What causes a hiccup that causes the the throat to close up and the person to not be able to breath?
Question What causes a hiccup that causes a closing of epiglottis after the first "hic" and dos not reopen, causing the person to stop brething?
What causes a hiccup in a 40 year old man that causes a closing of epiglottis after the first "hic" and dos not reopen untill the person is taken to the ER and doctrors can open it, causing the person to stop brething, the person dos not have a sore throat befor this happens, and dos not happen with every hiccup? I have asked many doctors and none know what it could be, i never saw anything like this in med school.
----------

A hiccup is a spasm of your diaphragm, for any number of reasons. How long does this apnea last? How old is this person? Does the person have a sore throat with an epiglotitis? Does it happen with every hiccup? I'm assuming the apnea doesn't last any longer than a second or two or you would have taken the person to the ER or at least asked their doctor. And it could be a gag reflex causing the glottis to contract.  (+ info)

How often does your baby hiccup?

I just discovered yesterday that what I am feeling is my baby hiccuping, it is kind of strange feeling. How often do you feel your baby hiccup, and do we know what causes it? Also, do you feel it in different places, or always the same place?
----------

My baby boy used to hiccup multiple times a day and as crazy as it sounds I always felt it in my vagina/butt area. And they say that they should only last a few minutes but his lasted for 15-20 mins! And I always felt it in the same place. He is 15 wks old tomorrow and still always has the hiccups!!  (+ info)

How can you tell the difference between a hiccup and a kick?

I'm 28 wks and still trying to know what is what. It took me a while to relaize what I was feeling was him kicking, but now I wonder what a hiccup feels like. How can I tell the difference?
----------

When I was pregnant, all 3 times, I knew the baby had hiccups when I felt my whole body jerked gently several times. And the first kicks of the baby just felt like little pecks in there. I was 16 when I was pregnant the first time and no one had ever told me that babies kicked in the uterus so when I first felt it, I thought I was feeling its heartbeat!!. But later on......Now THAT'S a different story!! Anyway, congratulations!!  (+ info)

Why does my newborn hiccup alot why hasnt she opened her eyes?

I just had my baby girl August 22,2007 I am a first time mommy so I was wondering if any of you could tell me why does she hiccup often? Shes laying down when it starts and I do make sure and burp her after she gets feed, should i be concerned? Also she hasnt opened her eyes yet, I mean she tries and when they kinda open they move from side to side she focuses them for a little bit but then they start moving around again. She was born a week before her due date, could this be the cause? Sorry for asking dumb question but like I said Im a first time mommy. Thank you for your answers!
----------

My baby hiccuped a lot when he was little too. It no big deal and doesn't bother them like it might bother us. With age, you baby will stop hiccuping as much.
No worries.

Best wishes to you and yours!

Here's a little link for some more info on it.  (+ info)

Is it normal to hiccup and burp at the same time?

Is it normal to have a "hiccup/burp"? It's a hiccup but results in a burp. Not sure what causes it, but my stomach does a bunch of bubbling and then I burp and sometimes hiccup burp. Happens after drinking water and increases with carbonation.

Could it be gas or some bacteria in my intestines? An allergy? Anyone else experience this?
----------

It HAS happened to me but not often. It is just you and your system--something you will have to learn to live with. Unless you want to see a doctor specialist and get his ideas on it. lol You are fine.   (+ info)

What is the best way to get rid of a DAILY single hiccup?

I have it once a hour every day since 7 years. 1 hiccup each time. Please help!
----------

That is just one big burp. So try to let it out slowly if you can, if that's not possible, try to prevent it. Don't eat too fast, and don't drink carbonated drinks.  (+ info)

What was the earliest you felt you baby hiccup?

I am 17 weeks and I was wondering what the earliest in the preg did you feel the baby hiccup. I have 5 kdis so I know what it feels like but since I'm early on it feels very faint but it was a pretty fast and rythmic pulsing. Do you think it's too early? Pretty sure this is pretty early. I felt my other children later on in pregnancy.
----------

I can't remember to be honest but I don't think its far off from when I felt them. I know that I was sure I felt hiccups before I even noticed the "fluttering" movement.
You have five kids, maybe you and your body are just more in tune now, thats why you feel the hiccups at 17 weeks? :)
Congrats to you and lucky number 6  (+ info)
