Hiv and hepatit c can both be hidden for yeays.Can a blood test show the disease?

I am a dentist,I scratched my hand with a device by which i was taking out the amalgam out of the tooth of a patient(one months ago)I pressed the area,so that th blood comes out and washed it with water.worried,now I want to test my blood for Hiv and hvc,but can I rely on a test,while the disease can be hidden for years,without any symptone,or any sign in the blood?
For both diseases, I would test now and then again in about 3 months. HCV usually doesn't present itself in labs until about the 50th day post possible exposure.
I am not sure on HIV although usually after two negative tests within 6 months of one another your considered HIV negative.

You should test now just to rule out a much previous exsposure.

With both HIV and HCV infection, treatment is needed to begin as early as possible so the less damage it can do to the body as a whole.

By having the career you have, you should be tested for these types of disease yearly anyway. Good luck!

I think anything can be cured by eating totally raw foods and green juices. Do a google/yahoo search on raw foods and diseases. I had diabetes and kidney and liver disease (both caused by the diabetes) which was cured by eating raw vegetables (you will get used to it and you can do it slowly), lots of fruit (not commercial fruit juices as it has to be raw), one or twice daily raw fruit juices juiced by you and as many green juices as you can make daily (with a juicer, lots of dark green leafy vegetables and things like zucchini, brocoli, cucumbers anything green). You get used to the taste believe me. And it works. My doctors are amazed at my blood work. In only 4 months! Try it what have you got to lose!? But hep c. Don't eat any other foods but raw veggies, fruits and juices. And you can eat as much as you like. It's not as expensive as you think compared to what you used to eat it is on comparison money wise. Stay away from junk food, high fat foods, salted foods, sugar foods. Eat as natural as nature intended. Your body will thank you and take away the hep c and any other diseases you have. I dont know what c hepatit is, I think your talking about hepatitis C, if thats the case, ask your doctor if you can take it, dont ask us. You dont want someone that doesnt know for sure like people on here telling you, and then you take it and something bad happens, best thing to do is talk to your doctor  (+ info)

My moms friend Emil, who has Hepatit C.. took a diabetes test on me, Well he changed needle, but when he used the same paper piece to take off the blood from my sore!!
He used a different side of the paper tho..
Im so scared! Im only 17 years old, im too young to die..

Your mum's friend has Hepatitis C, and he tested you for diabetes from taking a blood sample?

What did he use the other side of the cotton for? From another sore? If from another sore, from whom? the person with Hepatitis C?

In that case, the chances you will get Hepatitis C are extremely low. However the chance is still there, therefore it is better to go for another blood test.

First off, calm down. Unless your mom's friend actually has Hepatitis, there is no way to contract it from him. Secondly, even if he has it, you would need to get his blood in contact with your own for transmission to occur. If the cotton wasn't completely soaked in blood, there is very little chance of that.

And if you washed your hands after doing this little test, then you probably washed away any infectious agent that there might have been passed onto you by the other side of the cotton.

So just chill. There is no need to get hysterical, and you most likely will be just fine.  (+ info)

I took a vitamin C tablet with 500mg in it today. I would like to take a multivitamin but they also have vitamin C (200 mg)

is 700 mg of vitamin C too much? The multivitamin says the vitamin C is ascorbic acid if that helps.
Taking 700 mg of vitamin C per day is OK but less would be OK as well.

To get the optimum benefit from your 700 mg of vitamin C it would be best not to take both tablets together. Perhaps you could take your multivitamin with breakfast and your 500 mg vitamin C tablet with dinner. Vitamin C is water soluble and whatever your body doesn't need ends up in your urine.

As your multivitamin contains 200 mg of vitamin C you don't really need the extra 500 mg.

You need at least 50 mg of vitamin C and preferably at least 100 mg of vitamin C per day and you can get that from a normal healthy diet that includes plenty of fruit and vegetables.  (+ info)

A friend has Hepatitis C. Her liver is weak due to the Hep C. I looked up a list of things she should be avoiding and taking more of.She's not supposed to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen because it weakens the liver. However, she got a really bad headache today and couldn't take anything to relieve the pain. Any ideas for home remedies to relieve headaches or any other medicines she can take?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Most books say that the typical approach is low dose acetaminophen (500-1000mg) per day which most texts say isn't too harmful, but that would probably assume you were not in the later stages. I hate to say it but in many cases I see narcotics being used such as a low acetaminophen hydrocodone combo. 10/325 or something like that to minimize the amount of tylenol. I have to say this but, opiate pain medications can be very addictive as I cannot suggest someone resort to that unless they are aware of the potential dangers if they aren't already. Oxycodone is not supposed to be harmful to the liver, or at least not that any research has found yet that I'm aware of. So, that is sometimes used if the dr. feels it is appropriate. I would assume that a plain oxycodone pill minus the tylenol would be the best bet if absolutely necessary. I guess it would all depend on what other health problems you have and what parts of your gastrointestinal system are most sensitive. Even the oxycodone while not particularly harmful to your liver can cause constipation and that probably wouldn't be real helpful if your friends liver is weak. It's really tough to find a pain med that is side-effect free... although exedrin has always worked wonders for me, tylenol and aspirin by themselves do nothing, but small doses of caffeine are added to dilates the blood vessels.

I have been making a list of herbal remedies that are safe and effective, and it seems that she may find an answer there. Ultimately, it is up to her doctor to decide what is best suited for your friends case. Try searching the links below and perhaps you may find some info she can discuss with her doctor there.
