Has anyone had their gall bladder out and hiatal hernia repaired at the same time?

I am about to have surgery for removal of my non-functioning gall bladder and my large hiatal hernia. I have had chest pain from my hiatal hernia for over a year and I am wondering if anyone that had this surgery feels better now? Thanks.
You'll notice a big difference. I had an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time, since that's one of the places they make an incision anyway. A hiatal is a much bigger deal, and you should see relief, once the pain of the surgery itself is gone.  (+ info)

I keep hearing that surgery can be complicated and have complications but I have not found a lot of information about that on the web. My hiatal hernia is getting bad enough that it sometimes causes me to regurgitate food I am trying to swallow, but I heard surgery should only be performed when absolutely necessary.

What can I expect with a hiatal hernia during my pregnancy?

I am having the normal issues with pregnancy, morning sickness and so on and so forth. I have a hiatal hernia and I also have a disease called cyclic vomiting syndrome. Does this mean I will have more issues with morning sickness and acid reflux then others with pregnancy? Hiatal hernia symptoms do get worse with pregnancy. Your uterus and later on the baby are pushing everything up in which case aggravates the hernia. I also have a hiatal hernia and am 8 weeks pregnant. I was scheduled to have a surgery to repair it called a nissen fundoplication but that is on hold now due to the pregnancy. I have been sick for a long time so it is hard to tell with me sometimes if it is pregnancy or the classic hiatal symptoms (which include nausea, vomiting, regurgitation, upper gastric pain...all of which I have) According to the doctors, I am experiencing my classic symptoms plus pregnancy nausea. They are hoping that after the first trimester my nausea will ease up. I am taking phenergan suppositories and they make a difference. Also, I am on prilosec, rantidine, and metoclopromide, all of which are approved for pregnancy. They have also put me on bed rest and pelvic rest for the rest of my first trimester because the pain and vomiting is so bad I have been experiencing spotting and passing of blood clots, they think due to the stress being sick puts on my body. Changing your diet will help! Read up on the internet on hiatal hernia diets, keep a food journal, and try to figure out what foods aggravate it. Hernia is simply saying, weakening og the gut. Hiatus Hernia is more painful as it's close 2 the Diaphragm. As it is in the Stomach, it cannot be removed. It's given support generally. Surgry might be laproscopic n wont cause much Discomfort as in Open surgery. U may need some Bed Rest, Restricted Diet, Strict Medication etc.. U can go back 2 normal Life slowly. Be careful 2 not 2 do Heavy workloads 4 many months. Slowly U can start excercises. It all depends upon the severity and age of the patient. Recurrence can be avoided by excercises n proper lifestyle. Trust in God..

Does taking Prilosec for my hiatal hernia cancel the health benefits of taking Cayenne pepper capsules?

I take Prilosec for my hiatal hernia. Prilosec is a strong antacid-type of medication. I want to take Cayenne pepper capsules because of all the health benefits of the herb. Does taking this medication cancel out the Cayenne's benefits? If I take the cayenne without my medication, it burns very bad due to the heat of the cayenne.
A hiatal hernia has very little to do with stomach acid quantities - its a STRUCTUAL abnormality - no herb you can buy will change that structure - though as you know, stomach acid irritates the daylights out of it because your esophagus is in contact with your stomach acid....and makes all of your symptoms worse....which is why the prilosec works for treating hiatal hernia....taking anything to increase stomach acid increases your likelihood of ending up in the hospital for a variety of emergency procedures...

I don't have anything against cayenne, since hot peppers are part of the diet of many parts of the world, however, if taking them with your largest meal of the day doesn't help to reduce disomfort, you can try "cool cayenne" by solaray - which is mixed with marshmallow to help reduce the "heat" and if taking that with food doesn't reduce discomfort, then I would have to say that cayenne simply isn't for you....  (+ info)
