HELLP Syndrome?

I just got over a rough pregnancy...Severe hyperemesis, hypertension and HELLP Syndrome..The Doctors and Nurses say I most likely won't have this experience with my future pregnancies..especially if it's with the same guy..Is there any truth to this?
----------

You actually have a 47% chance of having this again in subsequent pregnancies (pubmed articles - just google HELLP).

You can be treated with preventative medication, but it sounds pretty risky to me.  (+ info)

hellp syndrome?

I had hellp syndrome in my last pregnancy and nearly needed a liver transplant is there any one out there who has had the same thing or anyone who knows abit about it.
----------

I also had hellp syndrome with my first pregnancy 2 years ago. I had great doctors who caught my symptoms early and I was able to avoid alot of long term problems. I did however develop a heart murmur that I still have and still have to have my platelets checked every 6 months. I bruise really easily and badly at the slightest touch. Other than that, I had no other long term problems afterward. Did you have the really awful upper abdominal pain during the end of your pregnancy? Mine was so bad I was given a morphine drip...and I still could feel the pain. I was on bedrest for 3 weeks before I was forced to deliver my son at 32 weeks. He was fortunately healthy, but I had to be on magnesium for 52 hours after birth. The whole thing was a complete haze to me and I feel like I was cheated out of the best experience of my life. But, I have a healthy son and he's so wonderful that I can over look all of that.  (+ info)

What happens when a mother has HELLP syndrome at 14 weeks pregnant?

I am 14 weeks pregnant, and am being tested for HELLP syndrome, I have several of the symptoms. If it is too early to safely deliver the baby, what is the next step?
----------

HELLP syndrome needs to be treated early for the best results for you and the baby. This means that your baby will need to be born either by induction of labor or a cesarean, depending on where you are in your pregnancy and how severe your symptoms are of HELLP. This is done even if your baby is premature, as HELLP gets bad rather quickly and is reversed only with birth. If it's not treated early, about 25 of the mothers have very serious, lasting effects, including liver damage. The complications for babies depend on the point in gestation that they were born and the seriousness and length of complications experienced by the mother.  (+ info)

What are my chances of having HELLP syndrome with my second pregnancy?

I had preeclampsia and severe HELLP syndrome with my first pregnancy. My son was born 8 weeks early by emergency c-section. We went through a lot but are both well. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what my chances are with my second pregnancy to have HELLP syndrome again?

every pregnancy is different! Talk it over with your doc and see if there are any preventives before you get pregnant again  (+ info)

has anyone ever developed hellp syndrome while pregnant?

I just recently had my baby 2 week ago through c section. He was premature. I had developed pre eclampsia and hellp syndrome. My blood pressure was very high. I was very afraid at on point. I was wondering how common is this problem and can it happen again if I were to have a second baby.
----------

I had my daughter at 26 weeks due to HELLP Syndrome (she is now a healthy 3 yr old.) I had a LOT of questions but very few were answered by my doctors. Maybe there is more known about it now than 3 years ago. I don't know statistics, but I know there are a lot of women who have dealt with this. The best place I found for answers is other moms. Yahoo groups has a wonderful group called Hellpsyndrome (it will come up when you search in groups). The people are wonderful and will help you with support and help you find the answers to your questions! I hope this helps a little!  (+ info)

Is it possible to have a normal pregnancy after having HELLP syndrome in a previous pregnancy?

In my previous pregnancy my placenta was attached to the uterus and it couldn't contract and i lost a lot of blood. My blood pressure was elevated and my liver enzymes were low. I had to have a blood transfusion because my blood count was also low. I just wanted to know if I got pregnant again will there be a chance that this will happen again or would it be safe to get pregnant?
----------

I had HELLP syndrome my first pregnancy. I had an emergency c-section when I was 32 weeks. My son weighed 2 pounds 13 ounces. My husband and I are talking about having another baby. I'm scared to death! I'm still not sure I could go through that again if I had to. I've done ALOT of research and came up with that we have a 19%-27% of developing it again. However, it's supposed to be less sever...whatever that means.

I have decided to make an appointment with a perinatologist (specializes in high risk pregnancies) to talk over the risks with him. I go June 5th. I recommend you should do this also. A prenatal consultation with a perinatologist, that way you can get answers from a specialist. Sometimes a doctor or OBGYN isn't enough...  (+ info)

Bedrest sucks! Anybody else currently on bedrest for pre-eclampsia or Hellp syndrome?

I was diagnosed with beginning stages of hellp syndrome last week and put on iron pills and told to drink heaps of water. I'm doing it all cause that's whats best for my baby and me but ahhhhhhhhh its frustrating. 4 more weeks of bedrest
I guess i'm just seeing how others are doing.
----------

I have been on bed rest for 4 months because of preterm labor.I am 36 weeks and just now have gotten off of bed rest. It is horrible I know and really after awhile nothing can keep you entertained.I searched the internet, watched movies, slept, read, slept. When DH would come home I was like a little kid so I know what you are going through. The last weeks are the hardest to but whenever you get down,I know I did,I just think about my girls and what would happen if they arrived now.It is almost over, good luck hun!  (+ info)

I am doing a report about HELLP syndrome. Please help me find out more about HELLP.?

This is a project for an ultra sound program. It would be helpful if someone could please share some real life experience about how you have personally been affected by this syndrome.
----------

I had it with my first son which was four years ago. If you're doing research on it I'm sure you know what it stands for. I didn't know i had it until i actually went into labor. i had high blood pressure, elevated liver enzymes and extremely low platelet counts. The night before i went into labor my hands and feet swole up really big and when i got to the hospital they drew my blood and came back and told me there was something wrong. I had to deliver my son naturally no pain meds sure to them thinking i would bleed, they gave me a time limit to deliver him, if i hadn't they would have to take him and hope for the best. I had him and then started bleeding they didn't know why and had the Dr. come in and check me. He sat at the end of the bed and scooped blood clots out of me, i had to receive a blood transfusion. I'm not sure how low my platelet count was when i first went in but i know they were just at 30,000 when i left 4 days later, (normal range is 200,000) So there's most of my story, hope i helped.

anyone out there ever had HELLP syndrome?

I developed hellp syndrome with my last pregnancy and still wanted to have 1 more child but not sure if it is safe. get conflicting info from doctors.
----------

I also developed hellp syndrome with my last pregnancy, and I am now currently 19 weeks pregnant with my second child. There are so far no complications what so ever. My doctor told me that each pregnancy is different, and so I may not even have any troubles like that this time. He told me that usually if you are going to have troubles it will be with the first child, and the next one you won't. Of course nothing is a guarentee, but I am healthy, and so is the baby, so I would say that you would be safe too!

Did you have any long term effects from the hellp syndrome? I didn't due to the fact that as soon as it was discovered, and it was discovered right away, I was given a c-section the next day to deliver, which is the only way to get rid of the syndrome. If you did have any long term effects, then you may have some trouble, that I don't know about. Each person is different, and all pregnancies are different, so I would most likely follow the advice of my doctor if I were in your case. I just wanted you to know that I had gotten the same thing, and am currently having a healthy pregnancy, so it is possible!

Good luck to you!  (+ info)
