I seem to be experiencing sudden hearing loss in my left ear. Can anyone help me?

If anyone has any information and/or personal experience with sudden hearing loss in one ear, please tell! I did a bit of searching and found an article on SHL and SSHL. That seems to be what I have.

Any answers?
I forgot to say that I already went to the doctor and was given a steroid to help my body recover I guess...
I have another appointment on friday.
Also, at the clinic, my doctor cleaned my ear.
I am also experiencing ringing. I had a shower this morning and then the ringing started a few minutes later. I went back to sleep and woke up mostly deaf in my left ear.
And my ear is numb.
I already mentioned that I cleaned my ear at the doctor... But he didn't see much wax in there.

You should get your doctor to check it. You could have a wax buildup which can affect your hearing. Put a couple drops of olive oil in your ear twice a day for 3-4 days before you go to your doctor. If there's a wax blockage, the olive oil will soften it and the doctor can flush it out with warm water in a syringe. It doesn't hurt and feels incredible when the wax comes out. You'll notice an improvement in your hearing immediately.................assuming of course thats what it is!  (+ info)

What could have caused sudden cold sweats, no energy, and loss of vision and hearing for a minute?

Right after dinner tonight, I immediately had the worst heartburn I've ever had. After about 20 minutes of it, I all of a sudden started to feel worse and sweat. My mom found me in a room sitting against the wall after I called for her because I felt like something was about to come on. All of a sudden, I started getting cold sweats, my hearing and vision started to fade, I felt like I could have used the bathroom at that moment, and I loss all my energy where I couldn't even get a word out. My mom put a cold compress to my head and after a minute into it, it went away. I got up and my back was drenched in sweat. I felt better, but still had a little bit of a heartburn. It was like a quick rush that lasted a minute of feeling like something really bad was happening, then just disappeared.

This has never happened before, I'm pretty healthy, and this came while I was just at my parents' sitting around. Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this?

I experience REALLY bad menstrual cramps, to where I have to have pain killers the first two days. When I don't, since the pain is so bad, I start to feel like that, almost like I'm going to pass out, I sweat, my hearing fades and my vision goes like tunnel vision kind of, and everything seems so slow around me. Is this the feeling? What I think it might be could possibly be just the PAIN you not being use to, and your body can't handle it or something. I've had this since middle school, it's happened about 3 times, but all for the same reason. I have to have fresh or cold air to feel better. So it could be you just almost passing out.  (+ info)

herbal remedies for sinorinural hearing loss?

effective home remedies for sudden sinorineural hearing loss?
its sudden, earlier i had stapedectomy done in that ear.i also have whistling sound in the same ear at some intervals.can cough and cold cause it,could it be temporary?could anybuddy suggest any treatment with any alternative medicines?
----------

I hate to hear about anyone experiencing this. The term is actually "Sensorineural" and is a nerve damage. There really are no remedies and often the cause is never discovered. However, B vitamins are known to heal our nerves and Ginkgo biloba is know to increase blood circulation to the brain. You might try those 2 things for 3 months and see how it goes. If the ginkgo makes you dizzy, cut back on the dose or just take it every 2nd day. Be sure to take the B vitamin complex with food as it can make you feel nauseated on an empty stomach.  (+ info)

Sudden hearing loss.. what happened?

I am 44 year old female. I had a cold the same week this happened. Cold was in full fledge by Tuesday and Friday night sitting in front of a TV,I suddenly lost hearing out of one ear. I went to the ENT doctor on the first day they were open. They could not find anything, however put me on anti-viral meds. and sterioids. Hearing in that ear is still gone. Suppose to re-visit them when the steroids are done. That is another week from now. Anyone have any suggestions or anyone have had this to happen to them? If so.. what became of it?
----------

Having a cold will sometimes result in a build-up of pressure in the ear. This will then cause a loss of hearing until the pressure is gone. Sometimes this will take some time. I've had it happen when I was in an airplane and didn't yawn. The difference in pressure made my hearing nearly non-existant for about 4 or 5 days.
Since you've seen a doctor, I'm sure they've ruled out a burst eardrum.
I would suggest trying to clean out the ear with a q-tip (safely!) and hoping that it'll clear up. good luck  (+ info)

could sudden hearing loss be a sign of a possible stroke?

After ruling out trauma, and hygiene, my first guess wouldn't be stroke. Neurological, yes,but stroke, wouldn't be my first guess without the presence of other symptoms.  (+ info)

My husband had on sudden loss of hearing! He already had loss of hearing in the right ear.?

we have an mri scheduled for in the morning, and he is on a steroid and anit viral meds. we made over 250000 last year mostly from a partnership that my family has set up for tax perpose for when my father passes away. All profits go back into the partnership. My Husband and I only bring home approx 60000 a year. He is a truck driver and only makes money when driving. If he doesn't or can't drive will we qualify for disability through the govt? Or will the partnership prevent that from happening? Age and work wise he qualifies and we have a 4 year old and an 19 month old.

Well, it could be some complicated problem, or it could be he's got a bunch of wax in his ear and it needs to be cleaned out. His doctor can remove any excess wax - don't do it yourself.  (+ info)

has anyone experienced sudden hearing loss due to a virus?

several weeks ago, i suddenly lost hearing in my left ear, i was treated with steroids but no change. I have now been diagnosed with one sided deafness and was told i have little to no chance of recovering any hearing. All of this was due to a virus that attaced my inner ear. Has anyone experienced this, and had any luck with chinease herbs? I would be happy with any hearing. thank you
----------

I work with a couple people who had this happen to them. One of them lost it due to a virus that attacked his ear. He no longer works with me, so I'm not sure if he continued experimenting with treatments, got a hearing aid, or what the outcome was.

Another one lost hearing in his ear literally overnight. He finally went to an ENT. After running several tests, they found that his autoimmune system malfunctioned. It attacked the hearing in his left ear causing significant hearing loss. The doctors were aware that he has had problems with autoimmune issues in the past, but weren't positive the hearing loss was due to a flare up. Once upon a time, they didn't believe autoimmunie disease could attack the hearing, now they're finding out different. He was able to regain some hearing back. They injected steroids directly into his ear drum. It took several procedures.

I, myself, woke up one morning with hearing loss in my ear. After blood tests, MRI scan, etc., they deduced that I had otoschlerosis. It's a bone conductive hearing loss that can be corrected (somewhat) with surgery. However, I suffered some nerve damage and still have some permanent hearing loss in that ear.

I've never heard of using chinese herbs. You may want to check further with a specialist that knows something about autoimmunie diseases or an ENT . . . if you already haven't.  (+ info)
