Are there any know cases of one person getting herpes zoster from another?

I am aware that the virus that causes chicken pox is from the same family and is contagious.
----------

"Herpes zoster" generally refers to shingles, the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus which causes chickenpox. A person must first have chickenpox at one point before being able to have shingles, as the virus remains latent in the ganglia of nerve cells until later in life when it flares up again, for whatever reason, be it stress, immunodeficiency, or what have you. I do not believe it to be contagious in the herpes zoster form as the actual virus is deep within the nerves.  (+ info)

what kind of food is recommended for patients suffering from herpes zoster?

the patient has got blister's on the left hand and is suffering from pain. The doctor's prescribed medicine is given to the patient.
----------

Avoid foods rich in arginine - Arginine is required for the herpes virus to replicate. As such, eating foods high in arginine, especially peanuts, chocolate and almonds, is associated with more frequent herpes outbreaks. The same holds true for dietary supplements containing arginine. These often include oral growth-hormone secretagogues and supplements designed to correct erectile dysfunction or enhance sexual potency.

Consume foods rich in the amino acid lysine - Studies indicate that herpes viruses extract lysine from the bloodstream, thinking it is arginine, as both have very similar chemical structures. Once inside, the virus attempts to use lysine to make protein VII (an arginine-rich protein that is at the viral core), but the attempt Ms. Thus, the virus is unable to replicate. As such, lysine acts like an arginine substitute, which fools the virus and prevents it from replicating and causing outbreaks. Foods that contain high levels of lysine include most vegetables, legumes, fish, turkey and chicken.

Avoid alcohol - Alcohol weakens the immune system and is a known trigger for herpes outbreaks.

Reduce intake of refined sugars and aspartame - Anecdotal reports suggest consuming refined sugar increases the frequency of herpes outbreaks. Other reports suggest the same holds true for aspartame-sweetened soft drinks.

Vegan diet-Some individuals report success controlling herpes outbreaks by avoiding the consumption of all animalbased foods. Overall, it certainly makes sense to eat a largely plant-based diet and only eat fish, chicken, turkey and low-fat plain yogurt, if animal foods are to be consumed at all.

Consume broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables daily - Broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and bok choy contain an active ingredient known as the indole-3-carbinol, which has been shown to inhibit replication of herpes viruses. Individuals consuming these foods daily and supplementing with indole-3-carbinol have reported decreased frequency of herpes outbreaks.

i got vaccine of chicken pox me and my brother but still wht to do to prevent infection
----------

Shingles is latent chicken pox virus that has been dormant in the nerve endings until it was activated because of another infection of some kind. Your father may have some other health issue that is not yet diagnosed. Do not touch the shingles or the fluid that they produce either on clothing or on you father. Shingles are extremely painful and even after they heal can continue to hurt. So try not to annoy him or surprise him anything that may aggravate him will cause them to hurt intensely. If both of you have a chicken pox vaccine you will be ok. You may be able to get a shingles vaccine but I think your brother is too young to have it.  (+ info)

What is the difference between shingles (herpes zoster virsus caused by chicken pox) and herpes?

My 18 year old son was recently told that he has herpes although he has never been sexually active. He has a rash on his upper leg that circles his entire upper leg.
----------

He has shingles, which is herpes simplex and it is not caught from one person to another. However, you do need to stay away from anyone who has not had chicken pox or the shot. Shingles is caused from being stressed out and very upset to the point that a nerve comes to the surface and literally burns out which causes the red rash. It is very painful and it circles the area where the nerve goes and then ends. He can get it again if he is subject to being nervous or upset. I have had shingles so many times I now have permanent symptoms in my face, which is numbness and tingling. The sexual herpes is a different type altogether and is caught from one to another and cannot be cured. There are medications for shingles, but they do not do too much for the problem. You just have to wait it out. The symptoms usually last up to four weeks.  (+ info)

after how many days after getting infected by virus of herpes zoster or chicken pox a man fall ill ?

i want to know that after getting a virus injected in your body or getting contaminated, how many days can pass without appearing disease symptoms ? Is it true that once after falling ill by chicken pox , it does not repeat whole life ?
----------

No that is not exactly true. Once you have herpes you can either experience out breaks through out your whole life, or you may only get one out break then your immune system can force the virus into dormancy. There is nothing to that will control when or who will get out breaks, unless you use suppressive therapies.
Herpes can show up as little as over night or it can take months even years to build antibodies and show symptoms.  (+ info)

What is herpes zoster and how does it differ from the childhood disease, chickenpox

I've had it, and trust me, it sucks!

'Shingles'--as it is usually called, consists of sores and a rash that trail along a single nerve. In my case, they went along the middle of my back edging towards the side. That's definitely the major difference between chicken pox and herpes zoster...it's only in one place vs. all over.

The way the doctor explained it to me was this: After you get chickenpox, the virus--instead of just disappearing from your system-- stays dormant. This virus can be triggered by anything that weakens your immune system, like illness, (or in my case, stress) and well, before you know it...Shingles.   (+ info)
