Is it normal to have hot flashes after menopause?

I had my ovaries removed in June, and almost two months later I started having hot flashes, and I wake up at night sweating. I thought hot flashes only happen during menopause, not after.
And if this is the reason, how long does it normally last?
----------

Symptoms of menopause may be lessened after going through it but it does not mean that they will permanently be gone. Actually, you're still at risk with symptoms associated with menopause but lifestyle and dietary changes should help you feel less of these symptoms. You should see your doctor and talk to him about what you are feeling.  (+ info)

what is a natural remedy for hot flashes?

My mother is 52 and experiencing hot flashes and night sweats. She says it's so bad that it wakes her up at night and she always seems tired. Any suggestions?
----------

Bring your own portable/ folding fan and take it with you everywhere.
Dressed lightly, avoid turtlenecks, wear sleeveless.
Drink more liquid because you're losing them from sweating.
Rest.

I've talked to several women who took some supplements and didn't do much good for them. It just made them gained weight.

I have a 4" electric fan plugged by my bed, and only goes to my face, and dh can't feel it. Battery hand-held fan for $1 works great, too! Found at Rite-Aid. I also have a very nice folding Asian 99cents fan, just take it out as often as you want.  (+ info)

How do I tell if I'm having hot flashes or just hot from the temperature?

I'm 49 and think I may be having very subtle hot flashes but I also work a very physical job and get hot from the temperature.
----------

If you get very irritable when you get these hot flashes or are feeling more hot than normal, then it could be hot flashes. You are at that age, so I think it's menopause. Go see your ob/gyn. He/she will be able to tell you if you are experiencing signs of menopause, and will probably prescribe you hormone replacement treatments. They may prescribe something else, but it might not even be menopause. But because of your age, I'm thinking it's more than likely menopause. But I'm no doctor so be sure to go see your ob/gyn.  (+ info)

I just turned 40 and am experiencing hot flashes, is it menopause?

I had a partial hysterectomy at the age of 28 for fibroid tumors. I already had 4 kids, and had been suffering for a couple of years. I turned 40 just 2 months ago, and have been having hot flashes for about 6 weeks, is it menopause or something else? We don't have medical insurance, so going to the doctor to run the normal test for menopause is not an option.
----------

It just may.Take 800 or 1,000 IU of Vitamin E a day. See if it works, after a few days.Good luck  (+ info)
