How well do toe stretchers work with hammer toe?

  (+ info)

i wante to test out my steal toe boots. i hitted it with a hammer but it didnt not werk it was still sore. is?

sopposed to do that
so my toes are still sore they didnt not werk.
----------

I think steel toes are to keep your toes from being crushed. If you stump your does against something (hitting with hammer) you know its going to hurt because your toes are going to hit metal.:)  (+ info)

What are some cures for hammer toe?

Is there any way to cure hammer toe besides surgery?
----------

Need shoes with room for all toes, needs to be at least 1/2 inch longer than longest toe for comfort. Avoid wearing tight shoes narrow toed and high heeled. Some toe exercises may help to stretch and strengthen the muscles. Take a towel lay it flat on floor and use toes to crinkle up., use your toes to pick up items on the floor. Can use straps, cushions, annon medicateded corn pads. Other than this your doctor may wish to do surgery this is done on an out patient basis. with a local anesthetic the time depends on the type and size and how much deformity. After there is stiffness, swelling, and redness your toe may be longer/ shorter.
Initially hammer toe are flexible and can be corrected with simple measures but left untreated they can become fixed and require surgery.Hammer toe straighener,Bort hammer toe straighener.  (+ info)

dropped a hammer on my toe, its black now what should i do ? no fractures i believe?

I dropped a hammer on my second toe and I doubt I have any fractures but now the nail is like 99% all black. I know they have to make a hole in there to release the blood but my health insurance expired so I'm trying to see what I can do about this.
it sucks =(
The nail is disgusting dark purple now, and I have been putting ice... Neosporin Antibiotic Ointment on it since yesterday..
----------

If you did this yesterday the bleeding under the nail has stopped by now. (unless you are on blood thinners for some reason in which case you need to go to the ER). The nail will continue to get darker and so may the toe. It will be no different than anyother bruise and it will change colors as it resolves. Yes your nail will probably fall off.
Putting a hole in the nail at this time probably won't do anything. You need to do that while it is still actively bleeding or just after. It is to release the blood collection thereby releasing the pressure. But since it happened yesterday the blood is already coagulated so it will not come out it just has to be reabsorbed.
Personally I would soak the foot a couple times a day for 20 minutes or so in warm water or use a heating pad a couple times a day. The heat will increase the circulation in the area and help to breakdown the collection of blood. Don't soak your feet longer than this though because you can do damage to the skin and cause other problems for yourself.
When the nail falls off, you won't need to do anything. The nail bed underneath will already be hardened because of the separation of the nail bed and nail so it shouldn't be painful either. Do keep the nail trimmed as it starts to loosen so it doesn't catch on shoes or socks or even towels. If you catch the end of the nail and pull it off before it is ready it will hurt when it happens and will continue to hurt for a while after.
Hope this helps

Should I have my hammer toe straightened?

My toe, next to my big toe, curls down and I can't straighen it. It is problematic but not painfull. The toe will probably need to be straigntened eventually. Should I get it done now - will it be less painful do it now or should I just wait untill it gets worse...I'm almost 40.

The younger you are, the quicker bones heal. If you're going to have it done, now is the time.
Make sure you have a good surgeon.  (+ info)

Is there anything wrong with having a hammer toe?

My sister used to call me "MC hammer toe"
----------

Nothing is wrong with it MC Hammer toe.  (+ info)

I had a hammer toe on both my feet. I had surgery 6 yrs ago. Now my right foot hurts on the bottom.?

I have been to the doctor that did the surgery 4 times and he says nothing is wrong. I can not wear a closed shoe because it feels like its burning and the right side of my toe hurts. My left foot is fine. The pain started 4 months after surgery.
----------

I sort of have the same situation. I went to the podiatrist and he said he could do the surgery to straighten them out, but there is a possibility of having pain later on. That was the only thing that kept me from having the surgery.
Make sure you have good shoes and socks and try some foot stretching and exercises from this website:

Having bunion & hammer toe surgery Thursday. Does it hurt much afterwards?

I'm having my bunion and hammer toe corrected this week. The bunion doesn't give me much pain now - it used to but now it just looks really awful. I'm really self conscious about it. My hammer toe though is a different matter. I find it excruciating some times but very painful always. If I could cut my foot off I would do when the pain is really bad. I can't wait to get it seen to so I can walk properly, be pain free and be able to buy shoes & sandals which fit properly. I'm naturally a little anxious about having them corrected and wondered if anyone has gone through this already and what sort of level of pain I can expect, especially after surgery. Is it bearable? I have quite a high pain threshold, so maybe it will be OK for me. Has anyone got any info to share with me please?
----------

Your surgeon will probably recommend a surgical shoe for at least several weeks to protect the surgical site. Some people find that pain during recovery is not as bad as the hammertoe!

You must ask for pain medications if you need them, as every person's perception of pain is different, and your surgeon cannot know how much pain you're in unless you tell hir.

I have read of some people who experienced no significant pain after the first day or two, and others who complained of more. Again, though, work with your surgeon, following hir instructions carefully, and ask for adequate pain relief as necessary.

Average recovery time is 4-6 weeks, but improvement will be seen each day.

Good luck!  (+ info)

hammer toe correction didnt work?

hey guys . i just recently have had both of my 5th toes corrected as i had hammer toe . i dont think it has worked though as they dont look much different at all. does anyone know much about this or heard of this happening berfore. i am upset as have beeen waiting for ages for the operation :(
----------

Never heard of it and quite frankly why worry about it . Most your life your toes will be in tucked in socks and covered in with shoes . And when you don't have either shoes or socks they will hidden under the blankets. And for most the part , it will be you looking at them and the rest of the world will have hardly notice you have hammer toes . Good luck and have a great day .  (+ info)
