FAQ - Growth Hormone-Secreting Pituitary Adenoma
(Powered by Yahoo! Answers)

I would like to get an advice about pituitary micro adenoma which affects the growth hormone.?

There are also physical changes taking place. Laboratory shows that Insulin growth factor and serum human growth hormone are increased. There are no medicines taken yet. What will be the next step? Do medicines can decrease the tumor or it should be removed surgically? Is there any life changes after the operation? Thank you. Hope I can get response soon. Thank you.

It can be treated with medications now since advances have been made - but your case has to be evaluated and followed by a neuro-endocrinologist, not just any endo.

What you have is called acromegaly. You need to get to the proper doctor for a full evaluation so that you can get treated properly as a lousy doctor may tell you to wait until things are worse.

If you do get an operation, it is done via the nose, and once you recover, you still need to be monitored for the rest of your life for recurrence and for other hormones as some are lost during surgery and you may need replacements.

It is also important to get followed by a good eye doctor and in your case, a dentist.  (+ info)

What are the side effects of the pituitary growth hormone?

I've heard nothing. But good answers about this steroid and I want to know the negative effects
----------

Hormones are necessary for life. This is for all hormones, not just GH.

Side effects for hormones come only from too little, and too much. When you are corrected, then you feel good. That is why you would feel ok, and why you would hear nothing much bad.

Sometimes the body will produce too many on their own or too little, and create health issues. Thankfully these can be treated now.

As for GH specifically, the synthetic form sometimes causes carpel tunnel either temporary or until stopped (I never got it), temporary bone/muscle pain when it is started, headaches when it is started. It is contraindicated in those with active cancer, however, some children that have become GHD after brain tumors do opt to take it and take it safely in order to grow - it has to be a case by case basis with monitoring.  (+ info)

How did robert wadlow grow was it human growth hormone or Pituitary Gigantism or Acromegaly please?

please i want to know so badly

Those are really all the same things, however, in his case it was the Pituitary producing too much growth hormone. Acromegaly usually occurs in middle age.  (+ info)

A pituitary tumor that produces excess amounts of growth hormone?

What would you have to look for?
A) Decreased triglyceride levels
B) Decresed levels of somatomedins in the blood
C) Hyperglycemia
D) Decreased urine output
E) High blood levels of amino acids

Help appreciated!
----------

C) Hyperglycemia

GH has many roles, but the only one that fits with your answer choices is GH's role in reducing glucose uptake in the liver (where it would be converted into glycogen for storage). This allows for glucose to be used instead for cell growth of all internal organs except the brain.  (+ info)

Does OCD affect the pituitary gland and growth hormone secretion?

Does the mental condition, Obessive Compulsive Disorder have anything to do with the pituitary gland. Subsquently can it interfer or affect the glands secretion and responses to hormomes and so on.
----------

Nope, no glands involved. Except when the disease process is started by a Strep infection, glandular inflammation may be present...yes there is really a Neurbiological association of OCD and Strep infections (it's auto-immune). PANDAS is the acronym.  (+ info)

If growth hormone (which is secreted by pituitary gland) is best secreted during sleeping AND.......?

if the hypothalamus gland (which is charge of sleep, hunger, etc) controls the pituitary gland and also tells it to secrete hormone does it mean that

A person who is really really short hasn't been getting good enough sleep?

when the person is not getting enough sleep, their hypothalamus gland might not be telling the pituitary gland what do right...and if the pituitary gland may not secrete growth hormone, right?

U know what I mean?
----------

Height is not necessarily determined by the amount of sleep you get. Height is determined by genetics, posture, bone strength, nutritional health, etc. I know a guy who is 4'11 and all he does is eat, sleep, and play video games. He is not active or anything. I get any where from 8-10 hours of sleep each night and I am 5'3. I am 19 by the way.  (+ info)

Is it true that STARVATION causes increased secretion of Human growth hormone, from the Pituitary gland?

if it does, it won't make anyone any bigger, because of malnutrition and other, more complicated, things.
SLEEP also stimulates human growth hormone, and is a lot healthier than starvation. eating healthy helps growth. are you thinking about starving yourself? if so, please don't do it, and seek professional help soon.  (+ info)
