Could i get septicemia from an infection around my fingernail?

There is an area beside the fingernail that is green and swollen
----------

Septicemia can potentially develop from any infection that spreads beneath the skin. If the infection is near the surface, it will probably pop open at some point and drain. You could wait a day or two and see what happens or go to the doc an get an antibiotic just to be safe. Even if you developed septicemia, it would take several days or more for it to progress beyond your finger, and you would see an obvious progression of red swelling along your finger that would alert you of a problem.  (+ info)

how'll someone get Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever instead of Dengue Fever? only after repeated bites by mosquitoes?

i would like to know that why dengue fever is divided into DF and DHF? is it for the different approach of managements? how will someone get DHF instead of DF? i read in some literatures saying that only after repeated bites by the mosquito,DHF will only develop in the patient?is that true?any experimental evidence to support that? hoping for a reply,thank you very much.
----------

you could catch both from being bitten by a female aedes aegypti mosquito. those terms were used to describe the stage in which the patient is in. DHF/dengue hemorrhagic fever means its getting worse. in dengue you watch for 2 things, initially we note a decrease in the platelet count, then there is a hemoconcentration later on as seen by elevated hematocrit levels. that is the time you worry over bleeding tendencies when both decrease in platelet and hemoconcentration are present.  (+ info)

can you die if a hemorrhagic cyst ruptures?

i ws just at the hospital and found out i had a hemorrhagic cyst thats bleeding, i was wondering could you die from the bleeding or not..they said the blood is going into my abdomen, am i gonna be okay?
----------

If a cyst ruptures, it is usually very painful. Hemorrhagic cysts that rupture are less common. Most hemorrhagic cysts are self-limiting; some need surgical intervention. Even if a hemorrhagic cyst ruptures, in many cases it resolves without surgery. Patients who don't require surgery will experience pain for 4 - 10 days after, and may require several days rest.

There is a very slim, VERY slim chance that there could be complications from an UNTREATED ruptured hemorrhagic cyst but you would be in a lot of pain for several days and would I hope have already been to the doctor. So the chances of anything serious developing are next to nothing. Usually, these things can be painful but not life threatening.  (+ info)

so i have to do project for school and i was wondering HOW it can be detected prenatally. i know that it is possible but like i dont know exactly how. so any information would be very very appreciated. thanks a bunch
----------

Nangami g,
The diagnosis of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) – also Rendu-Osler-Weber disease, Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome - is based on family history and the presence of cutaneous or mucocutaneous telangiectases or large visceral AVMs. HHT is caused by a mutation in either ENG, the gene encoding endoglin or ACVRL1, the gene encoding the activin receptor. Molecular genetic testing of these genes detects mutations in 60-80% of individuals with HHT and is available on a clinical basis. You may find the link which I add of some assistance in preparing your project. I wish you well.

During an amniocentesis procedure blood was drawn. Could this cause a hemorrhagic stroke?

My daughter was only 29 when she had a stroke. She is very healthy, excercises daily and does not smoke and eats healthily, always organic. She is a tiny size, like 0 or 2. She wonders why this happened to her. I had heard that an injury while in the womb could be a cause for someone who has a stroke under the age of 30. She has a good outcome, no impairment but if it is possible that the procedure was the cause, I think it important to share.
----------

Amniocentesis (also referred to as amniotic fluid test or AFT), is a medical procedure used in prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal infections, in which a small amount of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal tissues, is extracted from the amnion or amniotic sac surrounding a developing fetus, and the fetal DNA is examined for genetic abnormalities.
Risks are minimal, but may include:
* Infection or injury to the baby
* Miscarriage
* Leaking of amniotic fluid
* Vaginal bleeding  (+ info)
