Does anyone have Granuloma Annulare?

Can anyone offer any personal experiences with Granuloma Annulare? I have it on my elbows and wondering if someone else who has experienced it knows what triggers it for them? NOT looking for links to information on the web about it...just information from those who may have experienced this condition. Thanks!

I have it, and have for about 18 years, off & on, just on my elbows. About a year ago I started getting red circles on my hands. I used the steroid cream I had for my elbows, but it didn't help.

A visit to the Dermatologist confirmed it was Granuloma Annulare. She gave me steroid shots right into the rash. That was about 3 weeks ago, and I think the rash is fading. I've also got spots starting on my feet & ankles.

The Dr told me that most causes are unknown. In some cases, Diabetes or a Thyroid condition could trigger it. The Dr also told me the rash can come & go, or last for years & years, or may never go away.  (+ info)

I have been diagnosed with Granuloma annulare.?

A rash in a circular pattern (like ringworm but not) and some bumpy itchy areas particularily in my scalp. Any cures out there? Everything I read says it's not itchy but mine is. Also no cure is known. Any help would be appreciated.

Your dermatologist may prescribe a steroid cream to apply, or inject steroids directly into the spot to help it disappear faster. Steroids can thin the skin and should be used according to your dermatologist's directions.

PUVA is a special kind of ultraviolet light therapy. It is sometimes used for people with widespread disease under the close supervision of a dermatologist. The major side effect of PUVA is sunburn-type reactions. Other oral medications may be indicated  (+ info)

treating granuloma annulare.?

I have granuloma annulare. I've had the steriod injections but they didn't really help. I was just wondering if their is any other type of medicine or herbal thing I could try.

There are sporadic reports of biologic agents working for it, such as enbrel. Also , other systemic medications have been known to help, but the side effect proflle of some of these medications is not worth the treatment. Occasionally a topically applied cortisone with occlusion, such as Cordran tape, is successful. Nicatinamide has also been used successfully.  (+ info)

my son was diagnosed with granuloma annulare a few days ago .he is only 2 years old what can i do about it?

Granuloma annulare (GA) is a common condition of unknown cause. It appears most often over knuckles and other joints or in places that are subject to frequent, mild injury such as the back of the hands or top of the feet. It is seen most often in older children and young adults.

The "rash" of GA is symmetrical (appears on both sides of the body more or less evenly) and formed by skin colored bumps. The bumps often expand or join to form rings. The center of each ring may be a little depressed, pale or light brown. GA usually has no symptoms, but it may be tender. It may come and go, only to return again. Most cases clear up after a few years with or without treatment.

Sometimes the diagnosis is not obvious, and other conditions may be considered. In such cases, a small biopsy will help to confirm the diagnosis.

In most cases no treatment is required. If treatment is desired, it may be helpful to apply a prescription cortisone cream to the skin. Cortisone can be injected into the lesions themselves if topicals fail.

GA is occasionally quite widespread (generalized GA) and this may be an entirely different condition. In these cases the bumps are often smaller and the rings harder to see. Most patients are over age 40, and there is often severe itching. Patients with generalized GA may have a tendency to diabetes mellitus and other internal problems. A biopsy and blood tests are usually needed.

In very widespread or bothersome cases, potent treatments are tried. These include Trental and Ultraviolet treatment (PUVA). Although often successful the GA tends to return eventually after they are discontinued. Other treatments occasionally tried when these fail are Dapsone, potassium Iodide and oral steroids  (+ info)

- black currant oil or evening primrose oil. Both provide GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), an essential fatty acid hard to come by in the diet. Takes 6 to 8 weeks to take effect.

-homeopathic treatment may be effective but you would have to do research or visit the homeopath
