Can a freckle be jagged for skin cancer or is this normal?

I've had a flat freckle on my shoulder for 14 yrs. It is 5 mm, symetrical, one color, but it has jagged edges. Is that normal for a freckle?
----------

Being flat
For 14 years
Symmetrical
One color
Less than 6 mm
are all criteria that point to normality
especially If the jagged edges has been for 14 yrs too.
If the jagged edges are recent changes, a dermatological consultation is recommended.  (+ info)

What is the healing process for freckle laser removal like?

I had freckle laser removal done today and was wondering what the healing is going to be like and how long it is.
----------

it should take about 7-10 days.
3 weeks at most, and until the scab falls off u should avoid getting it wet... or it will take longer to heal.
and when it does fall off, it will be a little red also.  (+ info)

How do i get rid of a freckle off my bell end?

ive had a freckle for about a year now. Im embarresed about and would like to remove it. does anyone know how to?
----------

What's a bell end???

And Frekles are just a part of your skin. You should love them. Its what makes you unique.
If you really dont like them though you can always put makeup on them. I wouldn't suggest cutting them off or anything like that because they just grow back.

I cut one off my leg when I was four because I thought it looked funny, I had a huge nasty scab there for about a month and then the freckel came back, but with a scar around it.

So just put some makeup over it.  (+ info)

Is there any possible way to eleminate a few sunspots/freckles from my otherwise freckle-free face?

Since summer came along, I've been getting a few sunspots/freckle things on my otherwise flawless face, as narcissistic as that sounds, and I wanted to know if there are any ways of removing these imperfections? Please help!!

NOTE: I ALWAYS wear spf 20 makeup when I go outside now, even on overcast days. So I don't think they're being caused by "skin abuse".
----------

I would wear a higher SPF to prevent any more from coming because obviously the 20 isn't working if you're getting more freckles. ^.^

And all freckles fade with time, they won't completely go away but they will fade drastically.  (+ info)

What is this type of red freckle like spots associated with coughing & would it be harmful?

When I accidentally eat something and breathe at the same time... I cough very hard for a couple of minutes, my face feels like alot of pressure & my face feels hot. I went to the restroom & saw red freckle like spots on both sides of my upper cheeks near my nose.
Can someone tell me what are those red freckle like spots & are they harmful?

Thanks
----------

You could be describing "petechiae", but please know that it is impossible to determine exactly what you are experiencing. I am by no means diagnosing or recommending a course of action. That said...

Petechiae are very, very small (pinpoint) red dots cause by broken capillaries at the skin's surface. This can happen during times of strain such as forceful coughing, vomiting, or even sneezing. If this is the case, they are not harmful and will resolve on their own.

Please note...petechiae can be caused by a myriad of other medical conditions and should be examined by a medical provider if they suddenly appear.  (+ info)

Has anyone ever encountered "Melanotic Neuroectodermal Tumor of Infancy" or know of someone who has?

There are very few cases of this cancer even being reported or documented since 1918. Has anyone ever encountered this type of cancer personally or know of someone who has? My son is 21-months-old and is currently undergoing chemo for the disease and reacting well so far to the treatment. Just wondered if there are others who have had experience with it or not. From the stats that we have seen so far from research, not many survive.

How do you know when a mole or a a freckle isn't a mole or a freckle?

How are you suppose to know if a mole or a freckle is just that or in fact signs of melanoma cancer? I wonder because I just found a mole I don't remember ever having, what should I do?
----------

The development of melanoma is related to sun exposure, particularly to sunburns during childhood, and is most common among people with fair skin, blue or green eyes, and red or blond hair.

Risk factors include the following:

Family history of melanoma
Red or blond hair and fair skin
Presence of multiple birthmarks
Development of precancerous lesions
Obvious freckling on the upper back
Three or more blistering sunburns before age 20
Three or more years spent at an outdoor summer job as a teenager
High levels of exposure to strong sunlight
Symptoms
The primary symptom of any skin cancer is usually a mole, sore, lump, or growth on the skin. Any change in appearance of a pigmented skin lesion over time is a warning sign. Also, watch for any bleeding from a skin growth.

The ABCD system may help you remember features that might be a symptom of melanoma:

Asymmetry: One half of the abnormal area is different from the other half.
Borders: The lesion or growth has irregular edges.
Color: Color changes from one area to another, with shades of tan, brown, or black (sometimes white, red, or blue). A mixture of colors may appear within one lesion.
Diameter: The trouble spot is usually (but not always) larger than 6 mm in diameter -- about the size of a pencil eraser.

If in doubt, see your doctor.  (+ info)

Is it normal to have 2 dark hairs growing out of what looks like a large freckle?

I have maybe four or five dark freckles on my shoulder (I have very fair skin if this makes a difference), but one of these freckles is slightly larger and raised (also very slightly), and has two dark hairs growing out of it.

A co-worker of mine recently had skin cancer, and my freckle definitely didn't look anything like that but I just want to make sure it isn't anything I should worry about.
----------

What you have is a mole or hairy nevus. The darker it is, the lesser is the possibility for malignant change. When a mole becomes cancerous, it changes shape, becomes itchy and lighter in colour. It may also become larger.  (+ info)
