Do you believe in metal disorders such as ADHD?

I think psychiatry on a whole thing is big scam. I dont believe that a child is mentally deficient if he or she likes to frolic and be adventerous. I have heard of some crazy things like arithemitic disorder and avoidant personality disorder etc. I think too many people refuse to take responsibilty for themselves and blame their faults on genetic 'flaws'. I dont think I should stuff my kid with pills if he misbehaves, struggles with reading or would rather play in a park rather than do home work. If a person decides to party every night or become criminal it is because they choose to and not because of some chemical imbalance. Very few of these diseases have been proven to exist and there is a huge market for selling drugs to 'cure' these unknwon diseases. What do you think?
----------

Yes, I do believe that ADHD can be diagnosed.

The only problem is that a lot of kids get the stamp or people say they have ADHD and so can't help being restless or not being able to concentrate.
It's so sad that so many parents accept Ritalin as the solution, because it's not.
It's a dangerous drug that suppresses the child's character.
Ritalin is an amphetamine.
Nowadays a lot of children are under stress. They have to accomplish much more than they are able to cope with.
This feeling in adults causes burn outs and they can express that in several ways.
A lot of children are burnt out at an early age, dealing with problem that are family related. Dealing with parents in a non-happy marriage ( even when you are not arguing in front of your child they'll still feel the pressure to act right), or loosing a grand-parent, some other loved one.

Children in the US get a lot of home work and have not much time to relax after work. they build up a huge amount of stress they can't release. Causing parents and teachers to think they have ADHD.

Another bottle of the drug Ritalin gets ordered to suppress the child instead of taking time to teach them how to cope with the situation and not being a hassle in class or at home.

I have worked as a social work for 7 years and heard many cases of children eventually going for the stronger stuff.
Even my husbands best friend from high school started to go for speed( where it is related too) and eventually cocaine.

I'm highly against Ritalin and I believe that children need to become a priority of society again and need to be looked after far more.

Did you know that a US school gets extra financial benefits from the government for every child that's diagnosed? No, wonder they want all these kids tested.  (+ info)

Hearing voices in my ear, what is it?

I lay in bed, and start hearing unintelligible voices. Normally, I'm fully conscious. However, when it happens when I'm half asleep, I thrash until I'm sitting up straight, my heart pounding. It only happens at night. It used to happen every month or so, but the frequency is increasing and I'm worried.
I'm not diagnosed with anything, but my family does have a long line of mental disorders. Is this something I should get checked out?
----------

wow! that sounds wierd and a bit scary! haha. Im no expert so I dont know what to advise but just talking to someone about it might put your mind at rest. Im sure lots of people have the same things happen to them too.  (+ info)

Can Laser Eye Surgery really cure eye disorders efficiently?

I have heard people say laser eye surgery is a very effective method to cure eyes. I had a nearsightedness and a slight astigmatism (eye disorder). All were caused naturally (due to over-studying, and over-playing games, I admit). Can I have a laser eye surgery that can effectively cure my eyes and make them normal again?
Thank you.
----------

I had Laser eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have Laser eye surgery. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had Laser eye surgery done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended.

Is there a natural way to restore my degerative hearing disorder?

It depends...if your "degenerative hearing disorder" is caused by a middle ear problem, then there may be some surgical options. If its nerve damage, then no, that hearing does not come back. Best thing you can do is to get a hearing aid EARLY on so that you keep the healthy portions of your nerve stimulated and preserve your speech understanding.  (+ info)

Does anyone have hearing loss with Tmj disorder?

Hi,
I cant tell if i have muffled hearing due to ear wax or tmj. my gp tells me i do have ear wax but not blocking my canal, so i wondered if tmj could be the cause?
I have clicking in my jaw joint, and my neck is painful, and my ears feel full. I have tried ear drops to remove any wax, but it didnt make my hearing improve.
Could this be related to tmj?

If you are noticing signs of hearing loss I would recommend you visit an audiologist for a full hearing evaluation. Based on the hearing test results he/she may refer you to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor for further evaluation. During the full hearing evaluation additional tests will be done to assist the audiologist in determining the type of hearing loss and potential causes.

For more on signs and causes of hearing loss, visit: http://www.healthyhearing.com/questions/39529-hearing-loss and http://www.healthyhearing.com/questions/31117-causes-sensorineural-hearing-loss.

Regarding TMJ. TMJ does not typically cause hearing loss; however it can cause tinnitus - ringing in the ears. If the TMJ is at all affecting your Eustachian tube then it surely it can cause you to feel plugged and perhaps make you feel as if you have hearing loss. The Eustachian tube equalizes pressure within your middle ear space. During the hearing evaluation the audiologist will perform a tympanogram test which will assist him/her in telling if your Eustachian tube is not working properly. There are two parts to this question. First is: Do you meet the financial qualifications? This is a "welfare" program. To qualify, you have to have limited income and resources. The second question is: Does she meet the medical qualifications? The only way to know the answers for sure is to go ahead and apply. It does not cost anything to apply, and then you will know.  (+ info)

Any other mental disorders where you hear voices?

Okay my best friend has always heard voices in her head (she even has an alter ego), but now I think its getting out of hand. When she was younger she often tried to kill other people, but has never wanted to kill herself. She also feels like no one understands and that she has died a couple of times (her mother had a miscarriage before she had her).

Any suggestions? cause when I suggest schizophrenia she says no and her family refuses to acknowledge it.

She needs some medication. Ask her to talk with someone who specializes in this kind of disorder before it's to late.  (+ info)
