Is an hemangioma the same thing as an aneurysm?

Had an MRI of the spine and it shows a hemangioma at the T8 vertebral.
----------

No Hemangioma and Aneurysm are different:

Hemangioma: A birth irregularity where a localized tissue mass grows rich in small blood vessels. Capillary hemangiomas are composed nearly entirely of tiny capillary vessels. Cavernous hemangiomas are composed of blood- filled "lakes" and channels.

An hemangioma may be visible through the skin as a birthmark, known colloquially as a "strawberry mark." Most hemangiomas that occur at birth disappear after a few months or years.

Aneurysm: A localized widening (dilatation) of an artery, vein, or the heart. At the area of an aneurysm, there is typically a bulge and the wall is weakened and may rupture. The word "aneurysm" comes from the Greek "aneurysma" meaning "a widening."  (+ info)

my daughter has them on her cheeks but they have not progressed to dark blue black marks they look more like light red spider webs the doctor said they were find but if they got worse they could use laser therapy to treat and get rid of them.  (+ info)

my 5 month daughter has an hemangioma on the back of her neck, how big will it grow?

it seems to be growing really fast, the gp says it sould stop around 12 months, but if carrys on growing til then its gonna be really big.has anyone else had children with one?when did theirs stop growing and how big did it get?
----------

My daughter had one. When she was born she had a little red dot on her neck and it grew a little bit, but it stopped fairly quickly. I'd say within a month it was as big as it ever got. The pediatrician told me it would go away by the time she was 18 months old. She's 3 1/2 now and it is still there. It has went down a lot, but it is still there. At first I would get aggravated having to explain to everyone what it is, because to me I never noticed it and she was perfect. It gets easier with time having to explain it. Maybe you should get a second opinion. I do know that removing them is possible, but unless it is interfering with daily life they don't recommend it. Good luck!!  (+ info)

If anyone out there has a baby with a hemangioma, please tell me if you have chosen treatment. And what type. ?

Do you know of any websites that are informative for hemangiomas?
----------

I was born with one and had it surgically removed at 9 (I think that they had tried to remove it unsuccessfully when I was baby), the surgeons advised my mother that I would be scared for approximately 18 months, I am now in my 30s and I still have a fairly prominent scar on my face from it.
Majority disappear on their own so I would advise not doing anything unless it is absolutely necessary, I wish mine had been left alone, I may be used to the scar now but I found it quite difficult whilst growing up.

does anyone know if hemangioma in the spine is cancer?

I have been diagnosed with a "body hemangioma" and am scared to death. they are sending me to a neuro surgeon.
----------

Most likely not cancer. I've read that about 10% of people have these - they are found at autopsy but didn't cause any problems when the person was alive. Sounds like yours is causing some problem, or else you wouldn't even know you had it!

Relax. Go see the neurosurgeon, and take care of it before it gets any worse. It may be treatable with a simple injection - only your neurosurgeon knows for sure!  (+ info)
