Can the reactivation of HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus) cause a hemorrhagic stroke (burst of cavernous hemangioma

Are there any tests that can be done to show this? My Neurologist has done an MRI of the brain, but she says my deficits are from the stroke. After over three years and no progress, I'd like to explore this possibility (esp w/Medrol), especially since many things worsen right before menstruaion.

Thank you for your time!
----------

Question #1: No

Question #2: No, because (see answer to Question #1)

Whatever deficits you have (and you haven't listed them), they're from the rupture of the hemangioma and the subsequent CVA. If you've had no progress, you may to accept the possibility that you've progressed as much as you ever will. The damage may be permanent.

It's not clear what you mean by "especially with Medrol". Are you suggesting that an antiinflammatory may help? But do you have inflammation anywhere in your body?

WHAT things worsen right before menstruation????

You need to provide more information.  (+ info)

What is the best procedure to operate a cavernous hemangioma of spinal cord?

Four months ago my Mom presented numbness of the lower limbs. She is 57 years old. A month ago a MRI showed a epidural compression of the spinal cord. The next day a T4-T5 laminectomy was done and we found a cavernous hemangioma tumor. This tumor is also present at T1 and at T9. With the laminectomy only about 60% of the tumor was removed because the rest of it was sorrounding the spinal cord, by the posterior mediastinum. She walks with some difficulty. Most of the time she stays seated or on the bed. She does eat not too much. Three weeks after the laminectomy a MRI revealed the elimination of the cord compression. She's feeling better, but she still feels compression between the chest and the stomach. She needs the rest of the tumor to be removed. We've had several suggestions to operate such as injection of absolute ethanol, 3D irradiation, sclerotherapy with polidocanol and surgery. I would like to know the best procedure and where it could be performed best. Thanks a lot

I don't think you can get a proper answer here. The decision making process must be done in collaboration with the surgeon who will perform the procedure. He/she will have access to all of the test results and imaging studies that were performed as well as the entire patient history and physical exam. When deciding between different procedures you need to know the benefits and risks of each procedure, the differences between each procedure, the success rate, how many times the surgeon has performed each procedure and what his/her success rate is, the prognosis after each procedure etc. This is obviously a complicated issue which needs to be thoroughly discussed with a professional.
Best of luck to your mom and in making the right decision for her.  (+ info)

What are the risks of hemangioma of the liver during pregnancy?

Just recently I was told I may have hemangioma of the liver. I had an ultrasound which showed a leison a 2cm. The doctor recomended I have a CT, but I am currently 4months prenant. Well the doctor didn't give me much info about what I have He just said to come back after I have the baby. Well I've done my own research and I'm a little worried because I've read the it can grow when you pregnant and there is risks of rupture. Well I've had pain in my stomache since before I was pregant, and I guess my question is: Should I be concerned or trust the doctor and not worry till after I have the baby? Should I find another doctor? Is there any more information I should know or that any one else can tell me? Thanks
----------

A lesion this small should present no problem to you or your little one....particularly if you never knew you had it because you had no symptoms.

The CT scan will just give the doctor a definite diagnosis. Your doctor is right, you really have nothing to worry about. However, if you don't trust or doctor or would just feel safer getting a second opinion, by all means do so.

In the meantime, here is a site that will back up what I have just told you.

How do I know how many times my cavernous angioma has bled?

Does an MRI/CT scan show how often a Cavernous angioma has bled? Is it possible to tell how many bleeds you've had if the bleeds have been many years appart?
it's in the right frontal lobe of my brain
----------

This may depend on where your angioma/hemangioma is.

I have numerous cavernous hemangiomas in my liver but have had several ultrasounds that showed no evidence of bleeding.

This is a pretty advanced Question for Yahoo Answers; your physician may be able to help you out.  (+ info)

How do you treat a hemangioma?

My ten month old niece has a mushroom capped shaped hemangioma under her right eye. She was treated with steroids so it wouldn't grow anymore, but it has not improved. What other options are there?
----------

Its unlikely that anything further will be done.

Haemangiomas (also known as strawberry naevi) are entirely benign, and reasonably common. They typically fade away as the affected children grow, and usually by the age of four, or so, are completely gone.  (+ info)

how is a hemangioma removed from the tip of the nose?

my daughter is 11 with a hemangioma on the tip of her nose and is scheduled to have it removed. I am curious as to how they will do this and if any scars will be present.
----------

We do Pulsed dye laser for that case ( not surgical because there will be much bleeding ). Hemangiomas are capillary malformation. PDL (the laser) will just target the veins. This will help control the growth of the lesion (if not resolved over time ) and will eventually decrease the size.No scarring if laser is done coz there will be no breaking of the skin. hope this helps. ;0 God bless!!  (+ info)

Did anyone treat your childs hemangioma with steroid injections?

Did it stop the growth? How many did it require? Did it make it look better?

My baby girl is 10 weeks old with a scalp hemangioma (its small) and got the injection. I'm hoping it will stop the growth. Anyone have experience with this?
