how can i add hoarseness to my voice? i like the tone of it?

I'm not sure why you would want to do this to yourself, but hoarseness reflects damage done to your vocal cords. This usually happens from screaming or yelling a lot or sometimes from smoking.  (+ info)

How can I tell if I have allergies or a cold? Is there some way to tell the difference?

A friend told me I might be allergic to my Christmas tree, but when I left to visit my family my throat continued to hurt and the hoarseness in my voice remained. My sister has an artificial tree. There is a heaviness in my chest but my cough is dry and I have bad post-nasal drip. I do remember being sick last year and did get put on antibiotics. Is it possible allergies could turn into a cold?
----------

It sounds more like a cold to me, although allergic reactions to a fresh cut tree can occur. (It's not the tree, it's the schmutz on the tree)

One good sign of a cold would be a fever, but also true colds (rhinovirus) tend to stay in the head. the cough and the heavines in your chest point more towards a Flu virus or Bronchitis.

Of the three, cold, flu or bronchitis, only bronchitis will respond to antibiotics as it's usually a bacterial infection and the other two are viruses.

So if this is similar to last year...I'm gonna bet it's bronchitis.

But don't listen to us, go see your doctor.

Hope you feel better soon.  (+ info)

How do vocal nodules form? Do they just sudden appear or do they form over time?

What are the symptoms? Is there pain involved? Can nodules form if someone yells often? Do the symptoms start slowly like hoarseness then goes away and then gets worse over time if vocals are misused?
----------

not sure but my son got them from doing Dalek impressions and has Dalek impressions on his notes as the official cause.

He was told that he must stop his impressions.

At the time his voice was very hoarse and sore. He was asked to rest his voice which was really difficult for him as he has ADHD and makes a lot of noise and also some Tourette's verbal tics, but he managed. His voice is still just a little hoarse and more so if he has been shouting but it is much better than it was.
I hope sharing this has helped you.  (+ info)

Is it ever normal to have a very slight cough longer than couple weeks?

Feels like mucous is in my airway. Every 30 min I have to cough and I have slight hoarseness. It did start with a worse cough of some sort and got better.Going on 3rd week.
----------

Acute Tracheitis - infection of the trachea. Usually starts off strong and resolves becoming milder over a period of 4 weeks. No other acute airway condition has the same history.  (+ info)

Is coke good when you have a hoarse throat?

I think it helps. It makes my throat burn a little and the hoarseness seems to disappear for a while. Unlike water or milk with honey, coke doesn't make me cough. Should I go on drinking coke? Does it really help?
----------

The sugar and the fizz may irritate your throat if it is inflamed, milk is actually the best, the coughing is helping clear out the infection. It might be annoying, but it wil help.  (+ info)

How to get mucous out of your lungs?

Since monday I've been having problems with my respitory system. Today was by far the worst, including a moderate sore throat (was very painful this morning) incredible hoarseness (could barely make a noise) and it was hard to breathe. I was coughing like mad and it was a very mucousy cough.

I am convinced that there was just something in my lungs that needed to get out, in the form of mucous, and my sore throat is a result of the coughing.

What should I take for this?
----------

Smoke a ciggarette, I'm serious, that how firefighters do it. Also try black coffee, or puer tea (hard to find in US though) can find at some naturaul foods stores and online  (+ info)

Will singing and talking over a hoarse voice permanently damage my vocal chords?

I work with my voice, and I absolutely can't get 100% voice rest, so I need to speak and talk. Does that significantly damage the vocal chords, is it temporary/long term damage, or will they be able to heal back with no problems? (I've also just had the flu/cold) I had very serious sounding hoarseness and I voice rested for about 2 days, now my voice is way better, but I can still hear hints of it being hoarse. So again, will singing impair those vocal chords?
----------

I am a professioanl singer and can tell you that this can hurt you over the long term. If your voice hurts then its telling you to give it a rest. The best thing you can do is drink hot herbal teas with honey and lemon and room temp. water. Try not to strain your voice any more than you have to. You can develope things called vocal nodes/nodules that are like hard blisters on the vocal chords. Once they are there they are pretty perminiat and require a risky surgical procedure to remove. This can change your voice for the rest of your life. Google some info on vocal nodes and nodules for your reference. Hope this helps! Get some rest and drink that hot tea!  (+ info)
