cauterized with silver nitrate. It grew back to be 1/2 an inch wide one week later. Two days ago I had it removed with a pulse dye laser and am waiting to see for when it falls off. I am due with my first child in 2 days and my doctor said that if I chose to breastfeed then that would increase the chances of the granuloma regrowing (breastfeeding keeps pregnancy hormone levels elevated which increases chances of regrowth?)

What are the chances of this thing regrowing a second time after laser therapy?
Should I not breastfeed since this growth had started to take over my upper lip?
Is there any thing I can do to lower my hormone levels?
What is the most effective method of removal therapy for these stubborn vascular legions?
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

You have already done the two most common forms of treatment for this growth. And, although they are commonly seen in pregnancy, they also can occur not only in non-pregnant conditions, but also in males. And, frequently, they tend to have a "root" structure, in that they tend to spread out beyond the area that shows on the skin. In those cases, it's very common for them to resprout, even though the clinical growth has been treated and destroyed. So, having said this, go ahead and breast feed; that really is not the determinging factor on whether this lesion recurs or not. And, if it does recur, then go ahead and retreat it again, either with the PDL laser or with electrodesiccation and curettage. (There will be less chance of scarring with the laser.)  (+ info)

Pyogenic granuloma?

Have any of you had one of these caused by pregnancy? If so, what did you do? Did anyone just wait it out until after delivery? How long did it take to go away? I have one on my face that is REALLY bothering me. Just curious if anyone else out there has been in my shoes and what happened. Thanks so much!
----------

Ya, that is not fun...This can be caused by any thing, trauma mainly...it is just coincident that you got one while pregnant...They can be rather bloody...It is OK to have it taken off while pregnant...they use local anesthetic which does not harm the fetus...but remember they have a tendency to come back...good luck...  (+ info)

How do I get rid of a granuloma on a nose piercing?

I got my nose pierced and a granuloma formed, and I have no idea how to get rid of it.
----------

You might have a condition called a "keloid". It is an exaggerated scar from skin piercing, seen often in patients of african descent, but can occur in any race. I suggest you refrain from body piercings and tattoos, and go to a dermatologist... Good luck!

What is my chance with calcified granuloma?

The heart doctor found calcified granuloma in my left lung at the base of it and in the lingula. What is it and is it harmful to me? I don't know what it is or where I got it.
Will it cause me to have trouble breathing and so forth?
----------

From all the reading and case histories I can find most of them are harmless. Make sure you continue to question your doctors in addition to any information found here.

"A granuloma is a medical condition characterized by a noncancerous inflammation in the tissue. Typically, a granuloma encompasses only a small part of the tissue. For the most part, a person with a granuloma does not experience any signs or symptoms. In fact, most granulomas are found through an x-ray that is performed for unrelated reasons. When found during an x-ray examination, the granuloma is often mistaken for cancer.

The majority of granulomas are the result of an injury to the tissue, particularly as the result of infection. In some cases, a granuloma may occur in the lungs as well. In fact, the most common cause of granuloma is a fungal infection in the lungs, which is called histoplasmosis. Other conditions associated with a granuloma formation include berylliosis, syphilis, sarcoidosis, Crohn’s disease, tuberculosis, Churg-Strauss syndrome, and Wegener’s granulomatosis.

The granuloma that forms as the result of these conditions is generally a calcified granuloma. This type of granuloma contains deposits of calcium and usually takes time to develop. Therefore, most granulomas have been present in the body for a very long time before they are identified."  (+ info)
